England vs Tonga (06/11)

I've watched a lot of Furbank and he can be shakey at fullback let alone flyhalf, maybe we'll get away with him at 10 for Tonga, but if Farrell is out for 10 days and Smith not ready they need to get Ford in for next week asap.
I'd parachute Ford straight in to start tomorrow, tbh, but it's not gonna/can't happen

If Farrell has to isolate then we absolutely need to call him up - I want Smith to start as much as possible this autumn, but I don't want any other option in the EPS to be 2nd choice 10, especially if Smith is carrying an injury
Imagine Furbank playing 60mins vs the Boks

Surely Ford would be called-up next week.

I wasn't advocating Furbank at 10, simply pointing at that he's a likely option for tomorrow if it comes down to it …

This feels a bit like amateur rugby … "our 10s gone down - so and so played there 10yrs ago so he can fill in".

England rugby say otherwise, I believe without trying to get too pollical have gone to the Johnson school of COVID rules.
This seems to be the paragraph they are basing their statement on:

If your LFD test was an assisted test, and the result is positive, you must self-isolate immediately. You could be fined if you do not do this. You may be entitled to a one-off payment of £500 through the NHS Test and Trace Support Payment scheme if you are required to self-isolate.

You should also take a follow-up PCR test as soon as possible and within 2 days of the positive LFD test at the latest.

While waiting for your follow-up PCR test result you and your household members should follow this guidance. If you receive a negative follow-up PCR test result, and this PCR test was taken within 2 days of the positive LFD test, you and your household will be told by NHS Test and Trace that you can stop self-isolating. However, you and your household must continue to self-isolate if:

  • this PCR test result is positive
  • you choose not to take a follow-up PCR test
  • your follow-up PCR test was taken more than 2 days after the positive LFD test result
It is important to book your follow-up PCR test as soon as you can following your positive LFD test result.

This is also part of the asymptomatic testing system, where you should be regularly tested using a LFD, not just a one off after testing positive with a PCR. Honestly, it sounds like very much like the Johnson school of covid rules and it ****** me off that there is still blatant manipulation of the rules for those with influence and ordinary people, especially those who have to work to provide food, are forced to take 10 days off. Yes it sucks for Faz and England's preparations, but in no way does he deserve special treatment because of his situation or who he is.

But the RFU say that it was a positive PCR, not an assisted LFD. Everyone was PCR'd following the positive Lateral Flow by the back room staff member, so this para does not apply. Either way Tonga will object as it risks compromising their bubble and the rest of their games

Surely if Faz tested positive then the whole squad has to isolate as they'd clearly have contact with him?

Tonga should be given the win with England withdrawing because of Covid-19

No, I'm sure with negative tests you don't have to isolate, though I didn't read the current guidance on close contacts. I got pinged 2 weeks ago by test and trace, but didn't have to isolate as I was double vaccinated. If anyone is unvaccinated though, they should be a different story.

I think there's zero chance Tonga will pull out - this game is getting them more money than the rest of the tour combined

If anyone is unvaccinated though, they should be a different story.
Slade right now

But yeah, as far as I'm aware the current guidelines are if you're double vaxxed you just need to take a LFT and if it's negative you don't need to isolate if you come into contact

"Mate listen we are building to the 2023 World Cup, so i'm gonna pick an experienced full back at 10, instead of bringing in the in form 10 from the Prem who has 76 caps"

In all seriounsess, Eddie.... Why pick a 15 at 10 who hardly ever plays there but yet pick a 7 at 8 and a lock at 6 and not use your squad..

Shame Malins was injured really....that would have been the ideal solution.

Looks like Furbank starts at 10 with Atkinson on the bench.

Ah Furbank is a decent enough player. Jones genuinely rates him as a playmaker....so you know hes got talent. Like it or not Jones knows his stuff.

As mentioned above...Smith clearly isnt 100% fit to play a full match hence hes on the bench. Everything will be fine.
