[November Tests 2016 EOYT] Ireland vs. New Zealand (05/11/2016)

Great win for Ireland they deserve it. NZ found them self in scenario were they were trailing by a big margin and i think it was new territory took them by surprise. There`s not much analisis to be done this was the 1 in 10 scenario probably.

ps. Pumas are behind England, Australia and SA. Last 2 even in the current form have more depth and overall quality than us.

Yeah, good point. I'm focussing too much on how good each team is *when they have a 1/10 probability good day*, and not on the other 9/10. Averaged over all 10/10 I would probably rank everyone... the exact same way as the WR rankings that come out tomorrow.

This is a great result for lots of reasons.
It might be a little churlish to mention this at this time but it's worth bearing in mind what a result like this means to a Bi-polar maggot like 'Kiwi' who normally haunts this forum in a variety of guises.
Where are you now Kiwi?
Hiding under the blankets like a whipped cur?
I wrote about the dangers of fatigue after a not convincing performance against Australia at Eden Park in the third Bledisloe test.
I wrote about the worry of missing both of our champion locks for the northern tour.
I have been concerned that this young transitional All Black team that lost 900 caps a year ago has had something of an armchair ride with particularly South Africa but also Australia being under par and the Pumas still finding their feet at the very top level.
Here ireland were fresh and quietly waiting in ambush with their tactics prepared and they sprung the perfect trap.
I've been saying on here, regularly, the All Blacks are human, enjoy the great run while it lasts because nothing is forever, I have been bringing up the great debacle of 1999 at Twickenham, and the disaster of 2007 in Wales at the quarter final. This loss , historically, is on a par with those rugby world shaking outcomes ... meanwhile 'Kiwi' has been espousing the very worst character traits of arrogance and dismissiveness of opponents. I sometimes wonder if he is actually a 'Kiwi' at all.
So where is he now?
Nowhere.
Gutless.
Cowardly and without a shred of honour.
Be sure to besmirch his low character and dishonourable appalling behaviour when the Hydra of Hypocrisy once again raises his malignant head, no doubt rekindled by something as momentous as a win over Italy... and shun him utterly.

Long after we are dead [...] the living memory of this
That phrasing literally killed me

Also, don't overthink trolls. There's no point discussing a troll's morality, since they don't have souls and as such morality does not apply to them. They are merely either present or absent, effective or lame. It's good when they're absent - it means a real person somewhere has a few extra hours in their life to do something worthwhile.

I was at the game, the crowd was amazing. My non rugby American friends absolutely loved their first rugby game. Everyone says you need to take your chances against the ABS and that exactly what Ireland did. We played like crappie and deserved to lose.

What a game to take them to.:)

Congratulations to Ireland and all the Irish fans.
What a glorious result for Ireland and at long last 111 years of monkey is off your back and fully deserved especially after that miracle game in 2013, where my beloved AB's stole the victory that should never have been ours.
Ireland ARE a top side. They can lift themselves to great performances. They can beat anyone and they proved it at Soldiers Field.
Joe Schmidt. A new legend is born in Ireland. This victory will never be forgotten, the history books will not allow it. Long after we are dead and buried and our children have passed on and the living memory of this result is beyond humanity, the history books will still point to Soldiers Field and say, "We did it."
Tactically supreme by Schmidt. Courageously and skilfully executed by the proud players of the Emerald Isle.
All the glory and honour is yours.
Amen.

You are a true rugby fan and a great kiwi.

At last i watched how All blacks lost.

That match was outstanding. I am NOT Irish nor NZ fan, but i really wanted to see All blacks defeat.

They are so dominant in World Rugby that it become a little boring.

Great match. NZ were good in 2'nd half but it was too late.

The rugby world will come to a standstill for the Dublin match.

If my calculations are correct, these should be the rankings when they're next updated (brackets for previous rank):

1 New Zealand (1)
2 England (2)
3 Australia (3)
4 South Africa (4)
5 Ireland (6)
6 Argentina (9)
7 Wales (5)
8 France (7)
9 Scotland (8)

Ireland deserve so much more. And South Africa so much less...

Great result for Ireland. Congratulations!! Well played. You took your chances and that's what is required against the best. Most importantly there was belief and mental strength til the very whistle. Hopefully this win does wonders for Ireland and they have a good autumn season. The Dublin fixture is going to be a real humdinger.

