France vs Afrique du Sud

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet ?

I believe France deserved the win, they were definitely the better team on the night, they did all the playing, we did all the scewing up, so no worries from me (apart from that we need to get our **** sorted out).

But seriously, I'm going to say this only once, Adi Jacobs is a -****- center, every single time, -every- single time he got the ball he ran straight into a bunch of French players and got turned over, it happened at least 5 times, so often we got a promising attacking move going and Adi screwed it up, I don't want to ever see his silly face in a Bok jersey again, no matter how good his bloody running game can be.

Peter de Villiers says the FFR has disrespected the Springboks while several players have described the singing of their anthem as a "shocking joke".

The French rolled out a trio of reggae stars to sing Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika, and what followed was a complete mockery of South Africa's national anthem. De Villiers didn't say it cost the Boks the Test, but he was notably upset with what amounted to an insult.

'We are most annoyed that they would disrespect our national anthem,' the Bok coach told keo.co.za. 'To get someone who doesn't know the words or how to sing the anthem is not respectful.'

Captain John Smit was unavailable for comment on Friday night because of mandatory doping tests, but vice-captain Victor Matfield admitted the singer's performance was disruptive.

'It's a special moment at the start of every test, and it's when we really like to get fired up. But it was a joke [on Friday]. You couldn't sing and even the crowd started to laugh.'

This website also caught up with Heinrich Brussow after the Test who spoke of the anthem situation as shocking. 'You have to feel for a guy like Wian du Preez who was standing with the Springboks for the first time. Now he has to remember the anthem like that.'

Bok centre Jaque Fourie said France deserved to win on the day, but was also disturbed by the botching of the anthem.

'Shocking,' he offered. 'I don't know where they got that guy from, he didn't even know the words.

'We can't really do anything about it, and I don't know if anyone else will do something about it, but it was very disappointing to hear.'[/b]

I'll be buggered if I could see why kankowski was sent off btw.[/b]
Blatant hands on the floor, stopped a try being scored. He wasnt the tackler. Definate yellow.

Contrary to the bandwagon that's forming that labels SA as a "one trick kicking side", I thought that when they were actually presented with opportunities, the backs looked quite dangerous.[/b]
I agree. I saw that too, and I'm not taking the **** (seriously) but it was on 67 mins yeah? So surprised was I to see the ball move through the backline without a kick that I actually looked at the clock. 67 mins.

Agree there too but he was unfortunate. He actually made a bit of progress and got isolated. I thought he was the only attacking threat you had in the backline, but as the rest of the team werent expecting any of your backs to run with the ball, they didnt bother supporting.

France were very impressive up front, but they must learnt to do that to EVERY team, in the same way that South Africa have for years and years. It looks like Lievremonts experiements may be starting to bare fruit.

As for the Anthems. It was cringeworthy stuff and to be honest its poor form for any host fail at it so miserably. Its not an excuse for the Boks, if anything it should have inspired anger, but the French should ensure it doesnt happen again. Having said that, the Boks cant complain.

Ok, de Villiers is using the anthems issue as a deflection from the fact his side lost. I hate when people do this. Gatland = Carter high tackle. Henry = forward pass. Lions = Dirty Bok players.

It's a pathetic habit that, along with pre-match bullshit (Gatland cough) is creeping in from Football. Hate it.

One thing i noticed by the French last night, which probably won them the match was, due to the physicality and numbers they put into the breakdowns, the ball was hardly ever on the deck for long. this prevented Broussow doing his thang and stealing ball left right and centre and gave good qucik ball for the backs. Also class hands by the tight 5. Compare the likes of Barcella who looked dangerous with ball in hand to the likes of, i donno, say John Hayes who looks panicked and runs into the nearest opposing player. Those facets of the French that won them the game are the things the irish team must emulate. I fear the win by France will do Ireland no favours.

Agree completely, the skills showed by the French forwards were superb. Also how big is a second row of Millo-Chusky and Nallet with Chabal on the bench? Damn.

Here Lievremont laid his cards on the table when he announced last week that fraternity and solidarity into breakdowns was a key point he wanted les bleus to be strongly engaged on

You just don't get it. Dupuy, Leicester, last 30 mins. That's all you need to know.

