Supposedly it's done and dusted. Kwarteng second shortest serving chancellor with the shortest being someone who died of a heart attack and shorter than Nadhim Zahawi who was a temporary chancellor during the transition and leadership race.

I think the majorly ironic thing here is that she tried to be all Thatcher like (the lady's not for turning) and has done nothing but turn since she took office.

I mean surely she's toast now. She was elected leader on a series of promises which she is going back on. Imagine if a Govt U-turned on their manifesto promises so quickly after winning a GE? Kwarteng and his allies (if he has any) will join the growing backbench rebellion. I think Tory MPs will soon come to the realisation that their best hope of holding onto their seats is to turf her out asap and get Sunak in with the hope that he can get a bounce and have far superior election campaigning skills.

I guess he's got nothing to lose. If it all goes to **** then he can say it was a **** show and nothing to do with him and if he gets lucky then he's the guy that turned it around

Yeah it's the signing of Truss' letter back to Kwateng it's done the round it's not fake but actually follows standard convention apparently.

And her press conference lasted around 8 minutes and she only took 4 questions and then left. Already Tory MPs questioning how bad she handled this and not very reassuring.

Does she get her kicks from contradicting herself or is she just not bright or self-aware enough to see the corollary to what she says? Saying that Kwarteng shared her vision for the economy in a press conference about the fact that she sacked sounds like a cry for help.

Surely her only way out now is to win a general election. She's lost the support of her MPs, she's u-turned on her mandate from the conservative party members within a month after completely abandoning the conservative manifesto from the previous election. She has zero credibility now. If she genuinely wants to stay her only option (not that it will work) is to call an election.

She's caught between a rock and a hard place. Call a GE and she risks suffering a humiliating defeat after an extremely short time in office. If she doesn't call a snap GE then it'll be a matter of time before she's removed by a confidence vote or leadership challenge. I'm not convinced her MPs would accept her leading the party into a snap GE and they will probably want to remove her before she gets a chance to call one. It's going to get very messy next week and I still think she's toast.