For the ABs. Well we got well and truely beaten. If we had those 800 or so caps of experience it could have been different finish because we fought our way back only to let go of the lead. Doesn't matter now, messed it up for our selves. Ireland played well and put us under pressure but that sort of pressure we have encountered in the past and dealt with accordingly.

We gave away possession too easily. Way too easily. At lineouts, general play too many forced passes and knock ons. We didn't allow continuity, didn't allow ourselves to get into the game as we kept giving away possession in the first half.

But this is great for World rugby. And also NZ. It allows to get our players to get their feet on the ground. I'd rather lose a match here than during the B&I series. So this is a good wake up call for the players.

It was evident. One team was much hungrier than the other. ABs made some interesting selections. It didn't quite work out for them. However I don't think it's panic stations. We need to:
1- be more direct early on
2- our first five needs to take on the line more especially against rushing defence. There was way too much side to side movement.
3- defend better at the rucks. Argentina, Australia and now Ireland have exposed us there.
4- Perenara to start, he is more physical, which is what we need in the first 50mins. Then enter Aaron Smith, he has the speed to finish off.

The game in Dublin will be a humdinger. We will see whether the ABs can stand up and return serve, as they usually do when their pride is wounded. There are a lot of players who do not know what defeat and black jersey taste like. Now they do.

Ireland deserve so much more. And South Africa so much less...

Yep, the fact that the ABs are so far ahead is what screws it up. When SA got thrashed twice by the ABs, they didn't lose points since NZ were about 10 points clear. Ireland could only gain a maximum of two points from this game, which is stupid. If the ABs had four fewer points, then Ireland would still get practically the same amount.

Just seen the result well that's a turn up for the books....wish I'd watched the match.

Also fair play to posters who haven't made this thread to chaos and posting all kinds of excuses. It's quite refreshing to read after an internal match.

My head is in tatters this morning but holy moly that was a fun ride. From now on anyone doubting the Joe Show will have their faces cut off and worn like a mask.
Holy Schmidt I'm delirah

Watched again.

1. The 8 tribute to Axel had the 4 Munster lads at front centre of it to face All Blacks. In 2001 Axel lost 40-29 to All Blacks and said it was a loss he felt should've been a W. Spooky or has his passing lit up a few lads.

2. Schmidt is great tactical guy but usually keeps it conservative. Joe yesterday you ripped it up and came up with an exciting and great plan and delivered. He did it without a full strength team too.

3. Andy Farrell. I've seen what he can do up close with Munster. People said he was a risk when appointed and could be mischief but I knew there was no risk and he has built up a genuine World class rep.

4. Murray in my eyes showed yesterday why he's the most important player to Ireland. We have it in Munster and Ireland have it too. When he doesnt play our gameplan and foundations suffer. He was super again and never plays bad vs NZ.

Always remember Lancaster beat NZ.....

I want to do my analysis but I'm too excited enen with my rather heavy head! Fair play to the NZ posters here, very gracious after a game where you must think your side underperformed badly!

1-1-27 is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, yesterday was bigger than our unbeaten year in '09, our two in a row in '14-'15, any of our provinces' HECs, Katie Taylor's gold medal, beating Italy at the Euros, Harrington's majors, McGuigan's championship fights etc... Nothing is bigger for Irish sport than wiping the darkest statistic from it.

Never beat SA or won anything like Joe though, think its time everyone accepts we've got one of if not the world's best running the show!

Can't argue with this. Maybe I'm wrong but I think what yesterday showed us is that all of the All Black's success is down to individual talent and once you snuff that out you realise that they have no real game plan. Schmidt entirely out coached Hansen that game.

Immediately in the selections you can point out some pretty major errors from Hansen. Not having 2 locks clearly showed up in the failures at lineout time. No kicker meant they couldn't really keep up (I'd be interested to see what the score would've been in Barrett was on target). Fekitoa and Moala over an in form ALB. Savea (Who arguably lost the game with his fumble and inability to kick) over an in form Dagg. Throwing Smith back in when Perenara had been playing great rugby.

Might want to see how the rest of the series goes first. Will be interesting to see how Ireland get on playing NZ in Dublin in a game they are now expected to win....
