EOYT: Ireland vs Argentina, 24/11/2012

Henderson in the second-row with Ryan? Heard talk O'Brien might be fit so POM, O'Brien and Heaslip?

Terrible idea. For 3 reasons.

1. O'Brien is nowhere near sharp.
2. POM is not that good. Irrespective of how much the propaganda machine may say otherwise.
3. You are dropping your (current) best 2nd row out.

Mike McCarthy and one of Dan Tuohy/Donnaha Ryan in the second row with the back row of Henderson, Henry, Heaslip.

This is the team I think is likely to be announced tomorrow. I've included Gilroy based on Gerry Thornley's article this morning. He's usually pretty familiar with what's going on in the camp.

1. Healy
2. Strauss
3. Ross
4. McCarthy
5. Ryan
6. O'Mahony (I really wish they'd give Henderson a shot here, but I don't think it's likely)
7. Henry
8. Heaslip
9. Conor Murray
10. Sexton
11. Gilroy
12. Darcy
13. Earls
14. Bowe
15. Zebo

If that's the team the biggest weaknesses are at scrum-half and the centres. We really need to sort out a decent midfield so we're not completely screwed when O'Driscoll finally goes.
I think that back three would be exciting to watch, there should be some tries in them at least.

phelan has sent back to his clubs Juan Figallo, Lucas Gonzále Amorosino and Horacio Agulla, the first one anticipating a likely ban, and the two others due to injury (though they're likely not to miss any club games)

Accordig to the Argentine press, the Pumas side would be:
1. Ayerza
2. Guiñazú
3. Bustos
4. Carizza
5. Farías Cabello
6. Fernández Lobbe
7. Leguizamón
8. Senatore
9. Landajo
10. Sánchez
11. Imhoff
12. Fernández
13. Bosch
14. Camacho
15. Hernández.

Phelan seems confident that Juan Martín Hernández will be fit for the game, in which case he will take the 15 jersey. If he fails to recover, the options are Tuculet and Bosch (this latter option would mean Tiesi coming back in the side at 13).

15 - Simon Zebo (Cork Constitution/Munster/2)
14 - Tommy Bowe (Belfast Harlequins/Ulster/50)
13 - Keith Earls (Young Munster/Munster/33)
12 - Gordon D'Arcy (Lansdowne/Leinster/70)
11 - Craig Gilroy (Dungannon/Ulster)*
10 - Jonathan Sexton (St.Mary's College/Leinster/33)
9 - Conor Murray (Garryowen/Munster/13)
1 - Cian Healy (Clontarf/Leinster/34)
2 - Richardt Strauss (Old Wesley/Leinster/1)
3 - Mike Ross (Clontarf/Leinster/23)
4 - Donnacha Ryan (Shannon/Munster/22)
5 - Mike McCarthy (Buccaneers/Connacht/5)
6 - Peter O'Mahony (Cork Constitution/Munster/8)
7 - Chris Henry (Malone/Ulster/3)
8 - Jamie Heaslip (Naas/Leinster/51) Captain

Replacements:
16 - Sean Cronin (St. Mary's College/Leinster/22)
17 - David Kilcoyne (UL Bohemians/Munster/1)
18 - Michael Bent (Leinster/1)
19 - Donncha O'Callaghan (Cork Constitution/Munster/89)
20 - Iain Henderson (Queens University/Ulster/1)
21 - Eoin Reddan (Lansdowne/Leinster/46)
22 - Ronan O'Gara (Cork Constitution/Munster/125)

Its a great opportunity for Argentina to show how good they are. Ireland are playing poorly so they're definitely there for the taking.

Earls - I saw him miss 2 tackles against SA, and he wasnt much better anywhere else - awful in attack
Cave - Good form for Ulster, played well against Fiji, he's on form right now.
D'arcy - Without BOD he's crap to be brutally honest, he missed atleast 4 tackles last game, he can hardly keep hold of the ball when he gets it either
McFadden - 2 tries last game? He's got decent handling skills - not the best in defense but still doesn't miss as much tackles.

So he goes with D'arcy and Earls in the centre, am I missing something?

What is worse is he hasn't released the likes of Cave, Jackson, Marshall for Ulster this weekend - so what are they meant to be doing? Water boy?

Bloody hell - I hope others from different nations see we could be a half decent team without this spastic as a coach.

The v-bookie odds for Argentina are too good to resist at the moment. Argentina by 10

kidney out
ross was roasted against fiji so bent should have started
murray is way to slow with really bad form this season. reddan should start which p.marshall given good game time to show what he can done.
darcy is becoming a joke at this stage. earls not a centre. so cave and l marshall should have started.
zebo is not a full back. aimless kicking along with suspect defence (although seemed good under high ball). he will be found out. would go with earls but could be equally as bad.

i think ireland will lose on saturday will go on to have a pour six nations and kidney/foley will get new contracts in the spring. with 2/3 of the time undroppable in kidneys eyes they won't improve. while the over looked players will become disinterested.

biggest joke is on the bench rog and kilcoyne. i hope healy doesn't get injured and rog does in the warm up.

Fantastic post/name combo.

Well I do... wouldn't go further than half-decent though ;)

I don't mind it when coaches get selections wrong but I do when a coach like Kidney does on a consistent basis.

Jackson>Rog
Cave>Earls
Reddan>Murray

4 Ulster payers in the 23. Seriously? The form province has the least represented players (apart from Connacht obviously)? & Munster have 8? Says it all really..

darcy doesn't deserve his place either. go on say it you will feel better.

D'Arcy is not up to international standard either but Kidney has shot himself in the foot by not trying McFadden there.

McFadden isn't an international center. Luke Marshall showed last week that he has more potential than D'Arcy and you could argue he is a better player at present.

What evidence do you have of this? He has played very few matches there and even if he isn't neither are D'Arcy or Earls.

McFadden hasn't been tried at first centre internationally, which i believe is his best position.

McFadden has been around the Ireland set up for awhile and he hasn't set the world on fire. L. Marshal showed skills that are beyond darcy and McFadden. He deserves a chance on current form. If marshals form drops or McFadden/darcy rises then they should get the nod. That's how international teams are picked. Kidney has another method!

Ireland have such competitive teams with great new talent always being developed. It is just sad to see how the International team does not probably bring them into the fold or give them anytime. They only wait until the old guard are done and dusted, then throw in a new guy and wonder why he is not playing great right away.

As a Fan of Ireland (after Scotland & Canada) it is hard to watch this happen year after year. I put my money on the Pumas... mind on my money, not heart.

No it's not. Everyone seems to think teams should be only picked on form that's not the case. Yeah it should have a hand in it and a much larger one than Kidney has let it but experience and combinations are also vital. Even New Zealand don't simply pick the form players. I like Luke Marshall and think he'll be having a fantastic fight in the future for the 12 jersey with Hanrahan but he hasn't even started a H Cup game yet.

Also McFadden hasn't played a single international game at 12 so it's a bit unfair to judge him either way.
