England 2021/22

I have to agree with the above top player but no thanks...

But thats the scenario we are in now with this new rule change.

Surely with Ollie Hartley, Ollie Lawrence , Dan Kelly, Ojomoh we can bring through our own top class England 12....

Ollie Hartley :D.

Looking forward to Wasps future backline of Monye (Porter), Atkinson (Umaga), Hartley (Mathews), Maasi'White (Spink), Mehson (Bacon) , Crossdale (Williams), Simonds (Dawkins), Anderson etc.

The one benefit I am looking forward to of the cap being reduced is Prem Teams relying on the younger english based players, hopefully an additional season will see our squad depth grow across the board.

Anyone else got any younger players that they are hoping will emerge in the new year which England will keep an eye on?

@Geordiefalcon - your lot always seem to have a few tasty operators. When i've watched your boys, Basham/Haydon-Wood, Stevenson, Nordli-Kelemeti all looked tasty.

Dan Cole is someone to keep an eye on young upcoming Tighthead.

From Tigers POV
Ilione is meant to be rated similarly to how Steward was coming up, he needs a run at staying fit though.

Lewis Chessum is meant to a be a good prospect (Ollie Chessum younger brother) taller than his brother I think I heard 6'8 or 6'9 was playing in the championship this season on loan to Nottingham as a 18 year old but picked up a injury.
Sam Edwards is also meant to be another promising scrum half.
But it will be more like 2/3 years till they start to emerge.

I feel that Tigers the players to emegre have done so already, Ilione

Yeah we've got a few at the moment....5 in the new England U20 squad.

Guy Pepper is an out and out 7. Rapid...Hes going to be special.
Louie Johnson at 10....he has the lot, running, playmaking, kicking, game control and about 6ft. England are going to have some serious competition in that 10 spot very soon.
We have another loosehead Dormer in the England U20 squad...following Brantingham (whos a MASSIVE hope) last season...so we'll monitor them very closely.

Lots of hope but theres too many factors out of our control. Injuries, and some players just dont make the grade.

We have two wingers...Matty Ward (England U20) and Morgan Passman (think Ben Cohen style winger) Both ready to come through for the first team and both suffered horrendous knee injuries. Morgan is back playing now but Matty is still recovering. Falcons fans were gutted as they are real talent. Hopefully they can recover fine.

So its hits and misses.
Remember Aaron Hinkley the 7, who was the main talk ....but has barely played for Exeter due to injry

Sam Riley (hooker) is probably the most likely from Quins. He was on the bench at he start of the season but picked up an injury.

He did well for the England U20s last season and is rated as a top prospect.

There's also Hugh Tizard, but you could probably make a case to say he's already on the radar. Hopefully he doesn't go to Saracens (as has been rumoured).

I really like Ollie Chessum every time i see him play. He seems to get better and better. He just looks a horrible type of player to play against. Aggressive, tall and mobile and just in the oppositions face all the time. He's definately one to watch...i bet Eddie is keeping an eye on him,.

Keep hearing alot about Tizard BPM. I keep hearing him best compared to Kruis...ie a real rock in all the key elements of his game...would that be fair?

That Dan Cole lad is a great prospect, great flowing hair as well.

Yh suppose that was the benefit of Tigers rolling out the academy a few years ago. Players such as Dolly (via a no. of routes), Steward, JVP, Potter,Heyes, Martin, Reffell, Porter, Kelly have become regulars and Henderson, Lancaster, Whitcombe, Chessum, Hurd, Agbongbon are still coming along nicely.

I actually remember Illione on the RugbyPass doc and thinking he looks like a very tidy player.

Wasps are probably in the tail end of this period too as well.

Dan Lancaster is Leeds, as well
Potter signed from Melbourne Rebels, and Porter from the Brumbies

Yes. He's definitely more of a 'nuts and bolts' lock who does the basics very well.

He's got a good frame and can really put himself about for a young guy. He's one of those who immediately looked physically ready/'at home' at senior level which is relatively rare for a lock I'd say,

The only thing that might hold him back is that he's not particularly tall (6'4).

Tizzard looks a cracking player. Dino Lamb as well looks a big lad at 18st 10lbs and 6ft 6. Apparently he's been getting bigger too!

Lamb has come on massively in the last 12mths. 18mths ago, I regarded him as no more than squad filler, but he's probably undergone the most improvement of anyone in the Quins squad. He's a big bloke but athletic with it. He doesn't look fast as such but he's very fit and mobile and quick to cover ground. Also developing in to a handy lineout jumper.

So for the 6n...does anyone see anything other than this back line?

9 Youngs
10 Smith
11 May
12 Farrell - You know he'll be there
13 Slade
14 Malins
15 Steward
And for the forwards I foresee…..

1. Marler. But not really fussed which of he and Genge start.

2. LCD. But not really fussed which of he and George start.

3. Sinckler will start. His place ought to be under threat but there's little realistic alternative.

Can't see any lock combination being chosen other than Itoje and Hill. Bench cover will be interesting, hopefully Isiekwe.

Lawes and Curry will presumably flank.

8 might be the most interesting. It's Jones so you can't discount Curry, but hopefully it will be Dombrandt. The kick up the Binny jacksie seems to have had the desired effect so I wouldn't totally rule him out. Doubt Simmonds is in the equation.

And then there's Barbeary. Early days for him as an official back rower, but suspect he'll get some bench time.

Get him to the tower and get him on the rack for a bit ;)

Yeah i agree with most of that. i also agree Sinklers spot should definitely be at risk...but theres not much competition.

Id like to see Stuart move some where and come under a real top scrummaging coach...say Adam Jones stable. i bet he could really push him on. I see a good Tight head in Stuart...it just really needs to be brought out.

TBF - Neal Hatley IS a top scrummaging coach - he's just a terrible defence coach, and an out-of-his-depth head coach.

If he stays on as forwards coach, under JvG as head coach, then Bath's pack should improve - though that improvement will still be limited without a powerful lock to provide some shove.
