Warm Up Match 5: Maori All Blacks v British & Irish Lions (Rotorua)

Some of the Lions players will become better players if they choose to play a few seasons of Super Rugby.

What worries me for the Lions is around 75% territory and possesion has only resulted in 12 points, it has been just enough so far in this match but it will not be not enough for next week.

Well they built their national side around "Give it to Shane" and "Get the tee on for Leigh", Shane Williams hasn't been called up (yet) so that's all they've got in the playbook unfortunately

Unfortunately very true!

Itoje playing really well, bringing his England form in today and putting his hand up firmly for a test space.

It's a real shame he's going to have to step aside for the secret weapon, Cory Hill, next week.

North and Watson have to come off their wing more if possible, because it doesn't seem like they'll get a chance otherwise. For me the only chance to impress is with their kicking and catching...

Weird how Sexton's kicking ability tends to go down a level when he has a penalty advantage.

That was the wettest warning I've ever seen
"I'm just saying if we come down here and you give away another penalty I CAN give a yellow card"

Grow a pair!

Probably intimidated by the moustache, tbf

That was a pathetic attempt at authority from the ref there.

I'm maybe leaving the option of giving a yellow if there are more negative play in this area. Just say, no more, yellow car next time.

Same thing happens with England
Borthwick is a good set piece coach but general forwards play is lacking

The breakdown is just as key as the set pieces, if not more. Hope England see more of George Smith in future.

Te'o has been quiet in this game. The weather is real shame as its further causing problems testing out the attacking plays. This is a game where to play for territory and put pressure on the set pieces.

I know it's wet, but I can't remember the last time the ball was passed beyond the forwards or sexton to kick...struggling to judge the backs due to lack of ball.

It worked for Haskell and Andy Goode ..........
Some will do well and some won't. Taking on SH coaches is one thing (e.g. Eddie Jones) but why? to learn how to play SH style?

Playing Super experience will improve their game. The best of the Top 14 and the best of the Heineken Cup against the Highlanders, the best of Otago. Super will help the Lions players is all Im saying.
