Nothing from the Sharks yet. Hopefully soon...

Greg Feek, Leinster's scrum coach, has confirmed that Michael Bent has signed for the province.

Meanwhile, Leinster scrum coach Greg Feek was asked about the new prop signing Michael Bent. The 25-year-old arrives from Wellington this summer with an Irish passport as Nathan White moves to Connacht.

“He’s obviously Irish, he’s got a sister living in Dublin,†said Feek. “I first met him when he was playing for Taranaki B when I was working for the Hurricanes.

“He is still young as a prop. The Irish passport helped and when his CV turned up on the desk, having known him, he’s on his way over for next season.

“He’s played tighthead, he can play loosehead so obviously tighthead is a role, anywhere in the world, even in France or England, you are always looking for tightheads to develop. But he can certainly pop over the other side as well.

“He’s a strong man, he hasn’t played at the high level a helluva lot but myself and Joe saw potential in him. With the age profile we got at Leinster, with Rossy in his thirties, and some good academy guys coming through like Marty Moore, Tadhg Furlong and loosehead James Tracy, it is between that age that we need o fill.â€

If Psychic Duck wants to start a thread about Ireland poaching props now I can have no complaints. Bit of a shambles really.

From a Leinster point of view it's an interesting signing. Bent can apparently play competently on both sides of the scrum which, while perhaps being less of an asset in the club game as in the international arena, is still a useful quality to have. Certainly would have helped to have a player like him against the Ospreys a few weeks back.

The fact that he only has 5 Super rugby appearances at 25 is a bit of a worry. Contrast that with Leinster's last front row import. Nathan White came to us as an established top level prop whereas this guy is a bit of an unknown. Perhaps I'm getting paranoid in my old age, but it smacks very slightly of the Peter Borlazy situation.

I wonder what this means for Jamie Hagan. Brining in another tight head prop of around the same age of him isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of his abilities by management.

was wondering when we would find a plastic paddy prop to come play in ireland :p

Maybe its because they think he's on the verge of an Ireland call-up and that they need another prop when he's not in nappies for when it happens?

...

It's the way I tell them. In all seriousness though, most coaches wouldn't be happy with their third choice prop being a 21 year old. So it doesn't necessarily mean much. Not saying that's definite though...

Aside from Tom Court?

Calum Black, Ryan Jablinski, Declan Fitzpatrick, Stewart Maguire, Finlay Bealham...

In Irish rugby, quantity has a quality all of its own!

It's the scattershot approach. Fire enough bullets and some are bound to hit the target!

Here are the records of the props when they arrived, as you say Borlase and Bent have very similar records

Peter Borlase
Arrived aged 25 from the Crusaders
2 Super Rugby caps
25 ITM Cup caps

Michael Bent
Arrives aged 26 from the Hurricanes
9 Super Rugby caps (just 2 starts)
29 ITM Cup caps

Nathan White
Arrived aged 30 from the Chiefs
40 Super Rugby caps (three seasons as first choice tighthead)
62 ITM Cup caps

Watched Bent play last weekend. Rather appropriate surname is all I can say.

Oh bother. I don't want to make my mind up before I see the lad, but I have quite a strong feeling that Greg Feek is going to have his work cut out.

The Hurricanes in general seemed clueless during the match, so it might have just been a bad day for him.
Definitely give him a shot before casting him out.

Do they not have a goal kicker? Otherwise, like... why?
