[2015 RWC] Warm Up Match: France vs England (22/08/2015)

I thought even after Cips came on, Ford made a number of bad decisions that both Brown and Cips bailed him out of. Cips had to cut back and change the angle of attack at least twice to somewhere more productive.

For me I'd like to see:

9. Care
10. Farrell
11. Watson
12. Cipriani
13. Joseph
14. Nowell
15. Brown

Isn't the next match in two weeks and we have to announce our squad by then? Just saying vs Ireland we need to start first team more or less.
Ah, is it?
Well.....****.

If Lancaster has any balls he'll take Cips and Slade and drop Goode and 36. He won't though.

Agree we should be looking to start our first choice, but after tonight, do we know our first choice?
Marler vs Mako
Ford vs Farrell
Youngs vs Care
Haskell vs Wood
Watson vs Nowell
Binny vs Morgan

Surely 10. Cips, 12. Farrell?

While Danny's defence has come on ridiculously well in the last year or so, I don't know about him at 12 in an international - couple that with the fact he's never played 12 at pro level, let alone international...

Ford was very poor tonight...

What are you on about, His kicking from hand was utterly ****e...

In the second half Ford gained a lot of yards out of hand that eased a lot of pressure on a disintegrating forward pack, and under huge pressure away from home he slotted from the sideline.
I think the kids alright, there isn't a 10 in the world who shines when his forward pack plays as poorly as England did for the first 60-minutes.
Farrell would look even worse, he is NOT the answer.
The French pack was up for it but England were woeful with their front row the worst offenders.

I think Mako, Ford to start vs Ire forwards won't have rub of green a bad game and I think we start Fiji with Farrell. Care I think but those two are flip a coin. After that I'm not sure Watson/Now ell has to also include May I don't think we have a clue who our two best wingers are.

Ford kicked well all game though. His touch finding and goal kicking was excellent.
Cipriani was awesome. Brown was wonderful.
Nowell looked strong and positive.
Joseph is a class act.
Twelvetrees came on fresh and was strong and solid.
Ford was left bereft of any go forward ball until the last ten minutes when the French thought they already had the game won and foolishly lifted their foot off the throat.
England came roaring back on the scoreboard thanks to Brown's creativity and the finishing of Cipriano and Joseph who were both superb.
France were flattered by an appalling display from the English pack for 60 minutes.
The lineout and the scrum were deeply concerning.
Tom Youngs had a truly horrendous game at hooker. That poor bloke will be having nightmares after that.
Marler may need psychiatric counselling. He was bullied for way too long in a public place.
The ruck/breakdown is another major area of concern for England. They were pushed off the ball by a faster French loose forward trio.
Thats the least inspirational game I've seen from Robshaw in an England shirt, and he wasn't the poorest performing pommie forward by a longshot.
Marler was brutalised from the start until he was dragged.

Pretty much agree apart from the 2 in bold. 12T was terrible as per, dragged 2 passes to no one and seemed invisible apart from that. Ford didn't kicjpk very well at the start I though (missed first 25 so can someone confirm)

Olyy from memory not sure George had enough lineouts to really know? But either way, lineout stability is hardly helping us separate contenders at the moment and as you say, George did himself credit in the loose

Ford didn't have the best of games, but that's really inconsequential. We know he can play well. We were destroyed upfront and we don't have enough time to put it right. What have the coaches/players actually been doing?

Oh and also am glad that attwood played well.

I also think we know our wings. Watson and Nowell. May can do one.

The biggest problem tonight was in the forwards. We got marmalised in the scrum, lineout and breakdown. We've got to fix that first. The subs made a difference. Thought T Youngs was poor, B Vuni also. Seldom seen an England pack bullied so much.

Ford was very poor, missed touch from penalty, straight out from the kickoff, missed high ball just in the first few minutes.

Knowell, Brown, JJ were OK. Cips made a big difference.

However all this talk about Ford a little unfair we completely lost the up front battle today and think the reason we are not really sure how to fix it. That was pretty much our starting forward pack and you can't think of an individual player who could make a decisive difference (even those who are not available).

Watson vs Nowell.

Surely you mean May vs Watson. Nowell is our best winger, best defender and plays well no matter what. Hasn't had a bad game in an England shirt that I remember (admittedly low no of caps).

Dan Carter would have really struggled behind the Pommie pack today and that bloke can play a bit.
Guys, if your forwards play badly you cannot expect your backs to salvage the game for you. Games are essentially won and lost up front. Even more so in RWC's. In the second half Fords kicking was excellent. He didn't have anyone running off him until Cipriano came on, and thank goodness for Nowell running strong and the Mercurial Mike Brown making something out of nothing on several occasions, Brown looks in fine form at just the right time. Joseph was a handful all game as well but the forwards did NOT contribute to the efforts made by the backs and thats the story of the game.

he was poor, the kick down the touch line your were sqeualing about was completely the wrong option, Farrell at least would have made an impact on Defence.

Aside from the decision to go for a cross field kick rather than a long one his errors in the first 20 mins were in execution.

Attacking Ford for a performance by his forwards that goes down as the worst performance, the most gutless performance of towering ineptitude by a Pommie pack for almost as long as I can remember is churlish at best.
There isn't a number 10 on the planet that would have looked good behind the pommie pack tonight. Tom Youngs in particular and Joe Marler were truly awful.
Try to remember, one off bad games happen.
The Rugby World Cup will be played in ENGLAND.
This will account for a real boost in ALL of Englands performances and this occasion will be seen as a momentary blip on the path to illumination.
Move over Youngs and Marler and bring in the Kiwi Hartley and Corbs.

he made poor decisions all through the game, on the wrap around in the first half he shovelled crap to Nowell. in the second half, the kick down the the rigth touch line was a very poor decisions. He was very indecisisve in attack (looked better when Attwood started distributing to him...

At the risk of the baby and bath water springing to mind unless we are massively on the front foot ford has little impact.
