De Villiers set for 50th Super cap

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
The Stormers have decided to ease Conrad Jantjes back to action on Saturday when they play the Crusaders in the first of their five Super 14 Australasia tour matches in Christchurch.

As a result Jantjes, South Africa's No 1 fullback, will start out on the bench while veteran Percy Montgomery retains his position. Jantjes was sidelined for three matches after sustaining a calf injury.

Peter Grant, who was roped in as a replacement centre against the Lions at Newlands a fortnight ago, will retain that berth and will partner captain Jean de Villiers as the team's midfield pairing.

Saturday's match will be a milestone in De Villiers' Super Rugby career as it will mark his 50th appearance for the Stormers.
Gcobani Bobi will be at rightwing while Willem de Waal has been retained in the pivot position.

Jantjes along with Dylan des Fountain will provide backline cover and since both are fairly versatile players, they'll offer the Stormers plenty of options.

In the pack the 22-year-old Wicus Blaauw who has given a good account of himself at loosehead has deservedly been retained and the experienced JD Moller, who suffered a shoulder injury against the Blues, is on the bench.

AJ Venter will take Andries Bekker's place at lock, with Hilton Lobberts, the retreaded loosie, providing second-row cover.

When Lobberts joins the fray it will be his first Super 14 outing for the Stormers since he left the Bulls last season. Francois Louw is also on the substitutes' bench and he can play at flank and lock.

The Stormers are up against a Crusaders side that got their campaign back on track after a good win over the Waratahs in Sydney last week.

Several Crusaders players were nursing injuries after the Sydney clash and their selectors may have to send out a vastly reshuffled side against the Stormers.

They are still without their inspirational captain Richie McCaw who has returned to training but he'll still be hogging the sideline for another two or three weeks.

Saturday's kick-off is at 8.35am (South African time).

Stormers:

Percy Montgomery; Gcobani Bobo, Jean De Villiers (captain), Peter Grant, Sireli Naqelevuki; Willem De Waal, Ricky Januarie; Luke Watson, Duane Vermeulen, Schalk Burger, AJ Venter, Adriaan Fondse, Brian Mujati, Schalk Brits and Wicus Blaauw.

Replacements: Tiaan Liebenberg, JD Moller, Hilton Lobberts, Francois Louw, Dewaldt Duvenage, Dylan des Fountain, Conrad Jantjes.[/b]

JDV playing his 50th Super Rugby game as an outside center, bit disappointed  , hopefully Grant will provide him with good ball to score some great tries :D

Bit worried about Bobo on the wing but in general the team looks pretty good. Surely it would have just made more sense to play Jantjes on the wing and everyone else in their normal positions. As long as we win, a loss here and its looking a real long shot for the playoffs.

The Crusaders are on their way back to hitting form. Playing Colin Slade at number 10 didn't work and giving Stephen Brett the 10 jersey seems to have turned the corner for the Crusaders.

Last year: Crusaders 22, Stormers 0 at Cape Town
Head to Head: Crusaders 9, Stormers 3

Last five results
2008 Crusaders won 22-0 Cape Town

Match detail
We are waiting for the kick off.

The match is underway.

3.00: The Crusaders start slow and steady working the ball through the phases. They try to run the ball down the line but give a free kick away.

5.00: There is a litle bit of handbags between a couple of players. It ends and the match moves on.

7.00: The Crusaders continue to work the ball through the phases.

10.00: Luke Watson shrugs off four tackles and keep spinning around and eventually breaks through to score the first try of the match and pretty much against the play.

11.00: Willem de Waal slots the conversion.

13.00: Possession is 67% in favour of the Crusaders.

15.00: There is a brief break in play as a Stormers player gets some attention on the ground.

19.00: The Crusaders are doing most of the playing as the Stormers defend.

20.00: Andrew Ellis and Enrico Januarie get a warning as the two keep "annoying" each other. They are told the next time they will be in the bin.

23.00: Some basic errors from both sides is preventing the game from really flowing. Adam Whitelock has a sniping run which results in the Stormers giving a penalty away.

24.00: Stephen Brett takes the resulting kick and slots it.

28.00: Peter Grant puts in a great territorial kick which sets up a line out. The Stormers win the ball. They attack but give away a free kick just 5m out.

32.00: The Crusaders get some good quick ball and this time there are no infringements so Adam Whitelock is able to get the ball on the overlap and he runs in the Crusaders first try.

34.00: Stephen Brett takes the conversion and slices it across the face of the posts.

37.00: The Teams go to the air and its all rough stuff. Knock ons and the like.

38.00: Big injury concern for the Crusaders as Leon MacDonald goes down and stays down. He gets some attention and then gets up - finally.

39.44: The siren goes for half time. The Stormers have the ball and keep it alive. Eventually the Crusaders turn it over and lose it forward. Half time.

The half time score is Crusaders 8 Stormers 7

41.00: The second half is underway as we learn that Andrew Ellis has been replaced by Kahn Fotuali'i.

44.00: Willem de Waal gets a chance to add to the Stormers points - but misses the penalty.

48.00: MacDonald looks to have put his first half injury behind him as he enjoys a sniping run but the Stormers defence is solid.

52.00: The Crusaders are starting to come into the game more. They are still making too many mistakes.

55.00: Colin Slade has a run which opens up the Stormers until the secondary defence comes in and stops him.

56.00: Brad Thorn puts in a threatening chip kick behind the defence but Jantjes beats him to the ball.

58.00: The Stormers get a break down the line and they more threatening than they have done in quite a while after Duane Vermeulen has a run. Eventually though the knock on goes in and the Crusaders clear the ball.

60.00: Some individual brilliance is starting to creep in from the Stormers as Jean De Villiers breaks free an chips up. The ball beats Jantjes to the line though.

65.00: Possession is now at 60% in favour of the Crusaders.

68.00: Still no change in the score from half time.

72.00: The Crusaders win a penalty so Stephen Brett takes the kick but misses. The kicking woes continue for the Crusaders. It's now about 45% overall this season for the Crusaders kicking success.

74.00: The Stormers give away a penalty so Stephen Brett takes a shot at goal and slots it for the first points of the second half.

78.00: The Crusaders slam the ball downfield as they try to keep the Stormers in their own half as the minutes tick away.

79.00: Slade boots the ball downfield again to force the Stormers run 80m if they are to score a try.

The Crusaders set up a the ball on the 25m line and then as the Crusaders hear the siren they boot the ball out.

Full report to follow.

The final score is Crusaders 11 Stormers 7

The try by Watson was pure class, spinning like a top through 4-5 defenders, and yeah that was really the only highlight for the Stormers...

Montgomery showed again that he is now well passed his expiry date, JDV is not an outside center and will hopefully never play there again and he made stupid mistakes like shoulder charging the one 'Saders player and playing the ball on the ground ect..very unlike him! , Schalk Burger must go back and play a bit of Vodacom Cup and learn to tackle again, Mujati and Blaauw needs to learn the basics of scrummaging, Naqelevuki should stop going on picnic walks when he gets the ball and start running with the f*cking thing for **** sakes.

Only three players from the Stormers looked like they wanted play rugby namely Schalk Brits, Duane Vermeulen and Luke Watson.

Don't hope this is the way the Stormers will be playing for the rest of their tour...

One of the worst Super 14 games ever, i think the playoffs have gone <_<

What's happening with Jade Stadium, that half of the ground looks like it's being done for 2 years now. And even with stand out of the action, the Canterbury fans couldn't even fill the rest of the stadium.
