Honestly the entire surcharge for tax paying individuals is a complete joke regardless of what job they do. Especially as it's generally calculated as a net benefit in terms cost V collected.

How the **** have they come to the conclusion that HE is the best chance they have

In other news, the Chinese government are using the coronavirus as cover to try to severely curtail the rights of Hong Kong and essentially dismantle the one country 2 systems they agreed to when going Kong was originally transferred.

This was a deal brokered through the UN and their actions show China's intention is to completely dismantle an semblance of independence in Hong Kong.

Yep, and so we can expect the demonstrations to start again and I am sure then that the authorities will crack down on them under the guise that social distancing measures etc.

For anyone who wants a point of comparison and to again show up what a bunch of hypocrites the right wing are, here is Obama attending a republican house question session in an environment filled entirely with his political opponents. He made a point of taking himself out of the echo chamber and directly interacting with his critics. Now look at trump.

The right wing has made a point if distorting their supporters perception of reality to such a degree they no longer know truth from fiction. Trump has never left the echo chamber and lashes out at any sort of opposition but the likes of Steve-o looks at this and sees trump as the better option.

The answer for me is sadly rather simplistic it's not what they stand for it what they don't. Trump doesn't stand for any form of socialism, internationalism, liberalism and take a very introverted look of the outside (of the USA) world. Fostering the idea nationalism and exceptionalism. This done through creating an enemy that doesn't really exist such as Schrödinger's immigrant the one that is both taking your job and costing you money.

The wall is a prime example it's a completely useless vanity project but do you have any worry about Mexican immigrants. Trump's your man whilst the other side won't put up walls they don't think it's an issue. Who cares about the wall he's clearly on your side though.

The 350m on the bus is another example from a UK perspective look past the detail about the false figure and spending it on the NHS. Nobody believed it even Brexit supporters but it conveyed the emotion we spend money on them let's spend it on us. The other people want to give your money to other people that isn't you.

It's emotive of what they don't stand for rather than what they do.

Just wanted to pick up on this as it interests me. Reading Niall Ferguson in the ST's take on it:

The point about Trump is that his appeal is overwhelmingly a matter of style over substance. It is not what he says that a great many white Americans like — it is the way that he says it."

So Bojo is backing Cummings. This is setting up to be one of the big battles and the sheers lying and hypocrisy around it shows Cummings has way more power and influence over the highest up Tories. I could hope for a Tory MP revolt to indicate they still have some semblance of integrity.
