The Movie Thread

If I was richer and had more time on my hands I'd still do it tbh.

It's what I plan to do in my retirement. (lel.... I won't be able to retire :()

Ebay is your friend. Which reminds me, I have an awful lot of it to stick up on ebay...

Honestly there guys there cheaper and better alternatives to GW's cash cow out there (some have better looking miniatures too).

Who you thinking? Warmahordes is better and sorta cheaper, but a lot of the minis are ugly as sin.

I prefer the Warmachine minatures but the old ones when they completely outdated all my rulebooks I stopped playing. I still have a sizable Cygnar contingent that's fully painted.

I don't do much Wargaming these days moving up North moved me away from my gaming community and I haven't found a decent one up here so mainly I buy boardgames for me and the wife to play now.

Star Wars: Imperial Assault is excellent (minatures boardgame really)
Star Wars: Armada (bit prices are similar to GW a few years back).
(I'm not really a fan of X-Wing)
Flames of War/Team Yankee is a better game and will cost you about 100 quid for a competitive army.
And I've not played it but I hear very good things about Dropzone Commander, Firestorm Armada(and other Spartan games)

Seriously though whilst I love the lore and setting for 40k the cost of it really is sad these days. (I prefer to think Age of Sigmar not existing as it totalled one of my favourite games). I should really sell my Inquisition/Grey Knights/Imperial Guard army.

I've never been able to part from mine... justs sits in boxes/cases.

Same I have about 4 cases with the felt cushioning compartments for each individual model.

Although I'm very much a hoarder I have so much stuff from my youth I have all the Star Wars action figures (when they where re-released in the 90's since I wasn't born when they originally came out), I still have the mini army soldiers mainly from the napoleonic wars era. I keep thinking about putting stuff on eBay but it was part of my childhood.

#SpaceWolvesFTW and you all know it.

Also def liking the idea of getting into them again once retirement happens.

When do people start watching Christmas films?

I feel like it's only acceptable from Dec 1st onwards,
I tend to wait even later than that.

Can't wait to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation again, ****ing love that film so much

I tend to watch one on the 1st December with a yule log.

Then leave it a week (Till the 7th) and watch one a day till Christmas eve when i'm usually with family and watch Jingle all the way, The Muppets Christmas carol and Father Ted Christmas special in one sitting pretty much.

Personal Top 5.
1: Die Hard (Not very christmassey really but a hell of a film and Rickman saying ho ho ho is just magical)
2: Trading Places
3: Elf
4: Gremlins
5: Scrooged
Honourable mentions to Mircle on 34th street and Bad Santa.

Would do the same with Christmas music but harder to control.

Saw Arrival last night and honestly thought it was a load of high concept ****e. Good concept ruined by a plot that jumps all over the place and the most boring reveal ever. It's getting really well reviewed, but I can't see why. The alien design and the idea of having to figure out a completely alien language was excellent but they strayed toward senseless twists too much. Genuinely thought it was pretentious and poorly told as a story.

Fantastic Beats and Where To Find Them

If it didn't have the Harry Potter element it would just be considered another B grade attempt to ride on Hazza's glory. I struggled remembering the film afterwards. Also it's properly dark in places and if a little more explicit would of been a 15....I have no idea what the writers were thinking.

I found it okay, but you're right it has very little of what made Harry Potter a success. The plot couldn't really make up its mind in places and the first half of the movie really has very little to do with the main plot which just kind of pops up with 30 minutes to go.

My man Colin Farrell knocking out the park though pulled another huge acting performance out of the bag, feel abit dissapointed in the ending personally.

Redmayne was alright I guess.

Shame you feel that way about arrivals looked really good in the trailers and on paper but there was the worry that I could go that way.

Mate judging by the reviews you'll probably love it, but me and the people I saw it with felt very mixed about it. It's clever in parts but did my nut. Was probably a tad harsh on it in hindsight.
Thought the casting was decent for Fantastic Beasts bar the female lead. She was so flat and bland the whole movie.

Been watching a few on Now tv as got 2 months free:

1. Silence of the Lambs - haven't seen this in ages, but forgot what a great thriller it is and how brilliant Anthony Hopkins is in this. He totally owns this film.

2. The Terminator - FX are laughable by today's standards, but still the relentlessness of Arnie's terminator as he hunts down Sarah Connor is unforgettable. Really should have stopped at T2, the rest of the Terminator films are crap.

3. Spectre - saw this at the cinema, but worth a watch again, even if Blofeld getting captured at the end is laughable. Same level as Skyfall IMO. But neither as good as Casino Royale.

Is it me or is Hollywood not releasing many good films compared to 1990s? They are either remakes or superhero sequels. They seems to have run out of ideas.
