Wales V France

All he's going to do is get Bastareaud angry...and they won't like him when he's angry
hulk_from_the_movie.jpg

But seriously, why? What's he going to gain by saying Bast is too unfit to play running rugby =/[/b]
Gatland said this as well:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
"We've got to make sure that we don't give [Bastareaud] a lot of room," he told the BBC Sport Wales programme, in an interview to be transmitted on Friday (from 1855 GMT on BBC TWO Wales).

"He's big and very physical so you have to close space down as much as possible and deny him the opportunity to create one-on-one mismatches.

"It's a tough ask for James Hook in the backs but I'm sure he'll be up for the task."[/b]

There's the problem - Basta is such a threat that defences will be tempted to leave holes out wide just to stop him. For their second try in the Ireland match France skipped him at 12 and Jauzion strolled over at 13.

Surprised to see Roberts is almost as heavy as him.

France to win by 3point or more -> Evens. â'¬50 worth a gamble.

Paddy Power please pay me :D[/b]
I got stupid odds on Bast to score the first try in the scotland match,
Words can't describe how happy i was when they decided to stop trying to smash the ball through and flung it out wide to him :p
Turned £2 into £63

The welsh will win tonight for the fallowing reasons:

<strike>1. After a big win over Ireland the french will be overconfident and will try to play "rugby champagne" the problem for them is that the Welsh will do the same as it is their only weapon -> plenty of space for the Welsh backline.</strike>

<strike>2. The french "vietcong" fly half is very limited and could be at the mercy of Martin Williams -> good field position for the welsh.</strike>

<strike>3. Bastardeau and Jauzion are two stupid concrete mixers whereas Roberts is a intelligent concrete mixer and Hook can find space.-> Roberts will created momentum and Hook will create the space for the backline.</strike>

<strike>But the french can target a shaky welsh lineout without Wyn Jones. The welsh pack is solid and will front up against the "the fromage qi pu"</strike>

<strike>So the welsh will win by taking France on at their own game.</strike>

France are not unbeatable.[/b]

The French will win because the are better at their own game. Roberts doesn't do the job without a great player outside him, the French defence is immense, the French will muller them in the contact and Trinh Duc is far from limited. The French pack also contains some of the best forwards in the world at the moment.

It's good to see your basing your prediction on stereotypes about the French as opposed to the team itself.

Mentality can is very important. The french always think that they're over the rest of the world look at Sarkosy. In rugby the french are the same. I am well positioned to tell you this as I played rugby for a French team in "Federal 1" and I loved it.

I like the French.

Well at least you aren't generalising :p

I can't see Wales winning, the main thing they've got over the French is the home advantage. Compare the Scotland game to the Ireland game, and you'll see that France perform better at home

Well they are, aren't they ?

All us Welsh folk are very quiet all of a sudden. I suppose we are all expecting to loose, even if were hoping to win. I'm just waiting to see what happens. If we can compete up front in the lineout and ruck, then we've got a very good chance to win, but if we struggle in those two key areas again, we've got no chance.

If we do compete up front, then I think we have the backs to stop France playing the way they have against Scotland and Ireland, i.e. in Jamie Roberts we have a player who can match Bastareaud in terms of size and physicality. Although, as shtove pointed out, we've still gotta be weary of Jauzion, who's another powerful player, but I'm sure Hook won't miss a tackle this time!

That then brings me onto Hook, who's exactly the type of centre needed to take on Bastareaud and Jauzion in attack. He's got the capabilities to turn Bastareaud inside out if he can get a one on one (see his try v England), so I'm excited to see what he can do.

All big if's though if the likes of Martyn Williams and Jonathan Thomas don't put in huge performances, not to mention young Warberton off the bench.

Just one word on Bradley Davies. I think everyone, even the French, will hope to see him have a good game. It will be very emotional for the young lad, playing in his biggest game so soon after loosing his mum.

You welsh should be more positive about this game.

The problem is that no one ever agrees with me.

Only two members and I went for Welsh, Scottish and Irish wins for this weekend.

Here's a man who speaks English

Time to put an end to this big cliché. Nothing very champagnish has been seen from us in recent times. This died with Laporte and when you look at the way we win games now, it's more about repetitive hammering than anything else.

The french do have a habit of losing some games unexpectedly, but that's a luxury only good teams can have, teams that are expected to win or at least come close almost every game against other NH teams. If you look at the past 10 years in the 6N, we have been the most consistent team, winning it 4 times with 2 grand slams.

The hammering we took against England last year is supposed to be an example of how France are inconsistent. Although very disturbing, these kinds of non-matches have happened to every team bar the ABs, only if it had been Wales or Ireland nobody would have made such a fuss about it. The final score was 34-10, just about the score between France and Ireland this year, and I don't hear anybody saying the Irish are inconsistent. They admit they lost against a better team on that day, just as we did.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
2. The french "vietcong" fly half is very limited[/b]

That, apart from being racist, is absolutely not true. It's particularly worrying from an Irish fan seing how he schooled your big star O'Gara last week and was MotM.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
3. Bastardeau and Jauzion are two stupid concrete mixers whereas Roberts is a intelligent concrete mixer[/b]

There again, Bastareaud making BOD his ***** in the last game and Jauzion scoring a try make me think your opinion is a little bit biased here.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>

I'd say it's about the contrary. Our lineout is the big concern we have, not particularly effective against Scotland and we lost 1/3 of our throws against Ireland. That's why we called Bonnaire back and we will need him. Our pack on the other hand is our big strength.
And if you want to insult us by using stupid clichés at least spell them right.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>

Far from it. And I think the welsh have the edge here with home advantage and a point to prove after two weird performances.

Now come on what does that have to do with rugby?

Woah, woah, woah. We all know it was a stupid post Elgringo but that is no need to insult the Irish people. O'Gara a star...pffffffff. Two words: Gordon D'arcy

:p Yeah sorry I didn't mean to.
What is it anyway between you Irish and that guy? For as long as I can remember he has been called a choker and a poor tackler by irish fans but he's has 80 caps and 950 points for Ireland!
Talk about love/hate relationship here

Sigh, a lack of alternatives unfortunatly. Seriously, we had no one, kind of like the way we have no other tight heads now. You don't really get it with FVrance as you have a big league and all. When you only have 4 teams, one of which as an old man as an outhalf, another with an Argentine and the other being crap you're stcuk with ROG. Things are good now though, 4 decent Irish outhalves, we even could afford to give the English Geraghty

What a terrible, TERRIBLE mistake from Hook. And we started off so well aswell.

How many intercept trys has he given away in his career? Got to be more than a couple

As you said, strong start from Wales as well, disappointing...
