Euro 2020[1]

"The better side won"...

Pffffff. That argument is just silly. And most important, irrelevant. You don't win by being the better side. You win by scoring more goals than your opponent. Period. No buts, no ifs, no excuses, no excceptions.

That is precisely one of the reasons footie is as popular as it is: the better team doesn't always win (in fact they lose more than arguably any other big sport): gives smaller/weaker teams a shot, cinderella stories, etc, etc.

"deserve'.... ffs. Wtf does that even mean. Did Barcelona deserve to lose to Inter in 2010 (just to name one pretty one-sided match)? Who cares? They lost, and the history books will say Inter won, end of.
That's why we keep score, so we don't have to give a **** about who thinks who was better.

England won, take it. Congrats, enjoy.

Must have been strange for all those England fans cheering on the team's victory, even though they booed them for being a Marxist, BLM supporting team

Crazy the amount of hate England are generating on various social media platforms.

Reddit is going crazy
I don't know how many people know it's coming home is largely done ironically on the internet at least

Natural consequence of booing another countries anthem tbh. If they did that during Amhran na Bhfiann I'd headbutt Mike Haley

Yeah was looking at twitter last night claims of rigged tournament (forgetting FIFA and to a lesser extent UEFA hate us). Loads of people need to chill.

They also need to look at the lyrics of the song as to why it resonates.

Unfortunately, it's just pure petty jealousy. These are the same peeps who will absolutely revel if England lose on Sunday.

The English soccer team are despised because of their fans. Booing anthems when at home, trashing cities and stadiums and causing violence when abroad. Brexit won't have helped currently and the media in general don't, although I don't think English media is that bad at all, Spanish and Italian media sound far worse.

Twitter will have the worst views expressed poorly sure but there's no reason to like England football if you're not from there. The only time I could ever imagine wanting them to win is against Northern Ireland, at least England play our anthem, and racist teams like Hungary.

Trashing cities, stadiums and violence abroad is almost stuff like from 10+years ago now though. Mainly late 90's early 2000's.

Although I agree the fans are **** there's plenty of reasons I don't have a love for football and very much hitch my cart up during international tournaments.

Although I have to say not many other nations fans are that great either.

Is it? Really?
They are the only team I could think so that could give us a run for our money in terms of how much people hate us. Maybe Chile too, but they've got little history and trophies, so for the lack of a better word, kinda irrelevant.

And I'm sure fans play a role, but would you really say English fans are more loud/dangerous/obnoxious/arrogant/destructive than the rest? I certainly wouldn't. The difference lies elsewhere.

Btw, you wanna see arrogance watch Arg vs Col penalty shoot out from earlier this week.

I did enjoy the headline on one Glasgow based newspaper "They think it's fall over". Sterling might have to do it again on Sunday because the Italians are partial to rolling around on the grass when it comes to winning fouls and time wasting.

It happened in 2016 and 2019, I'd presume it didn't in 2018 because Russia was too intimidating and had been strongly warned not to allow it themselves. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.th...raise-fears-of-more-clashes-with-england-fans

The FA and police are definitely doing a good job cutting it out but it's still there. Equally, things happening a long time ago doesn't really mean that teams will be liked all of a sudden. Like there's 210 countries in FIFA that haven't had neo Nazis trash Lansdowne road in their histories, I'm not going to be too fond of the one that have even if it was 25 years ago. I'd guess the people of Marseille and Porto (who weren't happy that fans were allowed over for the CL final) feel the same.

The current team is fairly likeable, Rashford leading the way there but knowing what sort of person a win on Sunday would make happy (no one on this forum, if you win I'll congratulate and take nothing away from the tournament) will really annoy me, it'll be one of the worst sporting results I could think of.

I don't really care that much if England win the football. I'd prefer it if they didn't, obviously, but I don't really care. Nothing like the rugby. The thought of England beating SA in the final made me physically sick.

It was a fine performance by Sterling, average score of 9.2 from the judges, a near perfect dive.

Which reminds me:

I'd probably feel the same if Wales ever reach the final of a major sporting competition,
Luckily it's not something I ever have to worry about
