Nice to see some changes after a pretty poor game against Uruguay. Disappointing to see Dolesau on the bench given the stormer he had last week, though. He should be starting in place of Maguire.

I don't know how Mackenzie was MOM last game either.

EDIT: Apparently Wooldridge has signed for a club in France and will be leaving after the ARC. Good for him.

Which club has Wooldridge signed for? BCRN is saying it is to a club near the Swiss border.

I only saw half of the last game, probably the parts where Canada was playing decently, so I have slightly different views of the match than you guys.

Good news for Wooldridge( Pyschic's jaw might drop LOL), my guess is he has signed for Bourg-en-Bresse (Union Sportive Bressane) I've actually had lunch in that town about 15 years ago!! since it's one of the clubs to the Swiss border if BCRN is on target the rest are...Top 14 - Oyonnax. Pro D2 - Bourg en Bresse (Most likely), Lyon and Bourgoin aren't right beside the French/Swiss border but are fairly close they could be possibles. There are also a few Federale One clubs in that region as well if we are talking lower Tier.

With Wooldridge overseas it's possibly some scary news for our front five heading into the Moari match. Tieddemann will be touch and go to recover for that one, and Buydens should be available but the ITM Cup could run right up till the previous week before that game. I haven't heard about Dolezel but I beleive he was out for a while. If we don't have any of those guys it might be the worst front five we've ever fielded and I don't even think that's hyperbole to say that. At best right now it looks something like

1. Buydens
2. Barkwill
3. Tieddemann (possibly Dolezel if healthy)
4. H. McQueen
5. Baille(or Flagg)

16. Govorchin
17. Illnicki
18. Sears-Duru or March
19. Flagg(or Baille)

Missing the questionables it could be something like

1. March
2. Barkwill
3. Illnicki
4. McQueen
5. Baille

16. Govorchin
17. Sears-Duru
18. ?(I honestly have no idea, are Scott Franklin or Frank Walsh still active LMFAO!!)
19. Morrison

I don't think our squad for the Maori match will be that bad................I hope. Hopefully Wooldridge signed for a pro D2 team and note the tier below it.

Yeah I think I've just posted the worst case perhaps I'm being morbid today LOL, my guess is Buydens will be available as will one of Dolezel and Tieddemann. might be a weak front five but hopefully not as dire as my worst case scenario.

Agreed on Wooldridge, Federale 1 isn't really that much better than CDI level rugby(probably by a fraction in some teams, below in others). D2 would get him in a decent set up and environment playing regularly vs. some up and comers.

L'Estrange again...

Why!!!???? Tolkin is like Ric Sugitt used to be here with keeping underperformers in the lineup!!!

I think the rest of that side looks fairly good though, this one could go either way.

Wooldridge and Kleeberger will handle the captaincy for Canada in some co captaincy type thing.

Jaguars lineup has been announced, 11 changes to the starting lineup, looks like they will be resting players for the Canada game.

... I don't want to hijack the thread, but I saw some comments earlier, regarding the Maori All Blacks, AIG, etc

... from what I've been reading, AIG wanted the All Blacks to play in North America this year, but were talked into the Maori All Blacks instead.

I was reading that they are trying to get the All Blacks to play a game against USA next year, in San Francisco, on their way to the NH for the November Internationals (like the one in Tokyo this year) - I'll see if I can find the article again.

The Maori All Blacks games will at least give both Canada and the USA a chance to play them ... and it might get me off my chuff, and get to go and see one of these games in a place I've never been too :) ... probably won't happen though be cause of work :(

... anyway, it seems that the almighty Dollar will once again determine who the ABs play, not whats best for the teams concerned.

EDIT: This wasn't the one I was reading, but here's an article on the possible AB's game in America - http://tvnz.co.nz/all-blacks/eye-up-matches-in-san-francisco-5520566

Little Guy,

What's infuriating is that he started every single match in the PNC, the RWCQs and the Ireland test in addition to this tournament. This is supposed to be a development tournament, so why is a guy that started every single match this summer (and sucked mightily) starting the first two matches of this tournament at 10 also? I didn't mind his inclusion in the squad, but he should be getting match time at 12, not 10. Just ridiculous.

