Ireland vs Australia

Okay so 20 - 20. What does this tell us?

The divide between North & South isn't as wide as it was 18 months ago...

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED???

Ireland look very dangerous when they click, so I'm happy considering they didn't have a match together in 6 months.

Scrum is still shite. ROG did play fairly well to be fair.[/b]

If being the man who had a helping hand in both Australian tries is playing fairly well than we must have a different definition.

Shush you. I'm still all for Sexton starting of course.

Love the abuse that Hook gets about Tommy Bowe after each match.

Obviously I'd have loved O'Gara to prove us all wrong and have a stormer but we have to stop kidding ourselves now. Dropping a goal to win a slam shouldn't guarantee anyone a starting place.

Positives from today is that the lineout was solid, major negative was the scrum, was bound to be though considering that Flannery and Hayes have played so little rugby plus Flannery isn't the best of scrummagers to begin with, thought the support from the second row wasn't up to much either.

Healy really showed what he was made of in the loose and a major positive from his point of view was that his penalty count wasn't colossal either.

Scrum is improving every game with alexander at tighthead which is encouraging. Has the irish scrum always been that bad?[/b]

Em....for the last 10 years or so yes. Can't remember before that but presumeably yes before that aswell.

Healy was decent enough in the scrum for a just turned 22 yearold loosehead. Basically we need a decent tighthead (no disrespect to Hayes of course who's a legend).

Have just caught the last bit of Kidney's interview on RTÉ, what did he say about Luke?

I think thatr whenever an inter hemisphere match like this is on, to stop natural bias the referee shouldn't be from either the Northern or Southern hemispheres...[/b]

What a load of ****. kaplan is biased towards australia!?!?!
get refs from mexico you reckon?

I was very disappointed that England flogged the oppurtunity to defeat the weakest Tri-Nation side last week. If I was Irish, I'd be very disappointed.

If you win a Grand Slam, you must look to beating the SH teams. That's how you establish yourself at the top for a long period of time, not just another one-off team who can make it click in the Spring.

Ireland had a golden oppurtunity to lay down a mark. The Welsh managed it last year. As it is, this only highlights the difference between the British sides and SH. That was the 6N best at home against the 3N weakest, and it was a draw. If the French could concentrate for any succession of matches, they'd deservedly be the best side in Europe.

Meh, we played cack for 50ish minutes and actually improved in the last 20 or 30 mins which is a change. Disappointed with the result, relieved to get it though. Still undefeated in '09 I do believe. Scrum was poop, Cian Healy for president and Sexton at asap. That is all.

Yeah kiss the whole "scrum is improving" thing goodbye because your Argentinian scrum doctor Noriega? He's going to Argentina next year.

Say goodbye "improving scrum" and hellooooo to being pwned by Sheridan, "The Beast", Gethin Jenkins,Allan JAcobsen, any Georgian Prop, any Argentine prop, Nicolas Mas, Castrogiovanni...

You mean Kearney for the second try? Dreadful up and under gave Auz possession inside 10m line, and he shouldered Elsom in the corner when he should have tried to wrap up the ball.

Fairly good going from Ireland. Both teams have plenty of variation and know when to mix it up.

Wondering how the scrum can improve, although I don't think SA will put on as much pressure if they stick with the props who started against France. SA should kill us at the breakdown.

Wallace offers nothing at 12 apart from kicking. I guess it's fair to say his distribution made BOD anonymous. Bowe had an interesting game, might have had three tries - but Shane Horgan would have scored them all. Hehehe!

I think Aus have great prospects.

Australia have Always been above us in the rankings, so you know what, I’ll take that. Aus were already battle hardened with New Zealand and England, you could tell Ireland hadn’t played together for SIX months in the opening period of the game and you saw how we dominated in the last quarter. Ireland will be much stronger and determined come the Boks. Also Healy is God.

One good thing in this game.

Polota-Nau: best surname. Ever. Sounds like an Indonesian stirfry...our Afrikaan's lolcat loves it:

No I meant O'Gara, he stepped out of the line and Pocock just waltzed through in the early buildup, stop that at source and there's little chance of a try being scored.

I think you're being harsh on O'Gara. He kicked his goals, his tactical kicking and passing were fine and he showed invention with a couple of quick tap penalties.

Overall, the scrum was shite which can in part be put down to an excellent Aussie frontrow and lack of Irish match fitness. Most worrying was the fact that we were destroyed at the breakdown.

that's all well and good but it doesn't excuse the fact that he screwed up twice and it cost us and as for the RTÉ panel saying the O'Gara Sexton debate was done and dusted after today was utter crap. It was certainly an improvement on what we've got for the last 2 years but was far from being one of his best performances either.

i thought P.Wallace did himself proud today, threw a few nice passes. But he doesn't have the defence that Darcy has. Thought O'Gara was ok. just ok mind, would like to have seen what Sexton would have done. I would be suprised if he would've played up to the standard his form suggests against such quality opposition, like Healy in the scrum. But maybe thats an unfair comparison. REALLY need to sort out the breakdown, anybody have any suggestions?
