England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson has retired from international rugby.

Good for him, you can't fault what he did for English rugby.

Yes maybe he should have stepped down awhile ago, but at least now it gives the new England team less of a head ache with those clueless about rugby calling for him in the six nations squad.

Just leaves the decision as to which two fly-halves to replace him with in the squad.

If it wasn't for the fact I just got 52 kills for only 3 deaths in Zombie mode in Halo, I'd be really bummed right now. :(

Really sad to not see him in an England shirt again. One of the greatest flyhalfs ever at his peak, and has brought so much to English rugby and international rugby.

@themite, thats just sad. Plain sad. Ur reaction that is.

Why?

Because He's "a LegendZ111!!!ONE! Of Da England!"?

Because he has a faultless gamestyle and never had a bad game?

Because he's he is the very definition of everything wrong with the sport in England?

Because there haven't been countless fly-halfs produced in this country who were ruined by him being shoehorned into a shirt ahead of them?

Because he offers the modern game anything what so ever?

Because he's actually relevant in the modern game?

Because he shouldn't have been [strike]put out to stud[/strike] sent to the glue factory years ago?

Because he's not a bit ****?

Because he does more then just sit deep and hoof the ball away?

Because you're a one-eyed fanboy who cannot even spell "Teh Mite"?

Think the run of injuries didn't help him become the player he could have been but agree with what Mite has said. The Wilko-type fly half isn't as successful in the modern game as it was 10 years ago. 2 words to back that theory up: Dan Parks. A 20th Century 10 in the 21st Century.

The game has lost a great but only a great circa 2000-2004

Thank god for that, has he finally realised that he is not good enough anymore and hasn't been for the last 8 years!

Poor choice.

Dan Parks wouldn't have been deemed a success at any stage in rugby unions history.

The Irony is Gregor Townsend was a couple of generations ahead of his time...

Will be remembered as one of the greats, and rightly so.

Better to go out now with (the majority of) his reputation in tact, rather than do a John Hayes and string it out for ever (as he'd continue to get picked regardless of form)

He did a lot for England rugby back in the day, and has done a massive amount for rugby in England in generating interest in the sport.

The knockers can do one.

St J of W has declined greatly and its high time he went but he remains a legend of the game for the quality of his all round game at its peak, his professionalism, his modesty, the way he clawed back from injury after injury to serve his country and that kick alone.

I am happy to be moving into the post-Jonny era in terms of who we put on the pitch but it is still a sad day.

I always liked Jonny a very modest and sometimes great player, he also seems like a sound man. One of the closest examples to the "Perfect Professional'' in my opinion.

he hasn't fitted well into this England side since after the 2007 World Cup really, but at his best he was one of the best players of all time and was very good at the 2003 and 2007 World Cups (a lot of people forget the latter), I think he has made the right decision to stop now as another year or two really would tarnish his reputation as Olly correctly says

off the field he is a very intelligent guy and I'm sure will get a token job as a commentator (I hope not though as his interviews are some of the most boring) or perhaps coach when he stops playing

what? :huh::huh::huh:

that is wrong, name the fly halves who have been "ruined" by him being there,

in fact this came up before once and all you could come up with was Geraghty, who couldn't even keep Myler out of the Northampton side

@Teh Mite , I challenge you to find one nice thing to say about Wilkinson and remember a good match he played

Just saw something crazy, has Wilkinson really on scored 6 tries in his 91 caps?

Thought he would have reached at least double figures, 10 man rugby 'n all that ;)
