[2022 Six Nations] France vs England (19/03/22)

Wasn't Jones meant to be going but they couldn't find a suitable replacement after 2019 WC?

I get that Jones has had ups but the downs are now getting beyond a joke, literally England are consistently less than the sum of their parts whilst I don't think players intentionally don't try and are emotionless, it seems to take being down to 14 at HQ, that was the first time in recent memory I can recall a fight, determination and want for everything, to me somewhere along the line that comes down to the coaching be it loosing the changing room alienating players who knows, something isn't right somewhere.

The average England fan

Will England fans even be happy if they win?
No. I want to lose so Jones goes. A win would mean France buckle to pressure and we scrape by with Smith scoring all our points (probably for him to be dropped when Farrell is back).

The only thing that would make me happy is when Jones starts getting our players playing better than they do at their clubs, not worse which he hasn't done for a long time and actually select a proper 15 with a proper bench.

(If) when England lose this evening what chances are there realistically that Jones will be removed.
What kind of contract does he have ?

The morning of a test match should be one where all sinews are strained by both sets of supporters hoping for victory for their team, and a day to adorn the colours with pride. And although my England shirt is being worn and my support for the lads absolute, there is a weird juxtaposition where I would rather we lose tonight. It is a ridiculous feeling to have, but Jones has managed to numb emotions and disconnect the passion that all us England supporters have for our team. The passion from the stands of HQ last week was a direct response between players and fans who care about our national team deeply. Irelands quality won the day eventually, however it shows how much we care about our team, but equally encapsulated how Eddie Jones is not fit to be in charge of it.

His muddled thinking, high player and coach turnover, lack of respect for the six nations, casual introduction and casting aside of playing talent, lack of identity, and holier than though attitude is successfully disconnecting the fans. Even though he talks he seems so remote, and his multiple failures since 2019 has made things harder. Lancaster made errors in 2015 at the World Cup, but one thing he recognised and did so successfully was that the team needs the fans as much as the fans need the team. Eddie is simply driving deeper divisions, and to be fair I am sure I am not alone in having no faith in him.

with him we stand no chance at the next six nations, summer tour, autumn internationals or World Cup. So where is the damage by removing him after this tournament? a new coach is needed who can connect coaches, players and fans, whilst providing a direction for the team, and one that rewards talent and ability whilst, developing a core squad with settled combinations. One thing we know for certain is that Eddie Jones is not that man.

Sometimes more can be gained in defeat than in victory.

While I am firmly in the EJ out camp I don't see him going.

I think if we had lost to Wales and finished 5th only beating Italy then that may have been enough for the RFU to pull the trigger.
If we finish 5th on points difference or BPs then possibly, but I think it won't be enough.
Personally I think we'll finish 4th as I don't think Scotland will get anything out of Ireland who know they could still win the ***le. We would need to lose by 25 points more than Scotland lose to Ireland if we are on the same points to finish 5th and I can't see it happening.

However, the stats don't lie this England team is going backwards and EJ has all but admitted he's playing players he doesn't want to because his first choice is injured. He has no plan outside of Farrell and Tuilagi and he's basically hoping they will be fit come the world cup.

I noticed a headline on the BBC website this week where Jones was claiming it's easy for people to have a pop at him because he's Australian. Classic way of trying to divert attention away from the team and his own performance as HC. Pretty poor and desperate to bring nationality into it tbh.

Shame on any of you wanting us to lose. When you wish for that, you simply stop being a supporter of the team IMO. You can't just pick and choose when you show your support. This isn't football.

Eddie's lost my loyalty, but I still don't see an obvious replacement. I also feel like the problems are now so obvious that even a win will not do much to paper over the cracks.

I'm not looking forward to the game, but come kick off I will be supporting the team.

It's hard to see Jones being dispensed with but if the RFU do grow some, a new coach would be inheriting a turnaround job with a team in a mess less than 18 months out from a RWC. We'd need an experienced coach who could make a quick impact, get the team organised and sort out the previous coach's carnage. The supreme irony is that the man probably best equipped for this kind of short term, turnaround brief is…….

Contract extension because England did well. Can understand the decision at the time.
This. After going close at he RWC, I think the contract extension was a fair call. There wasn't (and still isn't) an obvious candidate to replace him and why not give a guy who got you to the final another crack?

2020 wasn't great but not bad enough to warrant changing anything. 2021 was dreadful, but I assume the RFU thought 2022 would be better. Now where in a situation where it quite clearly hasn't been, it's the right time to have a proper review of the situation.

To be fair, the turnaround is tactical rather than personnel IMO. We have plenty of players who are more than good enough, but they're being undermined by weird selections and terrible tactics.

A new coaching team (including some top level appointments in attack and defence coaching rather than rugby league no-marks) would probably be excited to work with the raw material that's available.

Disagree
Fans loyalty runs in tandem with Results (Shock I know)

Lancaster first 3 or so years was met with general positivity (Although I never liked him) we didn't really lose badly but we never won anything.
Come RWC and it was a embarrassment and those fans that was so close to the team all turned quick enough.

The whole the team needs the fans and the fans need the team is imo romanticised nonsense.
