Suggestions/ideas for Rugby 2012

yeah, halfback sounds alot better than scrum half, that sounds kinda gay!..
And fly half?? lol... as for second row.... nuff said.

That sounds kinda homophobic!

Anyway, can't we compromise and just call the ten an Outhalf? I don't really care, my main concern is that 15 won't be called the custodian.

Hey guys, i'm not trying to start a war here. it's just that these names don't really get used in New Zealand... how hard would it be to just change the names??? not asking for much. You can still have your precious "Fly-halves"

I'm homophobic.

Seriously what does scrum half even mean?. That he is half of the scrum? lol.. .
Atleast with Halfback you can say, oh he's always with the forwards but he distributes to the backs, he can be half a back.
Why are the wingers the same but these other positions are different.
Because so many first five's can play second five the role kind of just gels, as does the name. [First and second]
Centre's are still centres. But I guess the same goes with, some centres can play second five but not first five..
So meh!!

Fully agree... every position on the field should have it's own name, and special attributes for it... especially 10, 12, 13. Carter can play 10 and 12 (and 15), Nonu can play 12 and 13 but Nick Evans could only play 10 and Smith only plays 13.
Alot of NZ and Australian number 10's can play both 10 and 12. In fact Carter and Giteau both started at 12, But in Europe and Britain most no 10's are very specialised in that position, probably due to the traditional kicking game they play

Part of me says, "no, it isn't really needed" and another says, "other sports games put in the small differences, why shouldn't this?" A third part says, "I still don't know what a five-eighth is!"

A setting similar to displaying height and weight as imperial or metric should be possible.

My idea is that you can select the local terminology in the game's options.

For a competition, say S15 you'd pick a team and the 'dialect' could be selected in main menu options where you'd have an aussie, kiwi or saffa style commentary depending on what team(s) you pick. So basically, as if the match was being broadcast from any country, you can choose to have how the commentators say the positions. So for example, if you played in dunedin, the coms would something like 'welcome to the house of pain, for this clash between england and new zealand. Playing at first-five-eighth today is dan carter'.

In the game itself, you'd change the text by having text changing option, like a language feature where it'd list positions by local dialectk as they'd speak english anyway.

Well, well, well look you the cat dragged in!Long time no see on the forum mate, great to see you posting again!:)

That sounds like a very nice idea for the commentary, would be a nice addition to the atmosphere of the game.

Or you could have, certain commentators in certain countries. South African in S.A.... Kiwi's in NZ,... Aussies in Aus.
It's better than picking who to have.

It has to make it to Canada, maybe a game face like EA sports has, but if not the game face, then that would be okay because, it is a big and long process, a hit stick like madden, split-screen, juke/sidestep with the R-stick, a be a pro like in Fifa 10, a franchise mode, roster updates, online, great graphics, anything pretty much in this forum has said would be great and then I would be good for another four years.

i still reckon a carrer mode would go down well. play as a s15 team and then the wallabies or something....be able to transfer players in the s15 competition...play june tests, bledisloe / tri nations etc...if this were continuous this game would be great. even the possibility to change teams, like a coach would

Yeah, Game-Face would be pretty kool, but only if 'Be-a-pro' was included.

the world league to be scrapped imo and introduce a career mode.

You start with a club of your choice, which will then play in the competitions of that team (Scarlets will play Magners League and Heineken Cup, but maybe in my first season, i will only be allowed to be in league, one of the season objectives will be to qualify for europe the next season or something??). You will start the game, like in Fifa, with a rating of half a star (out of 5), that is your reputation. you have lesser teams interested in you at the end of the season but as your reputation grows, the interest from the worlds top clubs like leicester, toulouse etc will become more prominent.

Up to you whether you stick to your club like glue or take on new challenges with different clubs.

Transfers would be awesome as well.

players let go by clubs, players wanting to move away from your club for new challenges or first team rugby.

they can really go to town on the career mode which i hope they do.

hopefully, the world cup will be similar to previous ***les, where you can either have the default squad, or make your own squad for your selected country.

Maybe a good thing is maybe if the career mode can have a loan system as well. that could be good.

I've been away for a while, but now i'm back. Mainly, i had big issues logging in, but seems to work atm!

Just another idea as well. A proper career mode where rather than have world league, you take a new player and you try to get him into a squad in the game with tryouts.. sort of like an academy. So you could be in Wasps academy and have to impress to get into the 1st XV. Sort of a mix between fifa's be a pro mode (at least the world cup version where you are in the 2nd XI to start off) and nba 2k10.. where you have to make drills and play work-outs to improve in the trial games. If you did that, you progress out of the academy and you are into the game.

Eventually, when your rating goes up, you get offers from around the teams in the game and you play a career mode until you're too old and sign for Worcester/Ospreys.

