Australia vs England - 3 Tests - June 2016

Surely the case for Farrell at 10 for these is now unanswerable. I don't care whether Manu / Slade / Ben Morgan plays at 12. I just want our best 10 controlling things and that is Farrell by a country mile at the moment. In filthy conditions on Saturday his goal kicking was immaculate and his positional work driving his pack around wasn't far behind.

I still hold Ford's the superior player by some distance and that his form would have to be a great deal worse for me not to want him playing ahead of Farrell.

Still not convinced about Farrell at 10. You've got to avoid thinking short-term, and regardless of current form I don't think Farrell has the range of skills necessary for an international fly half. Even less for an international centre but that's another story.

His goalkicking isn't any better than Ford's at the minute. One game, however high pressure, doesn't negate what has come before and he simply hasn't kicked well this season.

I'm not saying the answer's definitely Ford, but it definitely isn't Farrell, and Ford is in possession so needs a better option than Farrell to be displaced.

Nah I think Faz has shown he is a capable international 10, he has shown a lot more attacking awareness this season than before.

His Goalkicking is better than Fords IMO and his defence certainly is.

Slade I feel has the biggest potential of the 3 but he needs to be getting more game time there before international rugby at 10 is talked about.

I haven't seen much Prem this year for various reasons so aware that I'm running the risk of talking crap while being misinformed, but what else is the internet for.

I've been hearing a lot about Farrell's new improved attack, and got three reasons to be cynical about it

1) This claim rolls around about Faz every so often and has yet to lead to actual observable playmaking

2) When I have caught Sarries games or patches of them, he hasn't really stood out as a playmaker any more than your average competent flyhalf behind a dominant, powerful pack

3) He hasn't done it for England. Different position I know, but given that he's supposed to be a "second playmaker", you'd expect his new and improved playmaking to show itself.

Regards goalkicking, he's a better kicker than Ford I don't disagree but Ford isn't as bad as he's made out to be (any more) and Farrell on current form is pretty poor.

Defence ... no arguments there.

Could you make the argument that ford's defence is actually better given he's not liable to spend 10 minutes/rest of match off the pitch for his tackling technique? How many times does farrell get penalised for high tackles, no arms etc..
He also gets brushed off and misses tackles because of this. His defence is okay but id say it could also be a heck of a lot more solid. He's no jonny wilkinson for sure

Farrell gets a warning for how he tackles pretty much every game for high/late. He's got a reputation and doesn't seem to be doing anything to fix it.

When I counted up their season kicking percentages around the beginning of the season, Ford had a better one than Farrell. I know percentages are not the be all and end all, and I'm thinking Farrell's probably just overtaken Ford, but there's really not much between. In general, I don't believe Farrell is a particularly better goalkicker, if any.

Farrell's attacking skills have come on but he's still comfortably behind Ford as a runner, passer, creator and kicker.

The issue with Ford is consistency and personally, the last 6N convinced me that even if not in great form, he'll turn out decent performances.

A strong rumour that Ford is to leave Bath following his father's departure.

Wonder where he will go?

Who are you expecting to be 1st choice 10 for the series?

I've always been a big fan of Lealiifano at either 10 or 12, I'd make sure he was involved

Can't go past Foley at 10, personally I would like to see Lealiifano at 12 and I think he is the obvious choice both in terms of form and fitness and he fits Cheikas style of having a playmaker/ball player there... Another option albeit a long shot would be Kyle Godwin, don't think he has the experience at the moment but he is someone to keep an eye on for the future. Maybe Folau will make a jump to centre like he has for the Waratahs, we have a few options... so time will tell!

Not really the right thread for this - but that rumour is based on pure speculation and almost certainly untrue (at this stage). Of course, he may well leave this time next year; but from what I'm hearing his personal relationship with dad had already failed; and he'd have to be blind to not know that Mike had lost the dressing room; and a child to not know that a coach who's lost the dressing room is on his way out.

Now that it is confirmed his father is leaving Bath following the problems there, it may explain some of the inconsistent performances by son George.

George is obviously in line for the tour to Australia and to ignore his recent form and the fact that his both his personal and professional lives are in turmoil would be short-sighted.

TBH a trip away from whatever is going on at Bath to Australia might be the best thing for him both personally and professionally.

Whether he stays at Bath I think he'll stay for a season at least. Not least because even if he does follow Dad Mike's gotta find a job elsewhere first.

It might, and I'm sure he'll want to go, but equally there's an argument that what he actually needs is a spell out of the bubble to sort himself out so he can come back firing properly next season. Especially true if these rumours gain a wider foothold. Only those close to the situation and in possession of full facts can call that.

And regardless of what his Dad has or hasn't done, families working together is generally a lousy idea.

Underhill won't tour with the Seniors or Saxons this summer.

Confirmation of what I said on 12/5 in post #497. Eddie Jones wanted to speak to the lad before making it public, but it was obvious from what he said on his SkySports interview that Underhill wasn't going to tour.

Underhill also looked done-in during the 2nd half against Ulster and as Eddie has now said, he needs a good rest.
