Yeah yeah whatever. Just man up and admit you were off the mark by unnecessarily making reference to a World XV.

He's right to reference a world XV.

If they aren't near it, then they are less "absolutely class" and more "very good".

Unless the standard England aspire to now is to be the best of the rest of us useless NH lot?

Heres the Ireland team that multiple news sites are reporting.

15. Rob Kearney
14. Andrew Trimble
13. Robbie Henshaw
12. Stuart McCloskey
11. Keith Earls
10. Johnny Sexton
9. Conor Murray
1. Jack McGrath
2. Rory Best (captain)
3. Mike Ross
4. Donnacha Ryan
5. Devin Toner
6. CJ Stander
7. Josh van der Flier
8. Jamie Heaslip

Aye, seen that on the 42.

Drop Kearney for O'Halloran, Trimble for Gilroy/Healy and Ryan for Dillane and he's more got the team I'd like to see.

I know everyone rates him, but even so I still feel people underrate Mr Berry. Being so young, especially for a lock, and not a New Zealander, he's still crafting his reputation. Players have to sustain their international place for several years before they start being recognised as world-class, so Berry's age counts against him in that respect. But more important than his reputation are his performances, and IMO, when he's fit, his performances are consistently class, which puts him in that bracket of the top players of the moment.

On the other hand, Lawes and Attwood cycle through patches of form. What they offer is obvious, and they will put in MOTM performances here and there, but they don't offer the consistent quality that Berry does. So I don't see them in the same bracket as Berry. Given how many options we have, I would be keen to look for more, i.e. Itoje sooner rather than later. I'm also keen to see more of Kruis on the international level.

Excuse my ignorance but who is Mr. Berry?

Surely Matt Symons is worthy of consideration as a future England lock?

Where's that wonderful portrait of him when you need it?

Joe Launchbury is Mr Berry

Thanks for that.

The crucial part of j'nuh's post then is the phrase 'when he's fit', which he is struggling to achieve.
The same with Lawes, who regularly suffers with stingers apparently, and his leg couldn't get any more strapping on it trying to support his hamstring, if he tried.

IMO Eddie needs a couple of injury replacements in his main squad to cover Beaumont and Launchbury (if his hamstring is bad).

Yeah, I'm surprised he hasn't called someone in to replace Beaumont.
Launchbury is obviously struggling with injury so another lock in for Josh would make sense, as he gets to keep Launch in there for when he's fit, but has another option for when he isn't. Clifford can take Josh's spot as 2nd choice 8 (as Eddie say he thinks Clifford's future is there).
Hell, bring in Slate cause then he can cover 6 at a push as well.

Itoje and Marler named in XV to face Ireland

I'm can't wait till game day.... Now if someone has a spare ticket ;)

I'd be worried bringing O'Halloran and Healy in, they're great attacking players but have awful defensive struggles in the pro 12. It goes for the entire Connacht team tbh, they're a quality 10 away from being able to attack with the best of the best in Europe but that's all a bit useless when teams like Zebre can throw 30 odd points on you and teams like Leinster can nil you.

Itoje picked still worried about flankers but overall I don't think I can complain too much.

No list of replacements on the BBC website anyone know what's going on there?

Not hugely afraid of that side, Schmidt will look to take advantage of that 10-12 axis and get Murray and the back row to bully Ben Youngs. What's Itoje like in the scrum? We haven't got the best scrummaging locks available so if that's not his area of expertise, and the scrum rarely is for young locks, it levels the playing field even further!

If we can perform at the breakdown like we did against Wales I can see that being an area of the game that could reward us too!

Bully Youngs?
You'd be better off bullying Ford. You could send a strong breeze at him and he's going to get knocked backwards.

Itoje is very strong in the scrum considering he doesn't look the biggest lock around.

Our flankers will be crap, as they have been the last two games, but Itoje will help massively. Launch has looked very out of sorts, so to add Itoje, who is as powerful/athletic as they come and good at the breakdown, will help the lack of dominant hits/clearouts from Haskell and Robshaw.
Would still expect Ireland to be on top, mind.
I'm hoping Haskell pulls out in the warm up and Clifford can start.

Any word on who our two reserves are? Or do we not name them cause we're at home?

Irelands issue could be scrum. Ross is usually poor for few games when returning. Marler will fancy it here.

Bullying Ford is expected, every team will do it to him for the entirety of his career, Youngs can be got to very effectively as well though, Ireland have beaten England in the past purely through putting their half backs and backrow through hell, I think it's what will be attempted here to. The fact that Farrell will likely have McCloskey and Henshaw to deal with helps too.

I am looking at this very one sidedly of course, the fact that Ireland are going to have to use their backs effectively to win this really plays into England's hands. We won't have the pack required to be able to kick the leather off the ball so it'll have to be a clinical performance, last one of those was vs SA in 2014...
