I think both games are gonna be awesome, instead of one rugby game we are getting 2 in one year, I'm happy.

I agree, I'm going to be real happy as well. I'll post here exactly what I posted at the other forum I frequent...

I'll be buying both games no doubt. I'll play both extensively but in the end I'll only play the better product exclusively.

Played the demo on the 360 for rwc2011, and all it is, is a nice looking, very marginally improved rugby 2008, all this 'bs' about not re-using old content, I don't buy a word of it. So thoroughly disappointed, was going to buy both of them but after playing that demo and watching the challenge gameplay trailer, I see no competition, hands down challenge wins. Good job HB in ruining a good opportunity.
Though maybe rwc2011 will actually be somewhere near good on harder difficulty but I very highly doubt it. especially based on previous games where all the harder difficulty did was increase the tackle radius (the distance which you would have to be in before the player would tackle you) oh and dive tackles are still 'f'ing stupid, o wow he's going to get away and he's faster, I know I'll dive and miraculously gain 5m on the player.
Grr so frustrated, but so glad that it looks like challenge is going to come through =)
looks as though tackling is going to have to be done realistically, as in not just diving every time, and changing direction won't be near instant. O and running close support won't just result in instant tackle, and small gaps at high speed seem to be make-able, but it may not be as good as it looks, but still from that demo and the trailer, I can't see it being worse than rwc2011.
O and the biggest things is that it has the itm cup =)
go the TURBOS!!!!
Crudens corner.

After playing the demo (too bad it is only a half) over and over again I tend to agree with your post. Your post is pretty spot on, one good thing was at least I didn't need to relearn the controls. :p

By the way, I'm thinking Rugby Challenge looks awesome too. Right now it looks better than RUgby World Cup 2011, I just hope it plays as well. Looking forward to trying it when it's out. :D

I too hope it plays as well. I know that they are not going to release a demo but does anyone at all have at least an idea of around what week it will be released? I know they said it is going to be region free but I'm still wondering if it is going to be sold at game stores out here.

I really can't stand behind view camera - makes it just look like RL1/2/3
Same with the passing, make it look horrible - hopefully it looks better from side view

behind view still works for league and rugby games, i do like side view better but they both have their advantages/disadvantages.

I know - different horses for different courses :p
Some people love behind view and can't stand side, and vice versa

Yeah i personally have to play in the end to end view maybe my spatial awareness is just rubbish :(

RWC 2011? or 08 with a new cover?

immensely dissapointed about the rugby world cup 2011 game.

not only does it have no longevity, and is without the 1 and 2 ranked teams in the world, but the actual gameplay is looking, frankly, shockingly horrible. the game engine and mechanisms seem to be exactly the same as rugby 08, which was a extremely frustrating game in 2007 let alone in 2011 on the ps3. the alinements of players on the pitch is the same, the graphics are still ridiculous, the tackling and stupid offload system remain unchanged. the rucking mechanism on the demo, and therefore logically the proper game, is ineffective. scrums and mauls remain the same, without the players stats having a vague impact. from what i can tell on the demo players who are very quick and/or strong are still several times more effective than players who have a good passing and handling ability, which is extremely unrealistic (again)

it seems to me deeply unfair to expect people to put money into buying rugby wc 2011 when rugby challenge, which looks to be a far better game from trailers and gameplay videos , is also available. rugby challenge involves 98 club teams, as well is international teams, and what appears to be a game engine and playing quality which is actually up to date compared to the rest of the world.

so PLEASE PLEASE check out these trailers before buying rugby world cup 2011

When you play the demo a few more times it grows on you, however i agree this ***le is something i would have expected in 09/10 but inexcusable in 11/12

I think trailers are not solid indicators of the quality of many games, particularly sports ones. The trailer for Rugby World Cup has been panned by even people who are into giving it a fair go. It's a wildly unhelpful trailer. Especially when put up against Rugby Challenges game-play trailer, which is fantastic and an example of how to produce a good trailer.

Rugby Challenge may well play as good as it looks, but that's yet to be properly determined by a hands-on. Right now though, it's got everything going for it.

Just because one game looks excellent, it doesn't mean that the other ***le out there is shockingly terrible. That's just going to extremes. shockingly terrible is a 2-3/10 game. Rugby World Cup has seen a lot of people who've tried it think differently from each other but it's probably averaging closer to 7/10 overall. That's just not as good as the early opinions of the other ***le.

Just because something that's out there being played and isn't being viewed as good as something that's not out there and can't be played, it doesn't make it "shockingly terrible".

Im finding the demo growing on myself as well. Played Rugby Challenge and loved it so Im finding positives in both games and will enjoy both when they come out. I do believe both games had trailers that didn't do them justice. REJOICE EVERYONE TWO RUGBY GAMES ARE ON THE WAY AND MAKE THE MOST OF THEM!!!!-Psalm Beer 3:16

If this was the year 2006 RWC demo would be hailed as the third best sports ***le on PS2 and Xbox. Only PES6 and Madden 06 being better.

If this was the year 2011 it would be hailed as 'shockingly terrible'

Jeez.. I hate the behind view camera view.

Does RC have a side on Camera?

It may not have been that they said they weren't using any old data, but from an interview with hb I read somewhere gave me the impression that they were going to rebuild the game engine, or gameplay mechanics, from the demo it doesn't seem like it. It was a looooong time ago that I read that so don't think I can actually find it.
But from what people are saying maybe I misinterpreted that. (or maybe they were just referring to what this game lacks when compared to its predecessors... troll)
Yeah I am biased in that I was always going to buy challenge with the turbos in it, but I was also pretty keen to buy rwc2011, the demo changed my mind.
Nevertheless I am still disappointed with hb and rwc2011.

RWC = Virtual Striker
RC = Fifa

Actually this would be closer

RWC2011 = Fifa World Cup 2010
Rugby Challenge = Fifa

One has the World Cup, one has the club competitions and franchise mode. This is why I have both on pre order :D

In other words, "I got that into my head and now feel absolutely no need to provide any sort of link or support to what I'm saying".

You're talking games modes, welshglory is talking quality

I also think the RWC trailer did the RWC game justice = underwhelming
