3rd TEST: South Africa v Lions

Double post, but had to say that this "second string" Lions side seems to be a little more, I don't know how to put it exactly, but scrambling and desperate. I love it! The South Africans have lost their composure and cohesiveness tonight, due more to that Lions pressure.

Some of these guys almost seem to be saying, "You should've had us there in the first two!"

Have a very bad feeling about this one.
Just don't like the look of the team at all. I can't understand how Shane Williams is in there? He's been given most opportunities of all the lions playes to find his (once world class) form, and unfortunately hasn't! It's not that i don't like him, or don't rate him. It's just that he has not impressed. At all. But he is not a team, i know, and he will not be the cause of a loss, but the balance is all over the place - The injuries prevent a lot, but surely they could have done better?[/b]

Munch munch chomp chomp.... :)

Had to turn off sky there.....they are the worst broadcaster...basically saying that after that performance we should have won the series!!! Idiots..
Finishing line was - we beat SA on points difference over the series...so irritating.
It's ok to say we were beaten in the series by a better team!

Absolute class. It seems sometimes we forget a 'second string' Lions side is still composed mainly of the best of the Home Nations. I was delighted to see some the the most maligned players show us what they're really made of. Flutey, Monye and Shane Williams were superb. Sadly, Vickery couldn't keep it up, but he had a brave go at the Beast. Great win. I'm very proud of them.

All in all, Lions thoroughly deserved the win! They played better in every aspect of the game, and looked by far the hungrier team.

On the South African side, i pretty much expected us to lose with this team. A second team with more than half of the players playing their first game in more than 2 months against a Lions side wanting to finish off positively was always going to end this way.

Francois Steyn showed why he is LEAGUES above crap like Kirchner. Hopefully you all made notice of some of his uselessness...

Heinrich Brussouw was also really good today! Other than that, a shitty SA performance to say the least.

On anothother note, Mike Phillips is such a c*nt and a **** stirrer. On and off the field, he is such a dick. I wanted Francois Steyn and Pierre Spies to punch him in the face so badly. Good to see we out and out won the scuffles at least!

But yeah, i'm glad the Lions pulled it off in the end!

If they were the better team I'd be the first to say so. I just don't believe it's true. Up until the spate of absolutely vital injuries last week, the Lions were cruising. The scrums were going forward, the centres were majestic, and SA couldn't really get any penetration. Come on, this isn't sour grapes, it's realism. That being said, it's worth listening to Paul O'Connell, speaking behind me. "The team that wins is the best one." A great sportsman.

Fantastic game, great to watch, and good playing from Williams/Flutey who've been so-so on the tour up until now

Poor sportsmanship from many of the Springboks though, like whoever it was slamming M. Williams into the ground/all the players starting on M.Philips/Heaslip

Did M.Philips get moved to centre when Ellis came on? Did flutey go off? If so i would've thought it'd make more sense to bring hook on for flutey, and keep Philips at SH
Either way, we still got the job done :p
Cracking end to the tour :D

Bowe was pretty good, but ... over the last two tests SA played 50 mins against a Lions midfield made up of wingers and half backs. Did they make a single break?

I couldn't spot this exactly, but POC was going much higher in the lineouts after Hayes came on, and With Wynn Jones as well the Lions lineout shaded it in the end. I assume Hayes was lifting POC - and he also did better than Knickers in the scrum - another poor selection.

The left wing move ending up with Ickle cross-chipping was the sweetest thing - pity nobody was following up. Fair dues to him for razor sharpness, although it's still hilarious to see him sidestep in to a lock and get dumped on his arse. And delighted Monye got his try - he also had a couple of important tackles. Some really nice touches out wide, and Kearney had an amazing first 30 mins.

Overall SA are not a great side. Too much bully, not enough quality. With a bit more organisation in the front row, Lions could have won the series 3-0. They have a specialist scrum coach + Gatland is a former hooker. Very poor.

After watching this game... I reckon NZ at 5/4 are a great bet to win the tri nations now B)

Honestly thought we well deserved that and that we probably threw the series away. Perhaps if that second test wasn't at altitude things may have been a little different... maybe. Also think that bar the first test Ruan Pienaar will want to forget this competition quite quickly, doubly surprised by how dirty the Boks were too.

Actually I don't think they were particularly dirty. Just agressive. The Williams thing was the only thing that I didn't like but in fairness he wasn't leyting the ball go. and on the Phillips point....he's a scrumhalf, passing and shitstirring is all they can do.

But that's just a side point. So happy to see a win today and especially to see big performances from players who'd been playing below the standard we know they can play.

I don't think anyone should be eating anny humble pie on the Williams thing because he was playing poorly and that's what everyone always said and everyone always said they'd love him to find form so i was delighted to see him finish those two tries (though I thought man of the match should have gone elsewhere).

Delighted to see Monye and Vickery putting their Ghosts of Lions Past to rest with Monye playing a fantastic match and Vickery getting to do a "NANANANANA" at the Beast.

Heaslip who's had a so-so tour was excellent, Bowe showing that in the absence of BOD there's now plenty of cover at 13 in Ireland. Happy for Flutey too who had his best match of the tour and the same for Worsley.

Oh, and can't forget to mention M Williams who got his chance and was class as always. But then 7 was never a number we'd worried about.

And of course....no doubt about it....John Hayes player of the tour. No doubt about it.

And excellent interview with O'Connell afterwards....the bloody Sky guy trying his hardest to stir some **** and get O'Connell to say that the Lions were ripped-off over the series but he was having none of it. And he was right too. Class answer to every question.

So Congrats to South Africa. Great win over the series. Congrats to the Lions for getting their first test win in yonks and congrats to Rugby for being awesome!!!!!

Really looking foreard to the Tri-Nations now. Think it'll come down to

1) If the Aussies can find a good balance in the backrow and make the right choices in the back three and
2) Whether PDV gets a new prescription for his mental problems.

I'm not even going to comment on this.

Yeah dude, you know what you can go do?

I wish someone locks you up in a room with Pierre Spies. I would LOVE that.

Well deserved win by the Lions, Well deserved South African win for the series.

Why not?

Is it because of the awesomeness of your midfield and the sparkling phases you put together? You are GUARANTEED to win the 3N! :p

Enjoyed all the tests but really enjoyed the victory today.

Full credit to SA for winning the series :bravo:

Good for the Lions that they won the 3rd test and they took the Boks to the wire in the first 2 but credit must go to the Boks for notching up the first two wins.

Apart from Burger I have no problems with the wayany of the Boks or the Lions played. Full on test rugby played with aggression.... just how I like it.