France could have destroyed SA tonight, but when the enemy was at its weakest Dupuy didn't stick the knife in. Good player, but not a great player. Lievremont replaced him at the right time.[/b]

No, you just don't get it.

All I need to know is Dupuy, great French backline, fantastic open rugby by the French, France 20 - 13 South Africa.

He was replaced late in the game as well so what that has to do with anything I'll never know. Dupuy ran his forwards well and produced quick ball for a set of backs who ran the Boks ragged for 60 odd minutes. What more did you want him to do? Tell the rest of the French squad to take a break and fight South Africa by himself.

Still waiting for some evidence regarding the Premiership by the way ;)

On a side note, well done to the organizers for rigging that match. Who the F*uck's idea was it to get that drunk black hobo to sing our anthem? It was horrific, and he didn't know the words. It was disgusting, and a very sneaky way to make sure we are not in any way motivated to play. How the hell are you supposed to show emotion when your anthem gets sung by a mountain goat? Seriously uncool.[/b]
Best excuse ever.

Also, I don't think I've ever heard a decent rendition of your national anthem...
[/b][/quote]

Yeah, Brus from Bok-land, I have to agree with Sir Speedy. Listening to people singing the South African national anthem is like gathering a herd of Stephen Hawkings together and having all of their monotomous, robotic voices sing in one awful cacophony. For the band, all you need are 20 stylophones playing vaguely in time and there you go! South African National Anthem!

This is a stylophone by the way:

I agree that the choice of Ras Dumisani wasn't the best that could be made...
I propose that for the next match of France in South Africa he comes and play the french anthems in a reggae style :banana-doob: :music2: :hellomybrotha4oq:

I'm already out...

A reggae style Marseillaise already exists : Serge Gainsbourg made it

I think De Villiers is wrong when he said FFR was disrespectful towards the anthem : the singer was chosen by the South African ambassy in France...
It's right it was pitiful but don't blame the French for that.

Speaking of music and De Villiers, I was wondering that as I stood there last night at the end of the game staring at PdV with the face of a one smacked with a kipper, why I suddenly heard this in my head:

I was in the Bok Bar in Covent Garden (SORRY JUAN BUT I WAITED AN HOUR AND MISSED KICK OFF!!!12121) and were surrounded by lots of very drunk and angry 7ft tall Boers and I couldn't stop laughing. I had already almost gotten myself killed by suggesting that Morne Steyn was a one trick pony but this one huge guy turned and said "Oi, bru, what de fyuk is your problem, ja?!"

"Why do I hear clown music whenever I see Peter De Villiers..."

He stopped, thought for a moment and then smiled wryly.

"That is him thinking out loud, ja?!"

We all laughed, he had tears in his eyes...

Well, might have it been pitiful, it has so, I would have been embarassed if I was the FFR and had to justify this choice, but the problem is not if this one comes from the SA embassy...

Hard to define if this choice had been now a real disadvantage for entering the match, as it could also have been taken as a provocation and produce a reverse effect of mobilisation and motivation.

To tell a bit about Serge Gainsbourg, his experience after he wrote the subversive version of La Marsellaise. This one had been received as a real provocation by a big part of the population in France, in a quite conservative regime period. On his tour Gainsbourg came to sing in Strasbourg city hall in which the first raws had been booked by a scadron of military parachutists. He didn't chicken out and sang it before he did it a capella in his historical version (with soldiers standing at attention !!) and then entered a surealistic dialogue...

I reckon this is a more appropriate track:

Can't recognise the song from that version - what's the point? Should have got Weird Al Jankowich to have a crack.

I read a story that said some Jamaican guy totally butchered the South African national anthem to the degree the SARFU made a complaint. Haha anyone got a link?

Matfield and Botha : “the anthem affected our performanceâ€

This is the most pitiful and laughable excuse ever heard in the world of rugby union, they were 13-3 up against the French after 30 minutes and then conceded 17 unanswered points.

How the hell after a 30 minutes high intensity game can they still be thinking about this anthem???

They lost because they played crap and French were better, and they did not play crap because of the anthem.

Ok for whatever reason, the Saffa selected to sing the Anthem was stoned but so what ????

The most ridiculous excuse ever..... I thought winging was a Pom dish but obviously there is a south african version.
