Wales v South Africa - 23/11/2024 (17.40)

Gatland confirmed there is no release clause in his contract that kicks in after the 6N or any clause at all.

You couldn't make this **** up.

That, along with the fact he seems defiant now and saying he's not resigning this is a big problem. I'd still like to see Gatland moved upstairs. ****, as this point I'd be over the moon if we sacked Nigel Walker and replaced him with Gats. I think Gats' ego would get in the way, though.

Maybe it's all bluster on Gatlands part and he's just playing some mind games with the WRU. You'd think 50 odd thousand turning up to watch another 50 plus point loss will surely force their hand, though. Break clause or no break clause.

You Welsh lot seriously need to stop 1 upping us. How are you in a bigger mess replacing your HC than us? WRU have ****** up big time.

To be fair it's been coming for a while. Getting to this point was clearly avoidable but the general malaise of Welsh rugby less so.

So it has already been confirmed that PSdT won't be playing. In addition to that Ox Nche has been spared as he isn't 100%. Updated SA team:

South Africa: 15 Aphelele Fassi, 14 Cheslin Kolbe, 13 Jesse Kriel, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Kurt-Lee Arendse, 10 Jordan Hendrikse, 9 Jaden Hendrikse, 8 Jasper Wiese, 7 Elrigh Louw, 6 Siya Kolisi (c), 5 Franco Mostert, 4 Jean Kleyn, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Johan Grobbelaar, 1 Thomas du Toit
Replacements: 16 Malcolm Marx, 17 Gerhard Steenekamp, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 Eben Etzebeth, 20 RG Snyman, 21 Cameron Hanekom, 22 Cobus Reinach, 23 Handre Pollard

Its crazy to hear that we will have fielded a total of 52 different players this year but I've had an argument with my brother in law that we aren't as deep in quality everywhere. To some extent utility players make up for it but to some degree its more a case of we have fielded a few pedestrian players and/or though our 4th choice is not a huge drop off from the 1st its more a case of our 1st choice not being a worldie.

Gats had the WRU by the short hairs after they fired Pivac. He leveraged the England offer to get a boatload of cash.

Even if the WRU fires him, do they have the $$ to go get a respected coach? I doubt it. It's Gats or some no name with minimal international experience.

The short answer to this is yes of course they do. Whilst it will be expensive the WRU have the financial ability to release him and pay someone at that level. The harder question is who might want to take the job given the obvious systemic issues at most levels.

The RFU and England are doing ok with coaches with no international experience............................

Money talks. If we're offering Gatland money (£600k pa) you'll have people queuing up.

Bar your Farrells and what not.

I actually think if we have to pay out Gatlands contract then it's a big ask that we then have to pay out someone else's contract so I think we'll be looking for people out of contract but this is all guesswork.
