Ireland vs Australia

You know what ROG's nickname is in Argentina?

Ronan No Ganar or "Ronan doesn't win"

Well... Forgetting the pass which handed Oussie a try on a platter within the first 3 minutes...

If I was Irish, I'd be very disappointed. If you win a Grand Slam, you must look to beating the SH teams.[/b]
Totally agree, but given the headstart we gave them, and the rather pathethic way we played for most of the first half, I was kinda content in the end. Not happy, just content.

That was the 6N best at home against the 3N weakest, and it was a draw[/b]
No it wasnt. It was the 2nd best team in the 6 nations, we all know that. While I agree we should be dissapointed to have drawn, its not as simple as you set out. It was our first run out all year and our front row hadnt played a game in 5-6 weeks. Not an excuse just a factor. On the other side of it, if that game went on another 5 or 10 minutes there would only be one winner and the Irish were the only team trying to play rugby.

Thats why I'm not completely pished off. We actually improved as the game went on.

Both teams served up far better fare than the crap we saw from every other team on Home Nations soil this weekend. I think Ireland were the better team and came into it a bit cold, but the australian team is obviously on the rise rather than on the wane like BOD and Co.

We should play the six nations in the autumn and the SH teams in the spring, I say.

I wouldn't exactly say we're on the wane really. Sure when BOD goes we'll have a job replacing him, the same going for Wallace, Hayes and O'Connell but we have quite a good group of young players eg. O'Leary, Healy, Best, Fitzgerald, Kearney, Earls, Sexton, Heaslip etc.

I'm disappointed. we handed them a try on a silver platter inside the first 3 minutes, it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Ferris's trademark aggression at the breakdown was absent, and the scrum was awful.

Kaplan was very poor. Not biased or anything just very poor. Palu yellow card was harsh but in real time I thought it was a yellow too in fairness, but someone should tell him people go to games to watch rugby, not to see him play a tune on that damn whistle.

Both teams went out and tries to run the ball but with him blowing up anything that could possibly lead to an infringement except for offside during the kicking tennis, it was encouraging negative rugby.

Our best player was O'Connell, Australia's best was Pocock. I though Paddy Wallace did well, will be a good option for games when we want to play an open, running game.

ROG out. it was his best performance of the season so far, and I'd still only give it 6/10.

But maybe thats an unfair comparison. REALLY need to sort out the breakdown, anybody have any suggestions?[/b]
This is the main worry. I think the Aussies were just faster around the park in a unit. Think about it - BOD didn't get a single turnover as far as I could see, and that's stock in trade for him, so it wasn't just the backrow slouching around the place.

Solution? Get there quicker!

They wouldn't have gotten a grand slam anyway. They don't play France and Italy. ;)

They would have gotten an... er... quadriple crown?

It'd be difficult to get a "Grand Slam of the Home Nations" if you have to play and beat Italy and France as well as the Home Nations England, Scotland and Wales.

Because then it wouldn't be called a "Grand Slam of the Home Nations" then, would it?

Do you see where I'm coming from here? :)

I enjoyed the game, except for the bit where some Irish brute pushed the very groggy Digby Ioane into a ruck as he was walking along the Irish side with no idea where he was, the only excuse for that is the Irish chap was showing Digby where his side is.

Your right, I mean he could well have died!

Australia are really building if you ask me. The worst is over for them and with an average age of 23, they are building a team for the next two worldcups.

Oh and Pocock is awesome. How in gods name has he got 13 ish caps already. Talk about playing way too much international rugby!

Lads sick of this crap about ROG!!! After a bad start to season he really had good game today.

Today was probably his best kicking game from hand in past year and he kicked goals perfectly.
And while ROG was at fault for 1st try BOD was equally at blame (as he admitted himself) but wouldn't slam either as today was Ireland at their most creative in years in terms of they tried things and were expansive.

Marcus Horan I still doubt will ever play for Ireland again due to condition but Healy really showed he can hack the standard.

As for slating our front row I thought The Bull and Flannery were very good for 2 guys that seriously lacked match fitness and Hayes lifting power is so vital to our team.

And thought Earls played well when coming on if Luke is fit hope he goes to 12 and Earls to 11.
