Premiership Rugby 22/23 - Rd 1

Well Quins won 40-31.

Mixed opinions...certainly something work on but we HAVE to sort our defence out. It's awful.

Blamire looks half the size...he's dropped some serious weight.
To be fair, I feel pretty much the same about Quins' performance. 6 tries and a BP win on the road sounds a lot better than it actually was.

Yeah I would agree BPM...Quins were good and bad at times.

But first game still rusty. Hopefully we get some of our injured guys back soon.

Have to say is Anywanyu (have i spelt thay right) England's potential answer to 12? He's a beast and looks like he has some skill to go with the muscle.

It would be amazing if he could reach that level, but I'm not sure he will. At this stage, I'd settle for him being a good club level player/deputy for Esterhuizen. I think he can do that.

Certainly one to watch from what I saw today.
I see our young LH Brantingham got MOTM on his debut.

Yes. I thought Brantingham showed up well. I feared for him after the first scrum but after that he seemed to handle Louw very well and seemed to be working hard. Generous to give him the MOTM. I would have gone with Dombrandt.

Well, Bath picking up where they left off last year. I'm sure the guys trained very well or something.

I was gonna say it sounds like Bath have turned a corner tbh

To lose by a single stray DG, away from home, in a game you played over half of a man down (and some down to 13) - last season Bath would've been blown away

Yes Dombrandt is a class act. Needs to be England's number 1 no 8 now. He's physical and skilled. What you need in an 8

The whole "played over half a man down and sometimes down to 13" is the bit where it shows we have not turned a corner at all. Discipline still **** poor.

Maybe … a little early to judge.

I'm only going off the written reports, but apparently Annett's sending off was part of a 'melee' following a controversial Bristol try that also saw a yellow card for Sheedy. Obviously that is indiscipline, but that kind of incident is not something that's going to happen on a regular basis.

Butt's yellow sounds like it was more of a technical offence.

Could be that discipline was improved outside of those two indiscretions.

Still sounds like more positives than negatives to me, tbh - a lot of sides will come away from Ashton Gate this season with nothing/a much wider scoreline

Agreed. As you said earlier, if that had happened last season, Bath would have got mullered. To be that close in those circumstances shows some positive signs and is something to build on at the very least. Results matter but being plucky losers is a lot better than never being in the fight.

Just seen Radwan's try on the highlights, literally everything England have been lacking for some time, someone with genuine out and out winger gas that doesn't need much to make the most of.

Apparently it was Newcastle and Gloucester that voted to suspend Fridays games
