However pressured Wales are to win this and avoid a soon-to-be double-digit losing streak, and hence, however well they play and wtvr intensity they bring this time around; it is still clearly a good sign of failure if France lose this one.

If Wales wins, we may look back at this tournament and for the fresher memories ppl would say "well Italy played amazingly at home and Wales played their hearts out to stop the bleeding", while others will just see this: France finally strings 4 victories together, including impressive ones in November, to then start with a LOSS IN ITALY, followed by A LOSS AT HOME AGAINST WALES....

This is a defining moment for France, and a big test for Wales.
But no excuses: France needs to win this. It's a must win for France...
And I don't like our captain Papé being out just now.......:s

All I can say is "Dam you Italy"

I feel France will be so up for this after last weekend we could be in trouble.

If Wales turn us well could be a real humdinger, but I am worried.

^ hahahaha !!...it's hilarious to me that in my mind I'm trying to find good examples to balance the "French inconsistency" argument, that sure we do have a problem few other teams have but still we have patterns elsewhere of strong consistency....and then I read up a comment like that one, and it tooootally makes sense to me, I just know that is truly, realistically the way France functions !...

it's either this one, or in England two weeks later...but there's a rebound in the making surely...

Please let it be England, please let it be England. As much as I wish I fear the worst, France by 18 points in the first half and Wales by 7 in the second.

^
Man I'm seriously sorry !! I seriously wish Wales would win and stop that terrible bleeding since last June, but I love my French XV too much !! I've got to hope France manage a win...even if it takes another spear tackle from Warburton, red card and a shitty French-performance-but-still-victory !! :D

On the much brighter side of things for Wales: the Lions are going to devour Australia this summer, but more imminently you've got two interesting matches in Rome and MurrayF, and then are hosting England...not bad huh ?! Should be a bunch of fun, all 3 of those. And plus, this (very thread) may very well be the match you finally salvage your honor !...but we lost in Millennium last year, and we've got a bit of a revenge to take this year in Paris !!!

I have recently introduced my best friend to rugby and even tho he is a "roast beef" (English) :D, he 100% supports the French rugby team now! On Sunday he could not believe that the team that he saw beat Argentina(twice), Australia and Samoa so convincingly a few months ago loose to Italy!! I then said "welcome to the Roller coaster ride that is the life of a France supporter!! Amazing, glorious victories one week and ridiculous shameful losses the next!"
Saying all that I don't think it was a shameful loss on Sunday! Italy played sooo well! I'm really happy for them and hope they cause an other upset this tournament!

Nailing all the proper cliches along the way

I don't think we allow for "shameful" losses. We pull off strictly impossible upsets, nobody questions that, but then we allow "silly" losses. Very, very silly losses that never ever should be possible given our team on paper.
I'm not ashamed of the Tonga loss, just very annoyed we let it happen and constantly constantly underestimate/not play with heart...

But anyways: this match SHOULD (may very well NOT) be the most intense match of the weekend...of course the other two should be monster spectacles too !!

Too many objective reasons for the defeat at home to not expect it...
To come back on Ouedraogo I reviewed the match to focus on line out and our performance in that game aspect was just terrible...not saying this is Fulgence's fault but if he was taken above Nyanga for that specific reason then it didn't obviously make sense.

What is funny is that this amazingly shows how we can be inconsistent as we've been weak in defense, line out and scrummaging which were the positive aspects of our game last autumn.

...well, are you asserting your prediction there ? You'd bet money on Wales they'd win ?

Objective reasons, well what are they ?!
what, bad selection/bench guys who should be starting...etc, all that ?

I already listed in detail, even before Italy's match, what I thought of that team. I was wrong about Italy's match result, but right about that 'bad feeling' I have since PSA gave his selection and the weaknesses.

I don't feel this is just a matter of confidence, that may have us do a very bad performance followed by a fair one. I think the main issue is physical condition, and there's nothing they can do against this. Look, we already have one major player injured, so things will not improve as time goes by...

That always makes me mad to read the journalists' comments of the like: "ok the team will physically improve with the succession of matches". Wait, if they become good for the last 2 matches it is too late !!.

When for God's sake will we get the team ready for the first FIVE matches this is what I'm wondering...

^ oh ok, those objective reasons !...
Well yeh, nobody will contradict you on those points...
but of course that "journalist argument" you mention is partially true. At this point, we're basically WITHIN, or "inside" the tournament just like all the others...We've got a week to regroup, just like the others. The first match is the one that really makes a difference for us, having just a few days VS two weeks for the other 5 sides...

Rumours flying round that Tips will play 7, Warbs 6 and Hibbard back as Hooker, Shingler out the 23 entirely, everyone else - as was.

Sounds pretty good... tough on Shingler though, as it makes it look like they've lost faith in him, where really having tips and warbs was the right call all along.

Well Shingler had a rough game, and that is the back row we should have seen. So no issues from me

Shingler is a tough one. He's a great player, but I find it difficult to see where he fits into the current Welsh team. He's great in open play, but when we consider the best options at 7 and 8 currently being Tipuric and Faletau, they already have the open game covered. At the moment we simply have to have someone to do the donkey work on the blind, and Shingler doesn't fit that role. Lydiate, Ryan Jones and Warburton are better fits, and but for his lack of experience, so is Navidi who's been outstanding in an ordinary Blues team this season. Warburton may not be turning ball over like he has been in the past, but his work rate is still high and his tackling game is based around that of Lydiates (the tackle on Tuilagi last season being a prime example).

It all means that unless Shingler develops his tight game, or the balance of the Welsh back-row shifts, Shingler might find it difficult to fully break into the starting 15.

With regards to the probable team selection, it's what I was expecting. I'd have gone for Paul James at 1, but I'm not overly upset with Jenkins starting. I would have liked to see Phillips dropped to the bench as well, but considering the noise coming out of the camp about how useful the French connection might prove, I can understand why he's still there. Regarding the centres, I just hope Davies cuts the errors out and Roberts gets more involved. With Walker not fit yet, the back three was always going to be unchanged, and rightly so. The only change they could have made in the back three would be to bring Byrne in at fullback, but Halfpenny is developing nicely there, so leave him be.