Tackling must be improved. the difference between a huge tackle and a little one should be determined by the timing of when you press the button, what angle you are coming from, the speed both players are moving at and the size of the two players.Hard individual ruck entries that influence the momentum wich could cause a counter ruck or preasure on the scrumhalf needs to be introduced, this is demonstrated in the real world by guys like Bakkies Botha ,willem alberts, jean deysel etc. Custom side steps and fends need to be introduced aswell, players like quade cooper, lwazi mvovo, shane williams , william ryder. It should be the rugby equivalent of fifas step overs and custom tricks they give cristiano ronaldo etc.

increased crowd pressence and pressure would be nice. I want to feel the difference between absa stadium and the bulls loftus. I want the crowd to increase the excitement ,pressure and noise when its the dieing minutes of a tight game.

realistic injuries- eg.If the guy takes a big hit to the ribs he can't have a twisted ankle.Blood binning of players would be nice -eg. the player has a cut on his face so he is temporeraly replaced by another player but he will return after being patched up.

Here is my wishlist (sorry if i repeat anything but this thread has a lot of pages)

- Better graphics and better camera (in the past the camera has been so zoomed out)

- The speed of the game needs to be improved. This inlcudes that speed that people kick, pass, sidestep etc.

- Improve kicking
I would like to see all arrows removed and move to a power bar like Fifa. If you put pressure on the kicker he should be more likely to shank it
Grubbers and chips need to be improved -

- Rucks need to be improved (more likely to retain the ball if you have the go forward, pass the "advantage line"))
Rucks for the past few years have been manual (press a button to enter a player), this needs to change to keep people interested. Incorporate ability to hold onto the ball in the ruck without instant penalty. The ruck is all about seeing what you can get away with. Slow the ball down in the ruck, hands in the ruck, playing the ball off your feet. Not coming through the gate to enter the ruck...
You should be able to choose whether you want to slow the ball at the ruck, some referees will ping you and some will let it go.
Urgency should be a bit part of mistakes in the ruck, if the attacking team is driven back and the attack see's an opportunity to win the ruck then all hell should break loose. There could be an urgency meter which could increase infringements such as playing ball of your feet or entering the ruck incorrectly

- Scrums
Contestable scrums!!! Scrums are a bit part of rugby and so far in the games they have been ignored.
Abilty to hit on an angle, collapse the scrum and turn the scrum
Scrums are all about gamesmanship - can you trick the ref and your opponent or will you be penalised

- lineouts
Dummy jumping, movement on the line, use analog stick to throw the ball in and call not straight balls

- Defensive and offensive plays
Ability to change attacking and defending styles and setup plays that can be used from breakdowns, scrums, lineouts etc

- Career mode
I would love to see a in depth career mode which includes internationals
Im a NZer so...
Would love to see a career that spans 4 years with the main goal to win the World Cup
You would manage a Super 15 team and play through the season
You would then choose your international team from your side and some sort of rating scheme for other teams, How well that player has played and his ranking etc.
Then after 4 seasons take your perfect team to the world cup to see if you can take world supremacy.'
You could have the same international team for 4 years or will you take on some new talent and work up the ladder etc

-online modes

- Refs shouldnt be perfect
Refs should miss things and not ping everything. This is a must!!!
This gives the ability to work the scrums, rucks etc and make things fun and tactical.
People playing the game can test the ref and learn what they can and cant get away with.
If someone penalises to much (slow learner) the ref should warn them and if they do it again send them to the sin bin

- Blood Bin
If there are big hits and injuries blood bin changes should come into play

- Professional fouls (instant yellow card if not red)

Well thats all I can think of at the moment.

dont oversimplify it
would be good if you could do clever lineout and scrum moves as well as back moves. and also if winning scrums and lineouts had some complexity to them as in real rugby
the AI is the main thing i think, getting the players who dont have the ball to pick good lines of running, take the right man in defence etc
use a trick stick feature similar to fifa to get the players to step in the direction you move the joystick, but in a less exagerated way than in previous rugby games, ie. if you pull the stick right the player takes a sharp step to the right, then have a different button for hand-offs/dipping the shoulder in the tackle, as in fifa all about timing it
passing distance should be directly related to time holding the button, not just an option of skip one, so if you hold it long enough with good passers you can pass half the width of the pitch if there is a player in a better position and if you tap it quickly it will just flick it on
a chip-and-chase style kick is needed, since the other buttons are taken for lob, punt, drop goal and grubber maybe say for example lob and L2 will give a quick chip over the top if you tap it, but if you power it up more it can be chipped into space for your oncoming backs, similar to the way the other kicks are proportional to power applied
would be good if you could use this modification in other ways 2, like x and L2 is a low spiralled punt as the likes of ronan ogara would often use, as opposed to punting over the full-back, or triangle and L2 could be used for a powerful grubber to put your winger through instead of a short grubber from the player kicking the ball
if theres anyway the physics could be more madden-like that would be great, that way the angle of running is important as players cant just swerve direction instantly if theyre wrong-footed, and the hits are more varied depending on the angle you go for the player at

oh also, some1 said refs shouldnt be perfect. please make them perfect its no way to lose a video game to ur mate.
and some1 joked bout making scrumhalf one of mauro bergamascos positions, but can you make it so that if you do put a player in the wrong position they wont be incredibly bad. like in the last game if you were to put say juan martin hernandez in at 10 and it wasnt listed as his position for some reason he would lose ability to catch the ball, they should be as good as they would be if in that position by chance. of course non-props cant scrummage tho if someone wants to play alessana tuilagi at 8 it shouldnt work out too badly for them
