As seemingly the only Saffa that isn't swigging on Rassie's Kool-Aid, kindly indulge me for a moment.
2024 was a year full of new caps. They were being handed out to any and everyone that ever picked up a rugby ball. Everyone lauded the Boks for their bravery and the win rate achieved despite the massive experimenting that occurred.
2025 has rolled around and despite having 4 excellent games to build synergy, Rassie has picked 4 different teams for each game. Not slightly different teams, massively different ones. For example, in none of the first four games this year will Rassie have selected the same 9/10 combination to start. The backline is totally different in each game and the loose forwards have sat on so many different chairs that nobody knows who they are any longer.
It should be noted that two massively difficult games against the All Blacks away from home await the Boks. After this nothing match against Georgia, there are only two Ozzie match's left before the Boks play the All Blacks. And then they will face both Ireland and France in Europe after the RC.
It's a more difficult year than the Boks have had in ages and Rassie doesn't seem to know what his best team is.
In the final Italian game, he started Esterhuizen and Moodie together. That is a combination that will never see a single second of important game time together. The only way it could ever happen is if both DDA and Kriel are injured at the same time. So what is the point? What is the point of building synergy between to guys that will never start against the ABs, France, Ireland, England? Rassie has had both AE and Moodie in the squad for ages and the only "important" game they ever started together was in the win against the All Blacks in England prior to the World Cup in 2023.
I won't bore all of you with the almost endless list of selections which are similar to the above and mean almost nothing in terms of building cohesion.
However, I will mention that the most capped Bok of all time, Eben, was made to start against the Barbarians in the opening game this year, and is now being made to start against Georgia. Doesn't make sense, does it? Hanging one of your best players of all time, with more experience than any other Bok, out there in minnow matches. What will he learn? Is it a match fitness thing? Nobody knows.
There is a growing undercurrent of Saffa supporters that can't stand what we see happening. A couch that has drank so much of his own Kool-Aid that he believes squandering talent and failing to build cohesion among the first choice side is somehow a good thing.
The All Blacks will destroy the Boks and I can't wait to see it happen.
As a Bok supporter, I believe that a *****slap by the ABs might be exactly what Rassie needs.
