Wallabies name 26-man squad for UK tour

I'd feel stupid for insisting with Cooper during the World Cup, I'd feel stupid for playing two defensive centres against a team they would've had to attack dangerously to win a spot in the final. I'd feel stupid for not playing Higginbotham over Elsom as well....

Yes indeed, how Higgenbotham didn't make the team still confuses me lol. Had such a great super15 and seemed to bring that form across the international scene.

The big problem Higginbotham has is that Australia has plenty of quality wings ;)

To be fair Elsom isn't that much better, but if Higginbotham wants to play international rugby he's going have to tighten up his game a huge amount, otherwise Australia will be trying to compete with only 7 forwards.

That is true. You can find him on the wing an awfull lot trying to ''chipkick'' and generally doing stuff a 6 shouldn't :p.

Btw this is the wrong thread for this but seeing you're a Highlanders fan how will J.Haskell fit in there?

Don't know. He's certainly got the right style of play for Super Rugby, but I'm not sure the Highlanders are the best fit for him. The Highlanders already have a quality 6 (Thomson), and 8 (Manu), but lack a quality 7, so I'd imagine Haskell will probably get plenty of time in the 7 jersey. In my opinion Haskell is better suited to 6 or 8 (rather than 7) - I'm sure he will do well in the 7 jersey, I just don't think he will be as effective as he possibly could be.

darwin - seen it suggested that Highlanders have bother poor squad depth, and that Haskell might spend a lot of time being rotated with the names mentioned. Any likelihood ot that?

To a large degree that is true of our loose forward depth. I think Manu started every game last season at 8, and Thomson started in every game that he was fit - it was noticeable that by the end of the season both of these players were fatigued. Outside of Thomson, Manu and Haskell the Highlanders loose forward quality drops off noticeably in my opinion: Tiejtens and Hardie (our 7's) are solid ITM Cup players but are unproven at Super Rugby level. Dixon (our primary 8 cover) is a promising young player, but again lacks experience at this level. Nick Crosswell (our 6 cover) is a good hard-working player, but is probably not dynamic enough to be anything more than a journeyman at Super Rugby level (and it sounds like he may be playing quite a bit of lock this season).

I'd suggest out top trio would be 6. Thomson, 7. Haskell, 8. Manu, but I would expect Haskell to probably start 1-2 games at both 6 (if/when Thomson is rested/injured) and 8 (if/when Manu gets rested/injured).
