in regards to "any other 10 would have done the job" see below

also I believe Stephen Jones ran away from a drop goal v France in the SF, and New Zealand did too in the 2007 QF
Actually, I said
don't feed me ******** how "only 1 person would land a drop goal like that"

By that response however, O'Choke is the greatest ever? Yeah?

Cannot be bothered anymore. You obviously worship at the shrine that is Dan Carter and you are entitled to it. Good bye

Don't salk because people have different opinions...

Everything I have said I have backed up, which is the difference between you and me.

I compare him to Carter as he's the best going. If I compared him to Willie Repia, what would that serve?

Ãœber fan boy alert.

Mind you are the one that made the statement that Wilkinsom had guided his team to two world cup finals, yet Carter hadn't one, conveniently ignoring the latters absence due to injury.

OK when did I say CArter was not a good player? This all started when someone wrote that Wilkinson would not have been as good without the likes of Richard Hill in the team. This is correct rugby is a team game fly halfs can do nothing without good forwards thats why I used the Carter/McCAw example. Carter is a great attacking fly half, this is helped greatly by the amount of turn over ball provided by one of the greatest opensides in the game, is that not true? You took the example I used as some sort of slight againt Carter, is was not.

You obviously dont rate Wilkinson and thats fine its your opinion but you make out that he had no attacking game at all. Which is frankly daft given he played fly half (one of the 2 key play making positions) in the best England team of all time and Graham Henry rated him so much he played in the as the Lions test 10 when he was barely out of his teens. As for that try in 2002 and your statement that the all blacks were not defending correctly...well isnt the sign of a good attacking player when he can spot oppotunities like that?

For some reason Wilkinson does divide opinion, people like Lord hope dont like him because hes from Surrey, scored lots of points against Scotland and the English press bang on about him alot, you dont like him because.... well I dont know but I have never known such hostility towards a quiet, professional, humble bloke whos only crime was score the winning drop goal in the last minute of a world cup final.

Where have I said that I do/ do not like him?

And I wouldn't say that he has divided opinion, just that some can accept that his attacking game is/ was limited at times, and specific instances need be brought up to defend his abilities by those who think he is an all-rounded player and is hence above criticism (which is ot always a negative thing).

And then there are those who are of type one, that have used the situation quite effectively to wind the type 2s up

Who said I don't like him? As a person I have no problem with him at all, as I mentioned in my first post, I think he was very good at doing what he did/does. I also think that he was a vital cog in England executing the gameplan that they did (I related that to Morne Steyn in 2009). But despite this, I still don't think he was a very well-rounded 1st 5/8th and that his style of play in many ways limited England when they no longer had that rock solid platform of 2003.

If we're sticking with "Great players are beyond criticism" approach that some people are taking on this forum, I don't expect to hear another bad word about Tana Umaga, 2005.

Picked an odd time to make the announcement. The middle of the international off season and after the start of the Top 14.

Interestingly it was made a couple of days before the announcement that his contract with Toulon was being extended. Maybe there's a link somewhere there?

Not that odd - the England team for the 6N is announced in a few weeks so it's basically him taking his name out of the running

You sure like putting words in people's mouths don't you!

He supposedly wasn't in the running anyway - Non-England based players no longer getting picked as of now.

Stuart Lancaster has done away with that - he said he'd pick English qualified players from anywhere in the world, if they were deserving of their place (which arguably rules out Wilko anyway)
