Ireland Squad for North American Tour

Monahan's been good for Glaws, not stand out but useful looking, and he offers something different to Ireland in that he'd be the biggest Irish winger. I don't think either has more potential than the likes of O'Halloran, O'Dea or Allen though.

I only saw him when he started battering into BO at the end of the game last thursday, he looked handy enough.

Conor George is the worst journalist in the world. I **** you not. Take absolutely everything he says with a grain of salt.

Snoop agree and I really think Paddy Jackson will be odd 1 out eventually. Losing will move to 10 with Marshall at 12 long term IF Marshall gets consistent fitness

Possibly. I suspect he's ranked behind Robbie Henshaw, Gavin Duffy, Felix Jones, Dave Kearney and Andrew Conway as a fullback though. Longer term he'll jump a long way up that queue.

Stuart Olding is doing his chances of touring no harm at all tonight. He's developing really well as a 2nd 5/8.

If Schmidt ends up coaching for the tour I'd take him otherwise no. Probably more beneficial playing more games including one against the Baby Blacks. Someone like Hanrahan could benefit from involvment though Georgia may be more suited for him.

If not a few more, yeah, but as you say long term he should jump and he's playing well, hence me suggesting him for the emerging mob.

@Peat and big ginger 8
You've both raised a good point about Olding perhaps benefiting more from touring with the u20s than with the full squad this summer. I can see the logic to it. The Baby Blacks three quarters are probably of a higher standard to the USA and Canada. Given Ireland only have an interim coach in place, it's not as though he'll be showcasing his talent in front of the national coach.

Despite that, I'd still bring him with the full national team. If he only plays for the u20s, subconsciously he'll still believe he's behind the other options. A full cap will spur Olding on and have him competing as an equal with Luke Marshall next season. He won't settle for being in and out of the Ulster squad in future once he's earned international honours.

Back to tighthead woes, Ricky Lutton has acquitted himself well for Ulster of late. He could tour somewhere this summer.

Snoop I sure Lutton will go somewhere as amount of TH's will be tight and been fair Ross should be told go away on holidays as he's been used to limit this season and there no need to flog him completely.
Prob Archer and Bent to US
Lutton and Hagan to Emerging
Add in Nathan White too. Really there should be 6 all together

That's a good point.

Yeah Lutton has looked good would be in my emerging squad probably unfairly as he already looks better than Archer.

Question in the Emerging Squad will the likes of White be allowed play.

Correct me if wrong, but there's no caps for the North America tour? Olding's ego should be able to spur him on anyway. Although, McSharry's meant to be missing it, so maybe it makes sense... I'm not that fussed either way mind tbh, he's a useful looking player who'll represent his country in some way all being well this summer, and ergo I'm pleased for him and his coaches.

As for Lutton, he's doing everything right, early days in his pro career but looks like there's something there. Already prefer him to the Chocolate Fireguard tbh.

White would qualify 2014 judging from wiki.

@Peat
The NA tour is capped as far as I know.

Do you know anything about Lutton? I read that he moved back here from NZ but know nothing about him. If he has something about him, he could easily push ahead of Declan Fitzpatrick who can't seem to stay healthy.

Not asked of me but all I know or think I know about Lutton is that he's a player who was in the club system and normally a loosehead but recently been working a lot with Ulster and converted to tighthead which if as recent as I'm making out is very impressive.

Not a huge amount - played for Oxford Uni, played in New Zealand, came back a bit ago and impressed while playing for Belfast Quins, got his break from there. I was under the impression he was a loosehead when he signed as well.

Two Rotherham players have been invited to an Ireland national training camp. Will probably mean that they will be in the squad to play in Georgia perhaps? I'm surprised I would have thought that the Championship would have been off the radar for the Irish coaches.

We tend to ignore players outside of Ireland completely. Surprised by this but it's a positive step. McKinney is a form u20 10/12 who by all acounts is coming back to Ulster next season is a good player I'd have thought we have enough 10's for going to Geogia but maybe they see Hanrahan as a 12 more than a 10 anyway will likley be cover. Than Sheridan is someone who played for Leinster for a while but could never really break through and had a number of injuries. However he's still young (23) and is something most Irish backs aren't, massive he's 6'4" and 108kg. Has also been signed by L.I. for the coming season.
