A Political Thread pt. 2

I didnt know he'd made his millions as co-founder of PayPal. Some incredibly plain and uncreative folk just have all the luck I guess.
Yeah what a genius working out at the beginning of the internet explosion that people might need a want a way to securely transfer money with ease....

And he made his millions after getting huge seed money (and safety net) from his father.

Like I say your conflating two separate things being a good investor of money. And being an actual engineer who does the real work. Musk is the former not the latter.

But I guess we live a capitalist society so let's **** off to the guy with money rather than the workers.

Musk is that project manager that takes credit for everyone else's hard work and gets all the plaudits

He's almost universally disliked in the tech/engineering communities, yet adored by large swathes of the public (/larger swathes of the right wing)

Ragey sums it up nicely:
He is first and foremost a businessman and salesman.

Also even Musk's PayPal link isn't what people make it out to be - much like Tesla/Space X people say he invented the lot
He wasn't the brains behind any of it - he was, by all accounts, a poor coder. He founded x.com and paid others to do the tech side, that then merged into the company that then became PayPal
He became CEO but was removed not long after for doing a poor job - he retained enough shares to make a boatload of cash when eBay then bought PayPal

Yup I do mainly program management activities these days (although my job is mainly bringing the bridge between software and program management). I say routinely my job is all about enabling software engineers and giving them the resources they need to do their jobs well. We've all been on that program with the shitty PM who takes all the glory but none of the **** and is all about self promotion. You usually know it because when a program goes to **** (usually due to unrealistic timescales that engineers have said for years were unrealistic) they start blaming the team.

Yup you get few advocates with Musk usually its the one guy who thinks Crypto is a good idea.
Also Yup I've seen no evidence over the years that he was a good engineer or any of the things his companies do actually are his own ideas or he's led them down a specific past. It's the difference between a good nose and actual ingenuity.

Zuckerberg, Woz, Gates and Bezos (Bezos more early days physical graft than actual engineering). Even than Woz was the only true engineer of the group and his star was eclipsed by the other guy who took all the credit in Jobs.

I remember way back when I was Uni in 2005 we had a business module. In it the lecturer talked about bullshitters and grafters (he used a diffrent word for grafters but I can't remember it). In it every great company needs both using Jobs/Woz, Hewlett/Packard even Allen/Gates as examples usually you get one guy who does the real work and another who's great at selling it even if they are technical themselves. Usually its bulshitter that gets all the credit.

And no matter how many Billions he's worth he's still a massive twat! IMO.

The Tory MP caught watching porn in the House of Commons is claiming he opened the file by mistake. No rules were broken. Nobody told him it was porn. This is what happens when you have a leader with no moral authority who tries to lie his way out of everything.
Tbf its not unusual for MPs to be sent that kind of **** over email as files or link by weirdoes looking for a laugh.

Not saying that is what happened but considering the technological illiteracy of lots of them it's a pretty reasonable explanation

It seems unlikely to me that government email servers wouldn't be blocking malicious attachments and that in the case of a link, government wifi wouldn't be restricting access to porn sites.

Even if the above isn't the case, the witnesses will be able to confirm whether his actions were consistent with him having been Dickrolled (i.e. sudden panic and repeated tapping of back buttons) or someone intentionally watching pr0n.

If he received such an email, he will be able to exonerate himself easily enough by showing it to the committee reviewing the incident.

Given the volume of email that I'd imagine that MPs receive, I would have thought that checking his inbox is a job for a junior member of his clerical staff rather than the MP themselves.

Good one. You almost had me thinking you were being serious with that explanation.

You've got a lot of confidence in our notoriously **** state tech security lol

I'm not saying with any assuredness that this is what happened, just that it can (and was my immediate assumption the second I heard the story). We will see in due course I am sure anyway

Sort of. Given the bad press that the government have already received, I'm confident that they won't admit to either not having adequate systems in place or an MP subverting them.

And I wasn't saying that you did, I was saying that if he uses this as his defence, it would be easy for him to prove his innocence. By extension, I was pointing out that this is highly unlikely to be his defence, because if it was, he could have had his name cleared and moved on with life by now - there would have been no reason to allow the situation to progress this far.

My guess is he was scrolling through twitter and it was on the timeline
I can't imagine he's sat there on Pornhub in the HoC....then again nothing would really surprise me with the Tories

Turns out unsurprisingly he did it deliberately.

Haha.

But he said he was searching for tractors and watching videos of them and accidentally went to a different website.

I was thinking of how he accessed it. Would have assumed he would have been on government building WiFi which blocks such naughty stuff, but clearly he was using his own mobile data

Can someone please work out what tractor website has such a similar name?

I'm highly dubious of his claim bit that was only the first time and the second time he admits to. However it doesn't really matter on the first time it's not like he accidentally opened porn and immediate shut it. According to his statement he carried on watching it....

Take away lesson from this, just don't Google "a good, strong ploughing" at work...

And then watch the video for 13 minutes

With the sound on

And then repeat the innocent error
(I've no idea how long he watched, or if his sound was on)

In other news - Tories, at least this one's thinking with his heart, not his cock, but...
Well...
Not really news, did you see the date?

Can someone please work out what tractor website has such a similar name?
