RWC: South Africa - Wales (11-09-2011, 20:30)

Well, you have to expect some fighting talk at least from the Welsh fans. What are they gonna do otherwise? Roll onto their backs and wait for a treat?

The last three games were in fact close so that does give them sustifiable hope. Off course they're gonna build their team up.

I don't know who to go for. I think SA will win, they will put on at least 5 penalties on Wales. The question is how will Wales respond, try to beat them at goalkicking or score tries? Can they can succeed at either ;)

The odds on Wales are too good, so I'll go for them.

Didn't we go over this already? The 3 games where they finished within 5 points of us were all played in Cardiff. This time they won't have the home advantage while South Africa is more used to the climate and conditions in New Zealand due to Tri Nations and Super Rugby matches

Getting a little testy, aren't we?

I think stormer2010 was just pointing out why Welsh might be justified in thinking they have a good chance of upsetting the Boks.

Yes I intentionally used the word upset, because apart from New Zealand, Aus and at a stretch France, a win over the Boks is most certainly an upset.

I was just pointing out that with three close losses (no matter the circumstances) the Welsh will of course see the positives in this and quite justifiably see their side in with a chance.

I'd be the first to be surprised should they pull it off as I don't see them going past Samoa nevermind SA.

I think it'll be a very close game, since last time Wales played SA their fitness has improved and they aint dropping off in the last 20 mins or so, if Wales keep the intensity up and get the lineout sorted they can win it, I can't see it going by more than 7 points either way tbh and the point of it being in NZ is moot, neither team is at home.. Saying SA have the advantage due to it being there is like saying if the game was played in the 2007 WC in France Wales had the advantage in terms of the ground as the players play in the 6 nations and heineken cup there..

You would also be upset if you had a little testy or 2... :D

What's with people thinking that Argentina/Australia/South Africa will have the advantage for climate, when it's well known that NZ has UK-esque weather

Loving how everyone and his dog (from SA) is completely writing off Wales as well

Yeah, I don't buy into the 'weather argument' as well. We have glorious weather in SA (that's about where it starts and stops) so going to that shithole (weatherwise) NZ is always going to be a bit of an adjustment.

While neither me nor my cat has written off Wales and I can see where a Welsh fan is coming from; apparently they are fit and disciplined; they are still underdogs by some margin and a Welsh win would be an upset.

Just because they managed to beat your English team doesn't mean they are all of a sudden world beaters..

i think all the teams will have a first-time experience of the New Zealand Weather during spring time, as it will be the first time any national team would play in NZ this time of year.

Even SA and Aus won't know that much as the tri-nations are pretty much done before September.

it's not that we are writing Wales off as such, it's just that we don't see them beating us that much :D

I'm going to try and put it this way

Welsh perspective;
- lost to SA with some narrow margins recently.
- beat England and have been looking better than in the past
- SA hasn't had the kind of results they had in 2009 recently
So, yeah, definately, we can beat SA.

SA perspective;
- the narrow WINS over Wales where in Wales
- with 2nd string teams
- finally our top players are back in the fold, some since 2009
- the two last games we played showed some signs of off form players getting back to form
It's a world cup and we know how to win.

These are of course apples being compared to oranges and will inevitably come down to bias.

I think the most telling fact is bias Welsh supporters are saying they can win while bias SA supporters are calling for a win by over 20 points. Personally i'll settle for 12.

After the Super XV and Tri-Nations he's had I wouldn't call having FdP back in the mix a good thing

South Africa's rugby team is a hellish silly and play dirty! Do not worry, just draw your leg if you translated this.

Hahaha did you use Google translate? :p it's useless at translating Welsh properly

I said: South Africa's Rugby team are very dull and play dirty! Don;t worry I'm only pulling your leg if you translate this ;)

Anyway, don't care that people are writing us off, will make it even sweeter if we do manage to pull off the win :D I'd like to think we have a chance anyway, we were a hell of a lot more clinical in the 3 warm up games than we have been in the past few years. Soaked up the pressure then took our chances when they came, just hope we can do the same on the 11th! Also have any of you guys who say SA will have an advantage weather wise actually been to Wales? Currently is is tipping it down (as per usual) as it was yesterday, the whole squad would've grown up and played a lot of their rugby career in terrible conditions, just like they'll most likely see in NZ.
Also my cat doesn't really give a sh*t who wins, so long as someone gives her food...

As a Welshman with my Ouma an oupa from Suid Afrika, Roodepoort infact , I find the arrogance of some of the South African posters here disgusting to put it frankly, completely writing Wales' chances off, as if by form of magic NZ climate is better suited and any other excuse under the sun, what's happened in the past in no imaterial, it's what shape the teams are looking now, The Tri nations haven't been special at all for Suid Afrika and that was recently, Wales have progressed a long way from the six nations, and could quite possibly have finished 2nd this year with a margin of error, their position didn't reflect how they played. Regarding the climate, Wales' climate is far more similar to that of NZ than is South Africa, it rains more in Wales than it does in most Of the competing countries, Welsh rugby season is duirng autumn/winter and spring just like it is in NZ and currently going into spring also, perfect conditions.

All's to play for, en ons sal sien my vriende, but don't be a domkop suid afrikaaners and write Wales chances of at your perril.
