Wales v England

Byrne is past it. Jury is out on Williams. Halfpenny isn't.

Not sure what baring that has when he uses "lions and grand-slam winners" as the basis of an argument so I point out formerly good players who that ***le also applies to.

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Lee Byrne. He's only about 30 now so he has plenty of time to turn his game around. It was two years ago that he was regarded as the best fullback in the world.

I see no signs of diminishing quality from Shane Williams. After a bad year in 2009 he responded beautifully in 2010 and has kept up that standard.

The English back row has been good in the past year, but don't get carried away.

Alright ennnn, taraaa! xxx

I see where Bullit is coming from, previous form is just that, previous. Byrne has shown nothing like his '08/'09 form since his injury on the Lions tour. Whilst I still live in hope that he'll suddenly regain something like that form (his basics are still generally good, catching, kicking and tackling), but I'm not holding my breath as he seems constantly flustered and rushed in everything he does. Being a complete tool doesn't help his case!

As for Shane Williams, again not really the player he was in '08. He still conjoures moments of magic in the majority of matches he plays and scored a few fabulous tries in last years 6 nations, but overall his game hasn't been quite what it was. In '08 he coupled his attacking genius with an all round solid and mistake free game, but those mistakes, missed tackles etc. have cropped back into his game. But he's also been limited by the overall form of the backline surrounding him, the ball simply isn't reaching his hands as often and in as much space as it was in '08. Still though, that try last year against France or his try v LI for the O's in the HC, or his excellent cameo against Toulon were all impressive for someone that the 'jury is out on'.

Hoping for Halfpenny to step it up a couple of notches in the run-up to the WC. Has been in great form since his return from injury.

Considering the fact that I live in London and that Wales have had a series of injuries, with world class prop Adam Jones being among those, I predict a win for England.

Jonathan Davies (this one:

)
Is the latest to lay into Dylan Hartley:
[Gatland says Hartley is a weak link in the England squad] - former dual-code star Davies says Wales' players must test that theory.
There has been a spat. If you get a chance to put a shot [tackle] on him you just smash him

Then Jeremy Guscott is actually the voice of reason for once:
But I think Warren needs to think a bit more about his own team rather than the others.

In fairness, that's just BBC Sport (as usual) taking something he said as a pundit on Scrum V and hyping it up to the nth degree in order to get more people watching on Friday.

11 S Williams
12 Roberts
13 Davies/Hook
14 Stoddart
15 Byrne

How about something a bit more radical:
11 S Williams
12 Hook
13 J Davies
14 Roberts
15 Byrne

And something that Mark Ring could come up with:
11 S Williams
12 Roberts
13 J Davies
14 Byrne
15 Hook

Byrne did start on the wing once, scoring against the Pacific Islanders in 2006.

Id cry if Stoddart started!

Yeah, it could be bad.
Mind you, if he somehow learned to tackle it wouldn't be as bad[/wishfulthinking]
He has good pace and a tough player. Just lacking a few traits for international level, like Tom James and Will Harries.

I have heard differing reports on George North. Some say he will be back by the 12th, others by the 26th.

Christ, Halfpenny just can't stay fit for international duty can he?

I'm a big fan of him, but if he's going to miss one match this year, then this is the one I'd choose

Between Gatland and Davies' comments, the ****** up Friday night crowd will end up behaving more like soccer fans then remembering where they are.

Bravo, numbnuts.

Nothing wrong with stoking up the home fans and regardless of what he says I wouldnt ever compare a international rugby match to a football match. It'll be more drink fueled alright, and the crowd will push to pressure the ref, but thats what they are meant to do isnt it.

Gatland though also does it when travelling away and puts his team at a serious disadvantage.

I dont think it'll make much of a difference to be honest. Without their first choice front row I think Wales may struggle for ball control up front. I think England should take this one by a 6 points or so.

I'm thinking more about the ****** up abusive lowlifes who'll invariably get OTT as the game goes on.

Chris stop being so mellow dramatic will you, starting to annoy me about the amount of crap you are sprouting, in all my years of going to the Millennium Stadium (since it was built in 2000) never have I seen or witnessed violence ... so stop acting like a child and insinuating that it will be the Welsh to cause the fight!.

In fairness, I've only ever been in a fight (well kinda) with one bunch of supporters and they were welsh. I was 18 and on my way home from a pub and 4 of them decided to give me a thumpin.

If that isnt a fair reflection of all of Wales I dont know what is :)

That of course is a joke

Rugby supporters do not have a reputation for violence ..for instance in the Ireland vs england game in croke park a match with huge Historical sentiment could have been an excuse for some idiots to cause trouble or violence but there was not a whisper during kicks for either team and all anthems were respected.

1. Quiet you!
2. "Amount of crap you're sprouting" - 1 post????
3. There's a difference between abusive idiots and violent idiots.
4. The Welsh are actually known of all the nations most likely to be abusive to players and opposition fans - See (recent example) Scarlets vs Leicester.
5. Stop being precious.

Thats all I can say because its typical, trying to seemingly take the moral high ground. We will see Friday night if there is any violence, if there ain't then I expect you to pipe down. The only type of violence I expect Friday is on the pitch with some good hits and rucking and of course some outburst towards the train services. Im going to let the 'Welsh' thing slide ... because when it comes to any form of abuse / violence regarding a set of fans England are pretty well up there too!

That shall be I, without the abuse :D :D A few bevies just add to the experience. Too many and it seems pointless paying 50 quid for a ticket. Little bit of friendly banter don't go a miss tho :D :D
Unfortunately for us yet another injury "scare". Halfpenny out, plz plz plz no Stoddard. I'd rather have Hook or roberts on the wing than him.
