Transfers 2012/13

Interesting signing that. Would probably indicate TOL is staying put.

Stringer has a deal with Munster on table and well I think it'll take a huge offer for him to leave Ireland as the tax rule will mean a large financial difference if he retires abroad.

have you noticed all the French transfers haven't been officially confirmed on the club's websites? so moves such as Charteris to Perpignan which everybody knows about the official statement from the Dragons, was he's leaving the club, same with Jenkins, Brew etc

this is because the French clubs aren't allowed to confirm their signing until the 20th of April

even though Chris Masoe has spoken of his move to Toulon, Toulon themselves are not allowed to announce the signing on their website until this date

I was indeed aware of this.
I wonder if van Niekirk and Lobbe are leaving Toulon, with Masoe and Delve coming.
It seems like the Argentine Top14 experience is ending, and I have heard that Toulon are not renewing JvN's contract. It would be great to see Delve with a nice big pack in front of him. If only Toulon kept Eifion...

no van Niekerk and Fernández Lobbe are both staying

Lobbe is on a long contract I think, whilst van Niekerk is out of contract

Joe El Abd and Jono Tawake are the players making way for them

Toulon want two good players in every position, this should be their pack next season

1. Jenkins/Sheridan
2. Bruno/Ivaldi/Orioli
3. Hayman/Kubriashvili
4. Kennedy/Mikautadze/Shaw
5. Botha/Suta
6. Fernández Lobbe/Missoup/Gunther
7. Masoe/Armitage
8. van Niekerk/Delve

from that only Lobbe and Jenkins are likely to have international call ups, so they should have good strength all year round

Not a bad pack at all. Add a backline of
09 Michalak (return to form provided)/Henjak
10 Wilkinson
11 Smith
12 Giteau
13 Bastareaud
14 Palisson
15 Rooney

and that is a pretty good team with almost no international callups. Much better balance than the side last season.

Potentially Delon Armitage at 15, as well.

yes the French media are reporting that as a done deal, as well as his brother Guy Armitage

Henjak is being released I think as well, so Tillous-Borde and possibly a new scrum half will be the nines

Michalak is being seen as reserve fly half, as the current reserve fly half is being moved out

Rooney is a good player, and not a penalty machine, unlike Armitage. Guy is French qualified I believe, and not getting any gametime under Booth, so I don't blame him for leaving.
Where is Bézy's long term position? I can't see him getting much time with Doussain, Burgess, Beauxis, and McAlister there. Could be a decent signing.
I gather that Richie Rees is on his way to France. He would thrive at Toulon, with that big pack, and I think Wilkinson/Giteau would love the quick ball. He is a tough boy and would handle the French forwards.

Called it ...

Huw Bennett to Lyon confirmed by Bennett on his twitter.

does he not know that Lyon are favourites to be relegated this season and are likely to be playing Pro D2?

do you think Gatland will select him when playing Pro D2?

Top 14 Relegation zone (8 matches left)

I heard that Rooney was being dispensed of?

Clearly Bennett's had enough of being on the sinking ship in Swansea and wants off. From all the stories he's hearing from Phillips, Byrne and Hook he probably fancies a new experience and broaden his horizons in France, regardless of what division their in. It'll still be a better standard of rugby than if he stayed at the Liberty. #Justsayin.
Anyone know how much game time Lee Thomas is getting at Lyon? He was a player I loved and never got the break I think he deserved.

Lee Thomas got plenty of breaks....they were just mainly his bones *boom boom*

I was a huge fan of him at Sale but he was the most injury prone player I've ever seen (more so than Tait and Wilkinson together). Rarely put more than two or three games together, in a row.
I know last season, for Lyon, he was starting the games he was fit, but he's still out a massive amount.

Lee Thomas was injured for the first few months of the season, returning in late December so has only played 6 Top 14 matches so far, was a regular last season when Lyon were promoted but as you say Olly he is like this guy ...

@ Cyril, it's a bit harsh on the Ospreys to call them Pro D2 standard, although the team is a bit rubbish now Adam Jones and the scrum keeps them towards the top of the RaboPro12

do you think Gatland will not pick Bennett if he is playing Pro D2?
