Church rocked by another sexual abuse scandal and the following cover up. Isn't it time people in the church started getting arrested for their role in this stuff?

The fact you prance around in a frock with a cross around your neck should not shield you when it's shown you are a morally bankrupt enabler of sexual abuse.

If they knowing covered someone's tracks or moved them due to aligations then you should be done for aiding and abetting or even joint venture

it was pretty clear how he was answering the question...film industry is huge so there is some need for film students

Really.

So what exactly do film studies graduates do in the film industry?
Was Hollywood built on a large cohort of them?

Do they design or create the sets? Nope. That's tradesmen, even architects and engineers for the big ones.
Manage the supporting businesses? Hell no.
Operate the cameras? Maybe. But they are no more qualified than Joe Public to turn a switch on and off and markedly less qualified than a optical physicist.
Special effects? Is it ___k. Film studies != graphical design or content creation

So.... what does a film studies graduate do? Maybe serve up lunch for everyone else?

The only real area that may - and I heavily stress may see some specialise useful knowledge is script writing. But the market for that is small and the competition from the likes of English literature grads.

Thousands of people ******* their future up against a wall and accruing debt a large proportion of them will never pay off.

My initial point wasn't anything to do with this to be honest. That's not what the videos I see are referring to. Arts degrees tend to quite practical in Ireland anyway, I've seen people become all sorts of professionals and other good careers with them, some with masters and others not. I guess the UK is similar and no idea about the US.

What I have seen is commentators saying business, economics etc... is a waste of time and essentially dismissing any third level education outside of medicine, healthcare and law. The idea of throwing 100,000s unskilled workers with only secondary education into the workforce each year worried me.

My take on degrees is that they are essential for some but devalued for many by their ubiquity. Just having "a degree" no longer marks you out as the exceptional as it's become the norm. How you square that off with many employers requiring them for fairly low level jobs is another matter although for most it's just the first step on a ladder after which it's down to your talent and attitude. But I don't doubt either that getting a degree inflates expectations, often unhelpfully.

Where Uni probably most helps the majority is in giving choice and forming character and self reliance. I didn't go to Uni through choice, but if I ever feel I missed out, it's largely from that kind of perspective. All 3 kids went - all are in jobs they've actively chosen and are very happy in, but only one - a teacher - actually required a degree. On the film studies thing, the son in law did a media type degree and directly uses that in his career as a sound engineer.

this is a weird hill to die on...but also entertaining to see someone so passionate about something so random

im going to go out on a limb and say the people that study film probably come up with the projects that employ all those other trades....if you put an architect, engineer, business manager optical physicist (thats a stretch as even i know there is a different between knowing how optics work and to capture a compelling image) and a graphic designer in the a room with a few million quid...a film just gets made?

no, scripts have to get written which are completely different to books, cinematography is completely different to camera operating, sounds design for films is different to music...and directing is a pretty unique skill...and there are probably load of little things that people not in the business know nothing about

do i think everyone should be doing arts? hell no, lots of people should be doing trades, lots of other should be doing sciences....but without arts we'd live in a pretty sterile world

America is beyond parody
I know someone who thinks this is all very funny, in the same way he thought Johnson was "a bit of a laugh". It's like all their idiocy can be brushed aside as a bit of a joke. Of course any little thing the left did was awful. I find the complete inability of many on the right to hold their own accountable to any degree really frustrating, there is an excuse for everything.

Can't believe I've been driving round Ireland for 2 weeks and I've not seen a single campaign picture vandalized in some way. I mean Steven Matthews is absolutely begging to have a knob drawn on his head. What gives lads?

Wickla is full of protestants who don't have it in them to!

In all seriousness, I don't know if I've ever seen a vandalised election poster, never thought about it.

I could only imagine what would happen in the UK with campaign posters like that. Probably for the best that we don't.