Shaggy,

There has been some talk about the All Blacks coming over but another article I read said they were unlikely to play the Eagles because of the likely lopsided nature of such a match. My alternative to this would be to have a USA All Star XV, combining the current Eagle squad with guys with American connections. Such a squad would particularly help the US at key positions of weakness, that also happen to be among the most important on the pitch. Here's what my proposed USA All Star XV would look like:

1 Alex Corbisiero (born in NY)
2 Chris Biller
3 Callum Black (Ulster, born in DC)
4 Scott LaValla
5 Samu Manoa
6 Todd Clever
7 John Quill
8 Jerome Kaino (born in American Samoa)
9 Kahn Fotuali'i (played club rugby in America for 2 years, a more tenuous connection but he would help in a position of need)
10 Ronan O'Gara (born in San Diego)
11 Luke Hume
12 Marcel Brache (Stormers/WP, born in LA)
13 Chris Wyles
14 Z Ngwenya
15 Blaine Scully

So basically a new set of props (huge position of weakness for the Eagles), halfbacks (another huge weakness) plus a world class number 8 and an upgrade at center. With the prospect of playing against the All Blacks, a huge deal for any rugby player, you'd probably also get some players signing up with American/American Samoan parents or grandparents that previously were unknown. And as it would be a non-cap match, players wouldn't have to worry about their eligibility for other countries. This would have the added benefit for American rugby that it would familiarize uncapped US-eligible pros with the Eagles and Eagle management without sacrificing their pro contracts which often depend on eligibility for other countries. Then, if they decide to represent the US later, in the 2015 RWC for example, the transition will be easier.

I agree with the L'Estrange frustration. I don't give two sh*&$ what NYAC's Bruce McLane says about Toby clearly being the best 10 between L'Estrange, Siddall, and D'Acheval, how the hell will anyone know if shots aren't given? Don't give me this "you know who the best players and combinations are in practice", some rise and up and play above their weight in games. USA went winless this summer with an unbelievably uncreative flyhalf, don't understand why someone else can't get a damn shot in a non test match. I used to be for Tolkin, and while I still believe he is the best domestic coach option, his Winged Foot stubbornness with Toby is frustrating. Toby is a good center, so why not try him at 12 or 13, and Siddall at 10 for once? And then maybe the game plan can be more expansive by dumping Andrew 'Crash Ball' Suniula.

I've always been a huge proponent of the Kiwi model of having a 2nd 5/8, or an inside center who is creative. 12 also isn't a bad place to start for an eventual 10. It's where Dan Carter started his career after all.

As for Bruce McLane, if L'Estrange is clearly the best 10, why is he being used in a DEVELOPMENT tournament? The whole point of this tournament is to develop young guys who need match time at a near-international level and to try combinations or guys in different positions. It's about as logical as including a 35 year old scrumhalf to carry the bags in the summer of 2012, at the beginning of a RWC cycle.

There is a better domestic option than Tolkin and it's Billups, someone well respected in the American rugby community. The change should have been made after August.

Geeze not any better from us tonight, didn't mind our first 15 minutes but than fell into sloppy play, poor discipline etc. There are clearly a couple of positions in this ARC roster that were just left too weak, Lock, Fly Half and Prop to a lesser degree all too undermanned. Team does not seem to be "gelling" at all either, I saw a completely missed pass about twenty minutes in and it seems these guys aren't on the same page. Halfway through this ARC and I'd only say, Wooldridge, Barkwill, Dolesau and Fitzpatrick have at all impressed me, with one or two others holding their own. Does Crowley have a half time speech in the drawer?

usausa, I think Du Toit missed a penalty about 25 minutes in I think he's 1 from 2.

Edit: Much improved ARC year for the States, taking this much more seriously than last year, they are showing commitment and energy seems like there is a true fight for November tour positions, unlike Canada where lot's of the players look less urgent, is the "free pass" into the non test window Moari match effecting the output and workrate?

Not a very good first half by Canada; we need more from Du Toit and Maguire. If I was Crowley, I'd be bringing on Dolesau and McQueen soon.

Credit to the Yanks, though. They've been a lot sharper through forty.

Barkwill, seriously? His line out throwing is awful, constantly overthrows his jumper. Kind of sad that he is our best option at hooker. Du Toit is showing promise, but he is clearly not ready for this level. Scholz is playing well, but is Trainor playing tonight?

Yeah his lineout throwing tonight has been dreadful but he's been much more effective in the loose than Govorchin was in the last game. I think Carpenter may get the start at Hooker in November with Barkwill backing him up, Ray seems to play better off the bench anyway.

Trainor has been MIA it seems in both games, I guess this injury recovery is going to take a while to shake off the rust. Kleebs has been a shadow of his former self so far as well. And what about Baille's stupid yellow card what a cheap and petty sin binning to take.

This roster is simply too weak at Lock especially, only two real specialists both have looked uninspiring so far, think Flagg might be on soon. I hope to god we aren't going into November the 3rd with the Lock combo we had tonight starting.

That I agree with.
