Bismarck without a C, Alister in stead of Alistair, Mcloed in stead of McLeod, Gehard Mostert, Conrad Hoffman (why 1 n?). It hurts my eyes!

SHARKS TEAM

The only change to the team is that of Jacques-Louis Potgieter who is playing in the flyhalf position in place of the injured Lambie.
The big changes are all on the bench where Eugene van Staden, Gerhard Mostert and JP Pietersen all return from injury.
The coach has opted to only fly over the 22 man starting line up as he can fly in any late replacement on short notice.

3. Jannie du Plessis
4. Steven Sykes
5. Alistair Hargreaves
6. Keegan Daniel

Injury update/status

JLP injured his calf in the dissapointing performance against Crusaders at Twickenham. Will bring the details as soon as i get them.

Ross Skeate played 40 min for The Sharks XV on Saturday, but i don't expect him to be named in the Superrugby 22 until after the Bye.
Deysel should also be in the selction frame for The Sharks as early as the Lions game and at the latest the game after the Bye. Deysel will could play Sharks XV this weekend.

Sykes to Leave Sharks

Steven Sykes has decided to call time on his career at the Sharks.Leinster have just released a statement about the signing of the 26 year old lock and as well as a flyhalf and tight head prop from the Crusaders and Connacht respectively.
Sykes, an almost permanent feature in the 4 jersey for the Sharks in recent years has been a member of the Sharks squad since 2003 and its hard to imagine he is only 26 years old.
Steven is quick to state the move is purely a career move and is hopeful that the move could even see him belting out Ireland's call for a team in a very light shade of green but did concede that leaving the Sharks was in no way an easy decision and one he took lightly saying that after he had signed the Leinster contract he sat down in long reflection about the decision but ultimately feels it is the correct one.
Sykes has represented the Sharks in over 130 games and still promises The Sharks 100 % in the Super Rugby competition currently underway and the upcoming Currie Cup.
We at Sharksworld hope Sykesie gets to lift another trophy or two while still part of the Black and White family.

No need to worry Sharks fans we still have the 4 big locks we need for Depth. Mostert,Hargreaves,Skeate and Bresler.

Hmmmm, I think Sykes probably knows that the management would like Mostert to be the future, he has a much bigger physical presence, and a fair work rate to go with it.

All the best to Steven- Except if you try to play for Ireland, cause if you do, well thats just second rate.

When are going to start player rotation...I have a bad feeling there will be big changes for the Lions game

LH,

which lock do you prefer to play next to Ali... Bresler or Mostert? Or maybe Skeate?

Not that I was asked but... I'd go with Mostert for now, but give Anton a shot against the Lions or Cheetahs. How old are they?

If JLP is out who goes to 10? Bosman, with Jacobs and Terblanche midfield?

Well, we don't have Monty Dumond anymore but Guy or Ross Cronje (I always forget which one is the SH and which one is the FH) might get a chance

Juan Martin Herdan- wait...
;)

Gavin Henson might be interested, wait until he finds out another club needs an inside back!

Ross scrummie, Guy 10. I think we will probably just bring Swannie onto the bench and Hoffman can be flyhalf cover for Bosman, if JLP is out. Or Sharks could get Tian Meyer back from Pumas, cause he played 9 and 10 for Sharks u/21 before and he was also Captain. We have already loan deal with Pumas for Tian Meyer if he is required.

http://www.sharksworld.co.za/2011/03/29/future-sharks-update/ -Good read.

What happened to Steve Meyer, who played fly half at the start of the Currie Cup last year?

So the most likely line-up:

1 John Smit
2 Bismarck du Plessis
3 Jannie du Plessis
4 Steven Sykes
5 Allstair Hargreaves
6 Keegan Daniel
7 Willem Alberts
8 Ryan Kankowski
9 Charl McLeod
10 Meyer Bosman
11 Lwazi Mvovo
12 Stefan Terblanche
13 Adi Jacobs
14 Odwa Ndungane
15 louis Ludik

16 Tendai Mtawarira
17 ?
18 ?
19 Jacques Botes
20 Riaan Swanepoel
21 Conrad Hoffmann
22 ?

You Sharks are almost as hit by injury as us. The injuries are more disruptive possibly with losing both 1st choice flyhalfs.

What happened to Steve Meyer, who played fly half at the start of the Currie Cup last year?

Last I heard he was taking a break from rugby due to personal reasons. I'm sure JJR would to be able to give more clarity.

Also, I wonder whether it wouldn't be better to bring Cronje in as flyhalf cover; Hoffmann is great cover for 9 and 15 but at 10 he has looked kinda rushed/unsettled IMO in the past.

When Smit is playing as a prop, I think you should bring in either Herbst (prop) or Burden (hooker) as a second front-row sub, now that van Staden is injured.

What happened to Steve Meyer, who played fly half at the start of the Currie Cup last year?

He has a long term knee injury and could return around Currie Cup time.

At Stormer2010-

I don't think John will play as a Prop this week...Bismarck has played pretty much every minute this season and i think If Smit starts it will be a 2. Our squad will be injury free after the Bye. Only Lambie and Deysel are out and it is possible Deysel is going to play Vodacom Cup this weekend and return to the senior side for the Lions game. We should have a full squad for Hurricanes Game.

Possible Line up

1.Beast
2.Smit (C)/Bissie
3.Jannie/Van Staden
4.Sykes
5.Hargreaves
6.Botes
7.Alberts
8.Kanko
9.Mcloed
10.Bosman
11.JPP
12.Jacobs
13.Stef
14.Ndungane
15.Ludik

16.Bissie/Smit
17.Jannie/Van Staden
18.Mostert
19.Keegan
20.Hoffman
21.JLP?, not sure about injury yet./Swanepoel/ Tian Meyer...will be able to give more clarity on this situation either tonight or 2morrow morning.
22.Mvovo

LH,

which lock do you prefer to play next to Ali... Bresler or Mostert? Or maybe Skeate?

For the time being, Mostert still needs a wee bit more S14 game time to be fit to start, so I would prefer Mostert, with either Sykes or Skeate covering on the bench
Letting Bresler get valuable game time in the Vodacom Cup so that if Hargreaves goes to the WC we can rely on Anton to be able to start and finish games

Mostert is a big, big boy, I might be wrong but is he not bigger (mass and height) than Alberts?
Doesn't have the same pace but still a strong ball carrier and rarely concedes ground when making a tackle

@ Draggs

Bresler is 21/22 or so, Mostert is 24/25

Injuries permitting, I'd go with the team that JJR has listed, but considering the form of Francious Louw in the past few games I think we need all the fetching type players we can get, which In our squad only come in the form of Bismarck and Botes

IMO one of the big misses against the Crusaders was an out-in-out fetcher, its time that we call our feeder team for a certain Heinrich to come and join us

JLP is 50/50 4 saturday and it seems Riaan swanepoel will start at 12 when Bosman moves to 10. Adi will stay on the bench and be used as an impact player last 20-30 minutes. If Jlp Potgieter can play he will do so off the bench. So we can safely say that Bosman will be at 10 this weekend, which is great for our attack. As long as forwards can give go forward ball and retain the ball well, bosman should have a very good game. If The stormers can't cope in the forwards i expect Bosman to cause lots of problems for Peter Grant. Bosman will also assist getting our centres moving onto the ball at pace with his strong approach towards the advantage line and his spot on distribution skills. Expect The Sharks to play very similar to how they did in the CC; ball in hand approach will be seen a lot on saturday.

Well, I want to see Mostert and Hoffmann starting against the Lions but I am afraid they both start on the bench
