Watching the highlights of the Newcastle v Northampton game and I cant understand why Radwaan is not in the England squad. He really is something special.
From what I've heard that's the problem, he gets in highlight reels but goes missing in between and is a liability in defence, being responsible for conceding as many points as he scores.

Think the consensus is defence. He might score you points, but also concede them. He has to score more than he concedes to justify his position.
Agreed. But he's flipping good with ball in hand.

Don't care what anyone else thinks. Give me Martin, Pearson and CCS in a couple of years and I'll be happy! #orcsonsteroids

Don't know what else Earl has to do to get properly in the frame.

Which at international level would necessitate someone passing the ball to him.

Ain't gonna happen.
(Shame, Radwan and Murley could be a brilliant partnership, should anyone give them the ball in space...)

Is it me or does Will Evans not get mentioned much anymore despite prob having his best season? 26 turnovers in 15 games
I guess the problem is potentially his physicality level compared to the others.

And just staying in one piece. Man is an absolute wonder but I get scared every single jackal

Earl needs to be a better 7 than Curry, Ludlam, Pearson, Curry really.
He's not big enough for test 6 or 8
True, but he does bring something a bit different. He makes his tackles and his turnover stats are pretty good but his pace and ball in hand work is excellent. Maybe more bench than starter, but there's a bit more to him than down and dirty hard work.

Anyone know when the first training squad is announced?
Usually there's one around the time that the playoffs are on, but usually we have an 'A' game the day after the prem final, but World Cup warmups are in August so it's thrown timings all off

Edit: From googling it looks like we announced our first squad, in 2019, on July 4th - that feels quite late to me, I would've thought there'd be a short camp, or two, during June, then expanded training squad announced in July in anticipation of the Warmups in August

Dunno, maybe they've acknowledged giving players a rest.

I'm guessing there is no ba ba bs England A the day after the final this year then? Those are usually quite fun to watch and usually mean there is a wider squad selected a few weeks before hand.

Wales v England Saturday 5 August, Principality Stadium

England v Wales Saturday 12 August, Twickenham

Ireland v England Saturday 19 August, Aviva Stadium

England v Fiji Saturday 26 August, Twickenham

Early July seems reasonable to select an extended training squad for the warm ups. Would this be discussed in here, or in the WC thread?

I'll probably make a new thread once the first training squad is announced so we can keep all RWC chat in one place, similar to how we do it in the 6N

Borthwick saying the players weren't fit enough when he took over and would have changed the game plan [insert Blackadder analogy here] vs Sco had he realised (shouldn't he have realised??). "Staggered at the amount of muscle they were able to put on over the 6N".

Dowson and others "Whatever, mate. They're perfectly fit enough for our club game plan…..".

According to Sanderson the reason Ben Curry was dropped was because he wasn't putting on enough weight during camp

Sounds like an RFU mass obsession, like the one that ****** Tait for a number of years

Explains the Faz obsession at the expense of everyone else tho, the man is wide af

Good news is that Borthwick seems to be working hard with communicating to the clubs what he is wanting at least though

I wonder what his opinion on the fitness of the tigers players was...

Was about to say this, but you beat me to it.

If extra muscle is the way to win at international level and international level is a step up from club level, then surely Tigers players would already be absolutely huge..?

Unless your Alex Mitchell who the Mrs states "looks like he'd snap in a fresh breeze".
