The Movie Thread

Is it really a shock? None of the remakes are any good. The Internet just seams to have taken special exception with this one.
There are lots of people on YouTube who have made a good living attacking films from a culture war perspective. If I'm being honest sometimes they have a point.

Saw Black Bag during the week, was a well put together find the mole spy thriller.

Neither of which are a patch on the originals which are all time classics.
True, but didn't expect them to be. But they were still good IMO and offered something a little different from the animated versions.

It's the actress. She's apparently okay in the film, but she's clearly not been trained how or what to say and is essentially walking from garden rake to garden rake.

A good film overcomes that, see Wicked

I've not seen the last 30mins (was on plane flight wasn't on my connecting flight) I enjoyed it well enough.

However Temple of Doom is rubbish.

"Disney's live-action take on Snow White has come in with a global launch of $87.3M. From 51 material international box office markets, the update of the classic 1937 animation grossed an estimated $44.3M. Both domestic and overseas returns are below pre-weekend projections."
Two flops in a row. Ouch.

Trying to predict from opening weekend is fraught for this kind of thing. Mufasa and Moana 2 are still making bank but didn't make tons. Just parents taking the kiddywinks.

Captain America not a flop either general rule box office making twice budget 180m budget V 400m box office. Its just not making Phase 1-3 gangbusters. Still in cinemas.

We typically see the "next big" thing by now. No one seems to have found it or maybe due to streaming etc, it's not possible anymore 🤔

I think we're going through a new phase entirely look at average budgets of the top 10 oscars nominations this year.

We're looking at more the 70's as a model or possibly the 90s. A single film will be huge. But franchises like 80s 00s and 10s aren't going to happen.

It'll happen again these things are cyclical.

Some of the best and most original films ever were made in the 70s and 90s

Be interesting to see how they go. Final Fantasy tried an original story that wasn't great. The went with FF7 post story which was alright, but again didn't really live up to the hype of the games.

Do Zelda go with one of their game stories? Might be hard to turn it into a clear story and likely they'll have to cut some content. Or go with an new story entirely? Advantage they might have over Final Fantasy though is the main characters in general stay the same. Link, Zelda, Ganondorf.
