06 March 2011 (15:22) - Following the red card tackle on Odwa Ndungane against the Western Force on Saturday in Perth in the first tour match of the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament, news from the camp is good for the dreadlocked wing.
In fact, there was mixed news on the injury front as the physical battle took its toll on both sides, with the Force losing a couple of players as well.

Ndungane had to be stretchered off in the 17th minute of the game following a spear tackle from Rory Sidey which has earned the Force player a date with the Disciplinary Officer.

Ndungane was taken to hospital but was later released and returned to the camp. "We're hoping he will be fine," said coach John Plumtree from the team's base in Melbourne where they will be preparing ahead of Friday night's match against the Rebels. "A lot of it was just precautionary. He underwent tests in hospital and was 100% in the morning. We will test him during week to make sure he's all fine for Friday night."

Unfortunately, the news was not as bright for wing JP Pietersen (pictured) who has sustained knee cartilage damage.

"He has a meniscus tear," confirmed Plumtree. "He's returning home and will probably be operated on Tuesday. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it sounds, and we won't know how long he'll be out until after the operation. We're looking to get Mark Richards over at this stage, he's with the SA Sevens in Cape Town. Hopefully he'll arrive later in week."

Both of Jacques Botes and Willem Alberts took knocks in the game but the coach advised that both look positive.

"Jacques is struggling a little bit with his ribs but we think he will be OK for the weekend, and Willem is fine, he's just a bit battered and bruised."

Just confirms the intent from duplesis was dirty.......and typical.

It is part of rugby...all teams get a bit fired up sometimes. Guys always talk like that on a rugby field; not new to me. I get that about everyweekend...playing on the wing right next to opposition supporters is not the most pleasant experience; nice when u score a try and shut them up though.
I mean we do play Rugby...this is not ballroom dancing or Football. That is why we love rugby...it is super physical and there is tons of aggresive play; that is what i look forward to everygame...it is a great challenge.

A bit off topic...who saw Arsenal-Barcelona?...it is a disgrace that they call football a contact sport, the amount of diving and hollywoood acting is terrible to watch...they don't know it, but it is killing that sport; so much for Beautiful game...they act like a bunch of Girls out there.

I don't think so. You can't blame a guy for talking smack in a rugby game, especially one as intense as that Force vs Sharks match. These rugby players are very physical and aggressive but they aren't out to intentially injure anyone for instance I'm sure Sidey only got a bit ahead of himself and the extra bloke arriving at the tackle made things difficult which lead to Ndungane's injury. Both these injuries occured where more than 2 players where involved in contact; with Ndungane there was the inital tackler and while he was lifted another came and exasperated the situation and taking it out of the initail tacklers control. Yes, it was dangerous to lift the player but it became an accident when the other arrived. With Pocock it was a ruck and Jannie du Plessis got his arm around Pococks neck which is also dangerous. Pocock, with his leg stuck then turned to release the ball and that twist is where he got injured. Both accidents that came from initail dangerous play but not intentional injuries.

Nah thats a pathetic excuse buddy. The comment from duplesis confirms the intent. And for that he is a tosser in my mind just like his brother. You can play hard without playing like a moron. Juan Smith, dannie russouw and Brad thorn spring to mind as good players that still play hard and physical.

Stormer 2010 - Where have i mentioned anything about the spear tackle? why are you even bringing it up? That was the result of inexperienced and poor technique. It was a horrible injury and Sidey paid the price for it and he deserved it. Move along.

Jannie was clearing him out...it is not like Bakkies Botha who looks like all that he wants to do is injure the opposition at times. It is Rugby...c'mon, when i play i also want to smash my opposite number, but i do it with a strong tackle or clear out, just like Jannie did...there is nothing wrong with that, we do want to dominate the collision points after all...it is important to do that if you want to be a Champion side. Smashing someone with a Headbutt...that is a different story..cause it is aginst the laws of the game.

me too...no worries

BIG NEWS-

We will know by Friday if The Sharks will play Crusaders in London on the 25/26th of March.

That would be quite something. Will involve a huge amount of traveling by both teams, especially the Crusaders. Hopefully they'll exhaust all the alternatives before they make the final decision.
I trust the Sharks management will make a good rugby decision that won't negatively impact our campaign, not an emotion one.

Also please post links to news articles, so we can all read what's up

Pocock got injured because he was in a head lock and twisted himself round to clear the ball while his leg was stuck. Jannie shouldn't have had him in a lock in the first place but it was Pocock that twisted himself round with his leg stuck that caused the injury. So, no intent from Jannie to injure Pococks leg. WRT to the spear tackle, I brought it up to show that aggressive play goes both ways and I have no problem with Sidey as such; he lifted Ndungane but it was Fairbanks that rotated him in the air and drilled him downwards while upended. Clearly intentional; no attempt to let go/stop/help and the player was allready tackled, his interfering was always only going to be to cause damage.

I only bring it up because I am tired of SA player getting the bad wrap and when it goes the other way it gets skimmed over.

That would be good exposure to Super rugby up there. I just don't know why the Crusaders would want to give up home advantage as surely any other NZ venue would still not be neutral and all that travel can't be good for both teams and would be unnecessary travel for the Crusaders; at least the Sharks are allready on tour. Money talks I guess and the stadia near Christchurch are probably too small and they allready lost the income from the Hurricanes game.

