2012 IRB Junior World Championship

Pocock trains harder than any player in this country, and will probably be Wallabies captain within 2 years. So I think a more realistic scenario would be Gill playing #6. Maybe Gill/Pocock are the next Smith/Waugh combo ;)
Let's hope that combo works better than Holah/McCaw. For some reason, two specialist fetchersdon't often work.

A more deadly combo would be Gill coming off the bench for impact turnovers late. But then again, if Pocock's captain, you wouldn;t want him off the field. I mean, you hardly ever saw McCaw subbed off save for when he's uinjured or when the ABs are giving a hiding.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a star halfback, lock, and centre (Conrad Smith-like) to come up in this tournament.

For the All Blacks? Surely we have enough halfbacks and centres. Perhaps we could do with a lock, though.
I'd probably prefer a star hooker and second-five.

Clearly regarding his fetching, don't take a snippet out of a sentence and take it out of context. I meant in relation to perhaps a winger who is exceptionally fast but horrible at defense, kicking, breaking tackles etc. but yet still considering him the best winger and able to surpass established players who are more well rounded.

Wales U20 won 119-7 from what I have heard.
Five tries for Prydie; Luke Morgan, Thomas Pascoe, Matthew Morgan, and Ross Jones with two each I believe.

Do anyone feel the tournaments structure is stupid? One loss and your out. How do they draw and rank these teams as there is no indication which team is better than the other due to the fact that everytime a new set of players will be playing.Other thing is we are reluctant to send over our best players because you have to make sure you do not send those with the English or Australian great great great great grandma's in their heritage

It's in South Africa, doesn't involve a massive amount of sending players over ;)

Lock defintely.

We have centres - but conrad and nonu are getting older, kahui is not as young and oft injured as is toeava; and sonny bill will probably be off in NASCAR or in the show 'The GC' at any point. Apart from Fruean, there is no one with X-factor.

Our midfield depth is good for a pinch - but not many are world class save for Nonu, Smith, Kahui, and SBW. Maybe Fruean. But no one really to write home about after that. Yes Bateman is serviceable, not sold on Crotty, or any of the Blues midfielders.

Halfbacks, you can never be too short of.

But yeah, we need some locks to raise their hands for consideration and to be put in the watchlist as the cupboard looks bare after Whitelock and Boric. Promising talent in Romano and Retalick, but you really need to start cultivating early.

Can you guys stop winning it please otherwise we will have to get dirty and ask for birth certificates and proof of age. Having a trophy with just NZ on it is boring..

With lock, I reckon by the time these fellas come through we'll already be pretty well set. Retallick looks like a real keeper. Whitelock is good. Hopefully Boric is fit. Then Eaton, Donnelly, Bekhuis, Romano, Hoeata battling it out for the last spot. We still have young guys like Broadhurst, Moli and Luatua who could be very good. Another couple wouldn't hurt, though. You might get your wish, though. Although he isn't isn't this team (broken hand) Michael Fatialofa is a huge, powerful lock who has been playing for Southland. Nick Ross is and athletic lock who has also done some good work in rowing circles. I don't know much about Joe Latta and Christian Lloyd but Latta has had some time for Wellington and Lloyd has been pretty close (started a preseason game I think?). I think it is probably a strength of this team.

Halfback is pretty much the same, IMHO. Perenara, Smith and Kerr-Barlow coming through. Older fellows like Ellis, Mathewson, Leonard and (at this stage) Weepu. Pulu and Frae Wilson also look to be reasonable backups. As long as these halfbacks aren't utter rubbish, I'm happy. I reckon if we could ask a magic genie for a star player, I think halfback would be close to last on the list. Though, I believe Bryn Hall has had some offers from league so he could be decent.

At centre, I agree. I thought you meant outside centre (which I just call centre) as opposed to the midfield (as I call it) :) I definitely think we need a good second-five coming through the ranks. Ngatai could be good but we've seen little of him so far. Treeby seems like a bit of a ball hog to me. Could be good if he improves his distribution. Apart from that the options are average at best. We're all right at outside centre for a bit, though. Conrad Smith might not be around too much longer but if Kahui can keep fit, we can bring Fruean in the squad (let's just hope he improves his defense and distribution). Ellison is a decent backup option. I've heard good things about Ope Peleseuma (our second five). I think he was one of the top performers against Aussie Schools.

I'd most like to see a world class hooker. With Andrew Hore, Keven Mealamu and Corey Flynn fast becoming old men I think we could be in trouble in a few years. Hika Elliot doesn't seem to be favoured by the selectors and Dane Coles is ill-disciplined and seems a bit small. Funnell, Brayden Mitchell and Liam Coltman could all be good but we haven't seen enough of them. Hopefully next year they start to get some game time. I've heard Rhys Marshall could be good at hooker. We also have Gafatasi Sua who I think is currently injured, unfortunately.

@Cave Dweller: Well we have left out TJ Perenara and Sam Cane to give you guys a chance. Looks like you're taking it, unlike England.

ACtually, you hit the nail on the head.
Hooker has to be top priority. Those other positions are luxury at this point. If for some reason Mealamu and Hore decided to retire tomorrow, we might just see this AB team never go for lineouts/and the opposing teams just forcing us to throw lineouts.
So worrying.
Wish we could trade players. ;) SAF have a stable of good ones, and I'm sure we could poach some big QBs from the states that don't get a chance at the NFL, CFL, or the Arena league.

Being the gentlemen we are, we insist on matching you omission for omission. We just can't help it.

Kyle Godwin (WA) came on for the Force the other day.

Good old Aquinas boy.

We might be decent this year as they demoted that excuse of a coach. Taking it. Do not think so. You guys made sure Goosen won't be there (Thank you Highlanders). When we had the players to do well the guy in charge wasted it. The guy who owned the fisheries on the corner who coached the 0/16 C team in his spare time would look like a world class coach compared to him. I think he is demoted to the assistant manager but there is two of them so he will probably be the baggage master with a assistants pay. I just hope he stays far away from tactics and team selection as possible.

Who will be NZ ten this year? They seem to come of a assembly line maybe we should amend our policies like Australia and lure them with a carrot infront their a noses, a nice check and fool them into signing a 2 year contract which tie them up long enough to make eligible.

What do you want to do with a 30 year fart who can't even take a tackle with body armor and a helmet? That is if he will pass the drugs test

Cory Allen is likely to be his replacement from what I have heard / gathered.

Cory Allen as in the one who plays for Cardiff and another one of the huge Welsh backs? He's fairly impressive against u17's teams that haven't played together before guess it's a different story against international u20 teams.

Had to double take and check which you were replying to - Du Plessis etc are class.

Anywho, you'd be surprised at some QBs (I will concede that a majority of them are crybaby whiners i.e. Tom Brady) but a lot actually have moxie and nous (Tim Tebow) to play rugby.

ON TOPIC:Who are the top players to look out for from each conutry for this tourny?

Luke McGrath for Ireland looks a classy player in a position we're week in. Will still be eligible next year.

Are there any likely zac guildfords or Julian saveas this year. As in high scoring future international wings
