3rd TEST: South Africa v Lions

'Bout time too :yahoo:

Looked sharp all game, apart from the moment when he decided he was 6'4'' and ran into the SA back row :fool:

Take heart Jericho, Steve-o and Bokke (when he inevitably shows up). Some very respectful comments from Jericho and Steve-o in general, although poor old Jericho, having to defend the quality of his team when he'd mainly shown up to congratulate the BIL. Just remember though that some of these british guys aren't trash talking you. Guys like Vambo, bristol-iain, Olyy. Hats off to these guys.

Most of all, congratulations from myself to the British & Irish Lions. Some players there that obviously can step up to the mark, bad tour start or not. Some players are made to peak for the test matches and good on them. They can go home proud of themselves in general.

Looks criticizing ;) ;) ;) ;)

Actually, I've been meaning to say. One of my favourite things about the Tour has been learning about South African Rugby and being ale to see the talent week in week out. Seeing that Fourie really is under-rated and how good F. Steyn could end up being (thpugh I think his decision making is really shoddy). South africa seems to have a millions decent scrumhalves yet seems a bit short on depth in one or two positions. I also vey much enjoyed the facts about each city...can't remember which one of the guys gave those but they were a funny read in a way.

But anyway. This was the first tour that I've been a major rugby fan for (only got really big into rugby when I was about 16 so that was rught after the last tour). And it was a great learning experience and I'm looking forward to the next one already!

It's got me really intererested in SH rugby now, seeing as I had decent knowledge of Aussie rugby already here's a nice tick so I'll feel comfortable cheering yizzers on in the tri-nations!

Unfortunately I missed pretty much the whole tour, only watched today's game. We played brilliantly, some really good try's, was a great watch. From what I've heard we were close to winning the first two tests but slipped up, today was a great indication of just how good our team is. Although I was looking forward to the beast giving some crunching tackles, just for entertainment purposes of course :p

Wise words you say !Dan

You slipped two previous wins and crashed World Champions this time

Watched the todays game without a great sence of involvement to be honest but enjoyed it none the less. What I'd say is with 10 changes to SA we should have expected to win. Happy to have a 2-1, it's good for the pride.

Congrats SA for a great series win and being great hosts in general

No. It's because many of you seem to forget that we fielded a second team today[/b]
What happened to being gracious losers? Funny how we havent seen any of that at all.

Aside from 2, 4, 8, 11 and 15 that wasnt too far off your best team. And a lot of them are close calls. 9,10, 12 were the S14 combination. Zane was the Bulls (and form) ful back. Pack was harldy impacted at al.

Look at the lions players missing. BOD Roberts Byrne Jones Jenkins Ferris. Add this to the weird selection of Worsley (did alright) over Croft, the likes of Flannery O'Leary and Shanklin who didnt even get to travel and the mish mash of our own backline and your point is moot.

The only Irish players who I thought was good is... O'Gara (who turned out to be ****) and O'Driscoll who is "okay"[/b]
Looking forward to the Autumn.

Was a bit of a cruise really. Same as the second test before we lost half the team ;). Enjoyed it.

You forgot to mention Jacque Fourie,M.Steyn,Spies,Kankowski,Botha and Pietersen, and those are only the ones on top of my mind. The only Irish players who I thought was good is... O'Gara (who turned out to be ****) and O'Driscoll who is "okay"

We'll see come autumn.[/b]
Only Irish players who I thought were good are :p Pedantic FTW! Also Rob Jesus Kearney and Tommy "The Flow" Bowe

I kept on calling Kearny Brian and loving "The Flow"......not in a gay way you realise

Just finished watching the replay on TV. Well done to the Lions, I think they only really have themselves to blame for losing the series, because they certainly had the ability to win it.

I just want to say I've been impressed with Mike Phillips the whole series. He plays like a halfback should and he also has the physical side to him. I thought he probably got through the most defensive work out of anyone and this match.

I thought South Africa were just absolutely terrible in this game. Well don e to the Lions, they really wanted this win. It was a pretty good series, really. The Lions easily could have taken it out. I think the Lions were done a diservice by not playing many warm up games against strong opposition. You could see the team growing as the series went on. It's sad we have to wait 4 years for the next series. I love these events. They are right up there with the world cup for me.

S.William's second try was pure attacking flair. And Ndungane's try should've been given!

Actually I don't think they were particularly dirty. Just agressive. The Williams thing was the only thing that I didn't like but in fairness he wasn't leyting the ball go. and on the Phillips point....he's a scrumhalf, passing and shitstirring is all they can do.

But that's just a side point. So happy to see a win today and especially to see big performances from players who'd been playing below the standard we know they can play.

I don't think anyone should be eating anny humble pie on the Williams thing because he was playing poorly and that's what everyone always said and everyone always said they'd love him to find form so i was delighted to see him finish those two tries (though I thought man of the match should have gone elsewhere).

Delighted to see Monye and Vickery putting their Ghosts of Lions Past to rest with Monye playing a fantastic match and Vickery getting to do a "NANANANANA" at the Beast.

Heaslip who's had a so-so tour was excellent, Bowe showing that in the absence of BOD there's now plenty of cover at 13 in Ireland. Happy for Flutey too who had his best match of the tour and the same for Worsley.

Oh, and can't forget to mention M Williams who got his chance and was class as always. But then 7 was never a number we'd worried about.

And of course....no doubt about it....John Hayes player of the tour. No doubt about it.

And excellent interview with O'Connell afterwards....the bloody Sky guy trying his hardest to stir some **** and get O'Connell to say that the Lions were ripped-off over the series but he was having none of it. And he was right too. Class answer to every question.

So Congrats to South Africa. Great win over the series. Congrats to the Lions for getting their first test win in yonks and congrats to Rugby for being awesome!!!!!

Really looking foreard to the Tri-Nations now. Think it'll come down to

1) If the Aussies can find a good balance in the backrow and make the right choices in the back three and
2) Whether PDV gets a new prescription for his mental problems.[/b]
I agree with some of what you say, mate, but I didn't see Vickery lay any ghosts. Both he and Sheridan were dire in the scrums, Vickery whenever the ref wasn't standing right over the Beast, and Sheridan pretty much for most of the game. John Hayes should have started.

i watched the 2nd and 3rd tests of this series... let me just say the Lions did really well.

also.. Rob Kearney is a star...

Funny thing is Shane's two tries will remain famous in history, as he is an awesome player and all. Will somebody recall he was actually shite during his tour? I'm not saying that to take anything away from the lions though. with all the marvellous players they had on tour it would have been a shame if they didn't win at least a game.
With their clear victory over SA and France's over NZ, the northern hemisphere leaves the south without shame. So thanks to them... in a way ;)

Springboks were less fired up than a geriatric on sunday evening. Lions looked like they really wanted to win, well done. SA never showed a burning desire to win.

Overall, I've been thoroughly disappointed with the Springbok team in this series. In my honest opinion, they only played about 4 minutes of their potentially brilliant rugby, that being in the build up to Smit's try in Durban and a few flashes in Pretoria. A complete lack of accuracy in the execution of even the most basic set pieces stood out like a sore thumb after the efficiency Bok supporters are used to.
I'm sorry that the Lions played against a Springbok team that underperformed. Many times during the series I found myself totally frustrated by the tactics used on and off the field by the Boks and their Coach (mostly the coach).

Well done to the Lions, they performed above my expectations and, through grit and desire, deserved to win the third test. But with respect I was left expecting a lot more from the Springboks, who I know are capable of much better rugby and who should have closed out the series 3 0.

Thanks to the Lions and their supporters for the rugby and the entertainment.