Sharks line-up to face the Rebels
http://www.superxv.com/news/super15_rugby_news.asp?id=29238

1. Tendai Mtawarira , 2. Bismarck du Plessis , 3. John Smit ( Captain ) , 4. Steven Sykes , 5. Alistair Hargreaves , 6. Keegan Daniel , 7. Willem Alberts , 8. Ryan Kankowski , 9. Charl McLeod , 10. Patrick Lambie , 11. Lwazi Mvovo , 12. Meyer Bosman , 13. Stefan Terblanche , 14. Odwa Ndungane , 15. Louis Ludik
Replacements , 16. Craig Burden , 17. Jannie du Plessis , 18. Anton Bresler , 19. Jacques Botes , 20. Conrad Hoffmann , 21. Jacques-Louis Potgieter , 22. Adrian Jacobs

Not pulling any punches. When is Deysel expected? I would like to see Hoffmann get 20m this game; see what we (WP) are missing out on to keep Januarie on board LOL. I would have had Jannie there though as the Rebels' scrum hasn't looked too hot and I would have applied the extra pressure to try and make it count.

Look, I'm not saying Jannie wasn't being reckless and was a real tosser for the comment he made. And I'm not talking about SANZAR. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive but I can mention as many Aus dirty plays as anyone can mention SA plays yet who generally gets the bad rep?

Yeah mate u are being sensitive. My original comment was directed at the duplesis brothers though until now i always thought bismarck was the head case and jannie was the the good son. After all that has been said Jannie has always been pretty clean whithout backing down in the physicality. I can give him the benefit of the doubt that it was in fact accidental.............mind you we were trying to poach the duplesis brothers at the force and I was licking my lips at the thought of having some proper hard kunts anchoring our pack!
Call it jealousy if you will!

Deysel is not ready yet, but if we play Crusaders in London expect him to join the squad in England. Even if he is ready next week i would only bring him in for Crusaders so that he does not have to deal with all the long flights if we play in London. Also waiting for Sharks XV team announcement...i am hoping he will be on the bench(Deysel).

@Steve-o...most of the info i put up here is on www.sharksworld.co.za or www.sharksrugby.co.za
...some stuff i don't have links for because it is all done by mouth...eg.a player giving me some info.

LONDON GAME IS OFF...Check www.sharksworld.co.za Or check Skysports website.

Marcell Coetzee SA u/20 8th man is flying in place of Jean Deysel who is still to find 100% fitness.

Sharks XV loose forward Marcell Coetzee had capped a meteoric rise through the ranks this season with a call-up to the Sharks Super Rugby tour squad.
The plan, as far as we can work it out, was always for Jean Deysel to join the Sharks a week or so into their tour, but a number of sources have since confirmed that he is not quite ready to take that step. An article on SARugby.com reveals that Coetzee will board the plane instead, along with Mark Richards and the pair should join up with the squad after this weekend's game in Melbourne.
We'd like to congratulate Marcell and wish him all the best for the tour ahead. It's a fantastic opportunity – and just reward for a fantastic player who has really stepped up in the Vodacom Cup in the first two rounds. Congrats as well to the Sharks union, who are really putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to backing their own juniors to deliver.

Vodacom cup team for this weekend-

The Sharks XV
15. Kobus de Kock
14. Piet Lindeque
13. Jerome Pretorius
12. Howard Mnisi
11. Anton Verster
10. Guy Cronje
9. Ross Cronje (Captain)
8. Lambert Groenewald
7. Daniel Adonga
6. Nic Claasen
5. Gerhard Mostert
4. Jandre Marais
3. Wiehahn Herbst
2. Kyle Cooper
1. Sabelo Nhlapo
Replacements
16. Monde Hadebe
17. Robbie Harris
18. Peet Marais
19. Lee Thompson
20. Cobus Reinach
21. Fred Zeilinga
22. Luzuko Vulindlu

Seesh...close one. Stef needs to play fullback or sit on the bench...he is not a 13. Really want to see Jacobs at 13 next week. Also John Smit must also only cover off the bench at 1 and 2. He is still terrible at 3...seen enough of him there to see he can't make it at 3. Good wake up call today, but happy with the loosies and Bismark; Bosman also had a good one. Looking forward to Chiefs game now.

Bismarck duplesis had a great game against the rebels. if i was a bokke supporter id be spewing if smit starts ahead of him at the rwc and tri nations.

With the Sharks playing their weakest match so far (John Smit should really retire now) I was afraid we were going to lose. We are 10 from 2 on tour... I still cannot believe it. We were lucky with the 4th try by Bosman which is completely thanks to Adi Jacobs. My moment of the match was the Kankowski try. Not only is he my favourite player but it was the moment we got back into the game after failing to score with a man advantage for 10 minutes.

Bismarck du Plessis was incredibly sloppy with the line outs which almost cost us the match. Alberts was doing better than last week in Perth but still not what I expect from him.

Cipriani, Vuna and Delve were the best players on the Rebels side. Sharks Kankowski, Ludik and McLeod were amazing!

By the way, it was the most difficult day of the year so far. Match started in the morning for me when I was at work and I was only able to download the match 10 hours later to watch it. Had to avoid TRF and Facebook for hours haha
