I don't think that's the case, I think Carbery is seen as the second choice 10 but was forced to be used at 15 due to Kearney's injuries and Isa being needed elsewhere when our back three depth left much to be desired. Byrne has never played a European game that Carbery didn't play when both were available.

Larmour and Lowe have made a difference too, Daly has played 15 also. Carbery will likely continue to a bit at 15 but this season will certainly be the one where he plays the least amount of minutes at 10.

That would leave us with three 7s at best who will all be away during internationals and all have less than stellar injury profiles.

Nobody stands out in the academy, Doris is more of a 8, Murphy a 6.

He'd be a good signing for Connacht. I'm not too concerned about his loss if true. While Leinster may be short on out and out 7s, balance in the backrow is easy to achieve. There aren't many around who can boast talent like Rhys Ruddock, Scott Fardy, Sean O'Brien, Dan Leavy, Josh van der Flier, Jack Conan, Max Deegan, Josh Murphy and Caelan Doris. There's also the possibility of an extremely talented schools backrow joining the academy immediately.

Saw elsewhere that Connacht are also looking to sign Jonny Murphy, formerly of Ulster, now with Rotherham.

Its interesting these rumours of signing championship players have popped up over the last few weeks and should be an interesting to see how they develop. We need to grow our squad size and therefore more players who could live up to the same quality/standard as the likes of Thompson/Bassett/Rieder etc would be fantastic.

Grobler would be a great player to get and would replace the apparently outgoing Mat Symons (who interestingly enough i saw on the tube recently)
