BBC News - Coronation: Met Police had every intention of arresting protesters - Republic leader

If what he's saying is true, this is full on police state and suppression of free speech. Deciding before anything has happened that you are going to arrest people you have already cleared to protest is ridiculous. Yet again the MET looking unfit for purpose and the Tories barreling through another piece of suppressive legislation with no thought. There is simply no justification for this, it has all but made protesting illegal.

Apparently Labour would do sweet FA about it if they go into office.

Bit hard to maintain you did a 'good job' when you have to apologise. Of course it was politically motivated and it was idiotic to arrest them as it just looks worse. Proving it will be harder.
I don't know what's sadder. The fact that this actually happened (using new oppressive laws to curtail protests) or the fact that no one really cares, in fact royalists are pleased about it.

Hard to believe the "regret" when it was discussed in detail in advance; and an active policy.

I wonder if that evidence will ever see the light of day.

Honestly, at this stage with the Tories it wouldn't surprise me if they went, "oh **** we arrested volunteers handing out rape alarms to protect women. Let's just say we had 'intelligence' about rape alarms."

If they were arrested on that fact with intelligence why weren't they charged?

I meant I'm pretty sure intent to cause seriously body harm (which is what deliberately spooking horses would be) is against the law even before the new protest legislation.

I call bullshit just repeating a daily mail headline.

Sounds very much like making up reasons to justify their actions. "Oh those people we arrested who didn't actually break the law? Yeah well we were told they COULD break the law, no you can't see the evidence we had of it, no we aren't actually going to charge them".

Let's say the police have history of making bullshit up to cover themselves when they don't act in a lawful manner.

Edit: Being too arrogant to turn up to testify and his video deposition probably sealed it for the jury.

Probably regretting the grab women by the @#££# comments now. Still some will believe it's a stitch up.

Not only that, the stupid tosser made a huge song and dance publicly about how he was going to go back to the USA, after not originally being in the trial, to challenge his accuser in court. No doubt he thought he could play victim and claim he was denied the chance to testify, and his moronic base would simply believe it. Turns out the judge offered to pause proceedings to give Trump a chance to testify after making those claims. Of course he didn't and didn't expect his bluff to be called. Now he looks like a liar and a coward.

One other good thing to come out of last week's local elections.
Prime sign of a cult of personality, when the "personality" leaves, the cult collapses. UKIP was the Farage party. That twat got Brexit and proceeded to leave the country and ensure his family all had EU passports... I'm just constantly baffled how people are so easily conned by the charlatans like Farage, Mogg, Johnson et al.
