Generally poor but I expected Scotland to put us under pressure and the team doesn't have settled combinations. Good to manage the player load at least I suppose but sooner rather than later we are going to drop another game because of it. Worth it in the long run I suppose.

Thought (and expected) Williams coming on made us look much more alive. Best 9 we have currently. The one position where we don't have anyone close to a world XV discussion. I suppose at least we have numerous decent options. I can think of about 7 scrum mies ahead of Hendrikse ATM. He has changed so much as a player from what put him on the radar in the first place. Pity.

Odd game though. I feel like a lot of small margins went our way. I don't understand either of the cards though.

Does anybody understand what the Scotland red card was for? Or even who was the correct player that should have received it.

My brother in law said he heard it was the lock that turned and went onto Mostert's knee but I missed it in game or any mention of it.

Mapimpi was never on side fair enough but a yellow off the bat and with play being as stagnant as it was felt harsh but it went the other way even more so so I'm not complaining.

It was a weird one, from memory
The lock looked like he tried to croc roll but wasn't successful, the Scottish 7 was also trying to clear out and fell on Mostert's lower leg but his clearout was a pushing motion that he slipped on rather than a twisting motion trying to roll Mostert out

It's like the two players combined performed a croc roll but individually neither managed it - I was surprised it was penalised let alone a red, but I guess, like with the high tackle protocols, refs probably have a flow chart that they go down and tick things off mentally and this met the criteria

They're trying to completely outlaw rolls in the ruck, because of the number of serious/career ending injuries from them, so they've outlawed rolling players with special emphasis on rolls where the guy doing the clearing out lands on the lower leg (trapping it, so that the body continues to roll over the trapped leg and ruins the players knee)

I completely get those rules, however it's such a soft interpretation they've stung him with - technically he does roll (vaguely - it's more that he falls sideways after 7 clears out Mostert), technically he does land on the lower leg, but to say this is a red card is massively over the top - if they are penalising then I'd say penalty only, because it's soft AF and looks accidental and there's clear mitigation in blue 7 hitting the ruck too, red cards should be reserved for deliberate dangerous croc rolls
The actions of 7 are more dangerous than 5, he's the one that pulls Mostert onto a trapped leg

Can only think they must have a directive from above to have an absolute zero tolerance policy on them

a) They realised they got the wrong guy (7 is clearly worse than 5) but couldn't send 5 back out and ask for 7 to come off, during the off field review process
b) They'd have given a red card if it wasn't a 20min one

If the wrong player gets sent to the bin they should have the ability to correct the mistake real time with a sin bin switcheroo and let the rest of the process run it's course. The offending team is still down to 14 for ten minutes (or longer if the card is upgraded) and it just seems better than coming up with some subjective hedge your bets decision which I highly doubt will be on any flowchart.

There was never any mention of the green nine laughing himself over the ruck from the Scottish side and landing on Cummings head.
