DC aiming for the Big money in Europe after the RWC

Cmon guys I think you's have said all yous can on the matter of the BOD tackle, anymore and it'll just go 360.

The NH posters will staunchly stand by their beliefs and the SH posters will be no different. Neither of yous will budge or fully compromise, it seems to me like it'll never get anywhere.

So lets just leave it there 'cos its the right thing to do.:Forum58:

Oh we're bringing up the Umaga incident now are we? It's been a while since this was thrown in our faces. I just want to point out something quickly - It was a spear tackle that took place five years ago. Since then there has probably been hundreds of spear tackles taken place during international and first class matches. Get over it. O'Driscoll would not have changed the result of the Lions getting thrashed 3-0. I know this makes me sound like a prat, but the fact that this is still be brought up is pretty sad. The All Blacks have had a player spear tackled twice this year by Jaque Fourie and de Villiers.

People make claims that it was some kind of pre-planned assassnation, when realistically it was probably two players losing their heads at the wrong time, and something which is often an illegle, but common clearing went wrong and a good player was injured for it. The International Comitee for Fair Play awarded Umaga the Pierre de Coubertin Trophy, for potentially saving the life of Colin Charvis after he was hit in a tackle by Jerry Collins. Ask a majority of people from Ireland what they think of when they think of Tana Umaga, and you'll hear things like "thug" or "dirty player". The British and Irish press really blew the situation out of control, and even now, when there is a reference to it, Umaga is made out to be a thug.

I personally think O'Driscoll really did make this a bigger situation than it was. Yes it's frustrating being injured in a spare tackle, especially in a big test, but it was a total over reaction from both the Lions squad and the British and Irish media. Had the tables been turned, I can't see it being talked about today.

Umaga account -

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ru.../Tana-Umaga-reopens-Brian-ODriscoll-feud.html
(one of the many bias NH sources the Telegraph.)
O'Driscoll also admits to have had a conversation, but says some bits were left out.

If you want blown over the top, watch this-

Favourite quotes are -

"It was the single worst incident I've ever seen on a rugby pitch"
"If O'Drsicoll didn't have the upper body strength in his arms, and his hands, his neck would have been broken"
"The malace of trying to dislocate someone's sholder"

I'm sorry, bit it border lines the pathetic. New Zealand is guilty of bringing up past incidents like 1995 World Cup food poisoning and 2007 forward past, and I admit that is pretty lame as it is, but for this to still be going, and the fact that such an ordanary incident of foul play was balooned to this level, really is pretty sad.

Hang on pal, I didn't bring the Umaga thing up. Dross was being spoken for about 3 pages before I showed up, I just had to vent my feelings after reading the total bullshit that was going down.
Call me a ******* 'sook', but I think the majority of New Zealanders' views on this incident are despicable.

You know what, I don't know if I fit into the "Majority of New Zealanders" category or not, and quite frankly it doesn't matter - people should be judged on what they say, not where they are from.

Anyway, here's my point of view:

1/ The BOD tackle was dangerous, and as Cookie has already said, it doesn't matter if it was intentional or not, the incident should have been dealt with under the regulations at the time, and the appropriate punishment issued.

2/ I would probably have felt all of the same feelings BOD felt AT THE TIME, shock, relief that it wasn't worst, anger, disappointment etc, but to his credit, he came back to play for Ireland and the Lions again.

3/ all that can be positively done as a result of this incident has been done ... the judiciary are stricter on these incidents now aren't they?

4/ None of us can jump in a time machine and right wrongs against us (yes SH teams have been wronged by the NH at times as well) ... I understand that it's upsetting AT THE TIME, and while I wasn't on these forums in 2007, when "that pass" occurred, I was one of those NZers that Cyrmro refers to being very upset ... the difference is, I know it's 2011, not 2007 (or 2005)

... finally, please view this post as another stone (Sam's already provided some) to build the bridge, to get over it

Don't give out to Cyril, Dizzy was the one who brought it up for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Ditto in spades!!

Hey Feic, genuinely not sure if this is directed at my post, or posts in general.

If it was directed at my post specifically, for my part, even though I replied to cyRil's post, (because of the "Most New Zealanders" remark) I only did this to highlight the dangers of judging what has been said, based on where they are from, rather than what they saying.

My intention was not to point the finger at cyRil, but to address my post to ALL posters to this forum in general, regardless of who said what, when, or where they are from.

... I guess to clarify my previous post, we ALL need to get over our previous disappointments ... things that we can do nothing about ... what good can it serve to hang on to this stuff.

Finally some sense spoken ... respect to those.

Can we for the love of god talk about Dan Carter now?

I brought it up because you guys said Carter may not be able to handle the physicality of NH rugby which I took a bit of offense to judging that a number of average SH players have adjusted to the NH game quite well.
So I brought up a couple examples of NH players not handling SH rugby with relevant examples

And this could go on for days so I guess I could call it quits.

MOD Cymro: Play Nice now!

The bit you've lost it is calling somebody "tough" and "Rugged" because they're an Alcoholic. In fact that opens up such a can of worms, I'm not even going near this one.

He gets in drunken street fights. Thats hardcore.

I'm not the hugest fan Of Cowan lately, I dont think he's played well for the AB's for over a year and he also had a pretty poor super14 this year, almost seems like he's held his spot int the AB's because of a few very good games back in 2008 after he took over from Elis who was horrendous! I honestly hope he finds form or gets replaced on this next tour.

But I really do respect how he's been conducting himself over the last couple of years since he got in the news after a drunken night out. He's kept his nose clean and he's also less of a liability on the field. The way he laughed off that Botha head butt was pure class.

I ******* love Dan Carter. People who say 'is he in the 2 best fly-halves in the world?' What a ******* joke. Some geezers talk about Matt Giteau. Sorry boys, He isn't in the same stratosphere as Carter.
Morne Steyn can kick the goals, and I quite like him as a player too but he cannot compare to Dan Carter.
I'm only 21 but Carter is by far and away the best fly-half that I have ever and possibly will ever see play. I've got tickets to see Wales play NZ on November 27, and I can't wait to see us either win, or get ripped to **** by the best rugby player of my generation.

Oops, sorry lol. I was the one that said he's in the top 2 first fives in the world but I only said that because there are some people who prefer someone else as their best first five and those same people would definately have DC as second best. Thats why I said 'hes in the top 2' but if you ask me, he's the best running around at the moment.

Wasn't having a go at you per se pal, it's just no-one in the world is as good as him. Fact. :)

I agree that DC is the best: so whats all this talk about Juan-Martin Hernandez the best player in the world right now?
Is he that good?

Lads if Hook goes to Perpignan that will mean Carter will probably not be going there so where could his destination be. My guess is he will stay in New Zealand

Juan-Martin Hernandez is considered by very few as the best fly half in the world, especially considering he's only recently come back from a disapointing stint in the Sharks in which he was injured all season. He was looking very good in 2008, but has since not done much.
