I think having Joe Schmidt in charge may also be a factor. He has taken Ireland to another level in the same way Gatland has done with Wales. We'll see how good both coaches were after they leave their posts.

It's true though, I struggle to think of a match against quality opposition where Ireland had to chase and then won. If things are close in the 10pt area we can normally stay calm and catch up, but doing the 20 pt come backs like NZ, Wales and Argentina (sometimes) can is pretty much impossible for us.

glad they got penalised for going straight over the top at the ruck, because they rely on illegally not allowing the other team to compete at their rucks (every team does this, but Ireland are the best at it and make it their game plan)
