06 March 2011 (15:22) - Following the red card tackle on Odwa Ndungane against the Western Force on Saturday in Perth in the first tour match of the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament, news from the camp is good for the dreadlocked wing.
In fact, there was mixed news on the injury front as the physical battle took its toll on both sides, with the Force losing a couple of players as well.
Ndungane had to be stretchered off in the 17th minute of the game following a spear tackle from Rory Sidey which has earned the Force player a date with the Disciplinary Officer.
Ndungane was taken to hospital but was later released and returned to the camp. "We're hoping he will be fine," said coach John Plumtree from the team's base in Melbourne where they will be preparing ahead of Friday night's match against the Rebels. "A lot of it was just precautionary. He underwent tests in hospital and was 100% in the morning. We will test him during week to make sure he's all fine for Friday night."
Unfortunately, the news was not as bright for wing JP Pietersen (pictured) who has sustained knee cartilage damage.
"He has a meniscus tear," confirmed Plumtree. "He's returning home and will probably be operated on Tuesday. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it sounds, and we won't know how long he'll be out until after the operation. We're looking to get Mark Richards over at this stage, he's with the SA Sevens in Cape Town. Hopefully he'll arrive later in week."
Both of Jacques Botes and Willem Alberts took knocks in the game but the coach advised that both look positive.
"Jacques is struggling a little bit with his ribs but we think he will be OK for the weekend, and Willem is fine, he's just a bit battered and bruised."
