France v Ireland

It's excellent news. While McLaughlin has been good for Leinster, he's not in Stephen Ferris' (or even Denis Leamy's) class just yet.

The Ireland setup is beginning to get a lot younger. Of the backs, the back three have another 7 or 8 years as a unit together, Sexton has another decade at a high level, O'Leary will be around for another 5 years and then there's Luke Fitzgerald, Andrew Trimble and Fergus McFadden along with wunderkinds like Andrew Conway, Tiernan O'Halloran and Brendan Macken. Cian Healy, Rory Best, Donnacha Ryan, Jamie Heaslip, Stephen Ferris and Sean O'Brien can anchor the pack well into this decade and there's a truckload of talented kids in their late teens/early 20s. It makes a pleasant change to the Eddie O'Sullivan era of an ageing XV and nothing else to support it.

Perhaps Rory Best could be a stop gap but I've a suspicion that Jamie Heaslip or Stephen Ferris will fill the role.

Last year the "team leaders" were BOD, POC, ROG and Best, but I'd have Ferris as next in line if BOD goes down personally.

The Ireland team has been confirmed with Stephen Ferris passed fit. Sean O'Brien remains on the bench as Kevin McLaughlin drops out of the 22. Johnny Sexton is fit to take his place on the bench as Andrew Trimble also drops out of the 22.[/b]
So our backs on bench are Wallace Sexton and Reddan. I happy with that as I think Paddy deserved to remain in 22.
Also McLaughlin can keep his head held high as he is a smashing player and despite been out of 22 it because of Tactics not his performances but glad Ferris is back.

But Leinsterrock I guessin Rory Best young enough to captain when they gone and then Kearney, Tommy or Luke Fitz are names (based on experience) that will probably inherit the role. As in I read in Grandslam book when Kearney spoke of Munster/Leinster divide out loud he earned huge respect from every player and showed signs of a leader.
Maybe Ferris in the pack too.
Oh yeah Heaslip a leader too.

I think heaslip would be a great captain he's enthusiastic and can lead by example

I still don't know weather i'd prefer to have Boss or reddan on the bentch

I always want the French to win. It's a wonderful country. I see them as our equals, rather than our inferiors.[/b]

Ginger my view of English Rugby has radically changed, "défoncer les rosbifs" had always been my number one priority at the time of the 5/6N and while I was still playing rugger. Nowadays it's no more as important as it used to be, it's my second priority only. :p

Last weekend I cheered for England, can you believe it? In the past the remembrance of the Welsh 70's side would have automatically brought my support to the Red team, but I think the many comments comming from Ireland and Wales made my mind to evolve. English Rugby supporters are much more humble and most of them are nice blokes.

I just threw up a little in my mouth. Man the f*** up, you pussies!

Ferris can show you how.

plus there's the added bonus that a fair chunk of that lot have a truck load of experience already under their belts.

Great news about Ferris by the way, even if he only gets 50 minutes I'd be more than happy with O'Brien being unleashed off the bench.

Am I missing Carr's name on that list too and in the pack Leinster have an excellent academy while Munster have 3/4 players capable of coming through ranks and been international quality.

But well what I really wana see Ireland do is build a squad for World Cup that is capable of AT LEAST a semi final.
Like I know Frane 07 was a joke but thing is when ROG was playing crap we had noone to come in as was case with many other positions and it was simply because 16/17 players were included with knowledge of having chance and as Quinny said before the rest were made feel like bag carriers and waterboys but Kidney has made it happen that like of McLaughlin now believe they have a chance and are hungry same goes for O'Brien etc and players in 1st 15 know there is competition breeding down there neck.
I personally think exclude BOD, POC and John Hayes no one else is safe.

Mate, what's happening here is that 2 very important countries are making friends under threat from a bunch of Celtic upstarts. We spent most of our history warring with France because we had the Celts firmly squashed with their faces in the dirt, and we needed someone else to pick a fight with - someone a bit more of a challenge.

Now suddenly the Irish are good at rugby (and thought they had a good economy), the Scots are whining about independence, and the Welsh have had a purple patch on the rugby field as well. We need to make friends with the Frenches so we can turn our attention West and push the Celts back where they came from.

On a serious note that's nothing to do with rugby, I do find it amazing quite how close the UK and France are in loads of tables of stats.

* UK population, 62m, 22nd in the world. France, 65m, 20th in the world.
* UK Empire, largest in history. French, 3rd largest (2nd out of colonial era).
* UK 6th largest GDP in world. France, 5th.
* London and Paris consistently named among the top 3 of the world's greatest and most important cities.

I could look up more, but we do have a hell of a lot in common with the French.

its ironic that the english think they are the great conqurers they are basically an amalgamation of many different people who have managed to take over celts , saxons angles and jutes , danes ,saxons again and the normans

...yeah the irish had their face in the mud but thats because we were too bloody busy fighting ourselves as usual the only time the might of the british empire came under a slightly unified attack they were forced to concede to a bunch of undersupplied poorly trained guerrila fighters .

back on topic .. i reckon the french will give ireland a fierce good game but if the french defend as tight as the did vs scotland they will be torn apart out wide ..thankfully being half french half irish i can never loose with this fixture lol

Gringo, let's be fair, not so many French people can speak English... If you travel a bit in northern Europe you'll be impressed. Regarding English people they've stopped learning foreign languages a decade ago.
