A Political Thread pt. 2

I was tempted to dump some of my investments and a month ago. Ultimately though it's essentially my retirement fund and not for trying to guess the markets, so I'll just sit on it until it eventually recovers. My friend got lucky and sold some right at the height of the market.

Yeah it's all about time in the market as opposed to timing the market. It's retirees who don't have the luxury of riding it out I feel sorry for.

I have little sympathy for shareholders. They're a large part of why everything so screwed up.

I noticed that Brits have different opinions about Thatcher? (Although I didn't talk to the people from UK a lot tbh)
Mainly the UK equivalents of democrats (labour) and republicans (Tories)

Vance repeatedly interrupted during remarks at Congressional City Conference

Mary Lupien, a city council member from Rochester, New York, shouts as Vice President JD Vance speaks at the Congressional Cities Conference of the National League of Cities on Monday in Washington, DC.

Vice President JD Vance was repeatedly interrupted during his remarks today at the Congressional City Conference when was claiming there's a relationship between immigration and steeper housing prices.

"You go to the United Kingdom, you go across the world, and you see a very consistent relationship between a massive increase in immigration and a massive increase in housing prices, and we have to be honest about that," Vance said at the conference hosted by the National League of Cities.

Per attendees at the event, one person shouting was talking about corporations, while another attendee was saying, "We disagree."

Vance acknowledged the room for disagreement and encouraged dialogue with the public and the administration. Then he said,"Maybe don't shout it in front of 2,000 people. I can't even hear what you're saying, sir."

In response to further shouting from the audience, Vance said: "Well, I see, I see, I see, I see one of our nice representatives out here wants to, actually, I guess, continue to flood the country with illegal immigrants."

"Please consider, consider our administration one with an open door," Vance later added. "Please come to us when you have issues, even if you don't like what we're doing on the policy. … You guys have got to be able to come and talk to us, so keep doing a great job."

The democrats are more like the Tories. America doesn't have an equivalent to Labour
there was a lot of explanation around this for his first term, a simplistic view would be the UK are just left and right of centre, NZ and Aus the two main parties are both left, one more left than the other and the US are both right, one just miles further right

but then i saw another description that showed theres lot more too it and its actually left and right bit also up and down because the states have different issues

Regime change demanded by the US always ends well.
So Ukraine gives up lots of land and gets no security guarantee, the USA snaps up mineral rights and Europe are left footing the bill for defence...

Europe needs to flat up say the USA will have no role in this unless they start behaving like adults again. We need to get our militaries in order and provide that guarantee, sideline the USA the same way they sidelined us. However, Europe should not simply go in as peacekeepers, they should go in to enforce a better deal in which Russia GTFO of Ukraine. All sanctions against Russia should remain, or even be accelerated until those lands are returned. In particular we need to clamp down on European nations still buying Russian oil. I hear Canada may suddenly have some spare to go...
