EOYT: Ireland vs Argentina, 24/11/2012

12 is a real point of debate. Darcy has the experience but is still out of form at an international level, McFadden deserves a shot and is on good form but hasn't played inside centre for Ireland and Marshal showed great potential last week but is still very inexperienced.

Darcy has a lot of experience and most of it is as a shite player (at international level anyway).

McFadden or Marshall for me. And Marshall has form at centre at the moment. If he's good enough he's experienced enough.

I don't know what Earls has done to suggest that he is in better form than Bowe....

I'm on the fence with Henderson. I think he has a great future but not sure if I would drop Henry or POM for him just yet. I really wish McFadden had some game time at inside centre...

Me and you both on Babyface. The thing here is he seemed to be blowing out of his arse after about 50/60 minutes against Fiji, he's new to the pro game and I'm not sure he's really with the pace yet.

If he can go the pace, I'd send him straight in at 6. No offence to O'Mahoney, but they're in different planets in terms of physicality. I'm not sure POM could even see Henderson's planet with a telescope. And POM shouldn't go across to 7, as he's not one. In fact, he's not much of anything at the moment - he could be a 7, he could be an 8, but he's got to choose and work on one.

As for McFadden - I see a great many accusations of tunnel vision about him these days, don't watch him enough at centre to know if its true. But that's certainly not a good trait as a 12.

Me, I'd pick Marshall at 12 on very simple grounds that he's the most likely to keep the ball alive and he's the biggest.

edit: It certainly shouldn't be D'Arcy. You'd be better off playing Cronin there.

Ehhh I'd rather have McFadden starting at 12, then maybe 2nd half shift him to the wing and bring on Marshall?

and Amiga, we aren't exactly spoilt for choice here, might aswell bring up all the possible scenarios - and that one (Earls 12) is very likely when you remember it's Kidney we're talking about..

McFadden at 12, Cave at 13. Now, everyone shut up and marvel at the mediocracy of our midfield. What I'd give for a 2007 Bod and Dorce. Or just Bod now.

Ah now lets not hype the kid up too much! POM is a fantastic player too and pound for pound he is very powerful - incase you think hes lacking physicality.

Hyping Henderson is one of my favourite activities, largely because it's very difficult. He's just a ridiculous athlete, I've heard plenty of people who've seen both say he's better than Ferris at the same age, and he's already got a good brain to go with it.

That said - I simply don't rate POM that highly. I would disagree with your statement on his power; even if you were correct, the simple truth is that all blindsides are pound for pound very powerful, and compared to most international blindsides he's missing a few. He looks strong enough going forwards, he makes ground well, but his tackling is suspect. And I'm not the only one to think that.

POM is a very good player. There's no doubt about it. But, as international blindsides go, he's very low on the physicality and power stakes, while Henderson is on the same scale as Ferris.

Haha we (Arg) lost against France and climbed to 6th IRB ranking position... damn business

Doesn't mean he is capable of doing it well!

Example: Conor Murray gets picked at scrum-half every week...

 Well played.

Although I am told it worked well in the Churchill Cup

If I'm honest, it's an experiment I'd like to see, but can understand how people who care more about the result mightn't be so keen on it...

Off topic slightly, but do you guys think with the Irish international players on the welfare program (or whatever it's called) should be treated differently depending on position.

Seems a bit strange to me that the Forwards who generally go through more physically in a match are held back for the same time as the backs who could probably benefit from a bit extra time to get patterns and whatnot back in their head?

Just a thought.

To be honest with you the current IRFU player welfare scheme on a whole is pretty ineffective. But yes it should be based on not just the position but the individual player. I think the provinces are the best position to that.

Henderson in the second-row with Ryan? Heard talk O'Brien might be fit so POM, O'Brien and Heaslip?

Seriously hoping O'Brien is fit. I think he should go 6, Heaslip at 8 and Henry at 7. Henry is a better 7 than POM - which is exactly what we need.

P.s How is Ryan in the scrum?

Clearly we should play SO'B who's just returned to training and was out for what 3 months? Leave him be.

Anyway don't think it's been mentioned but Ruddock was called up for Muldoon.

I don't understand why Ruddock was brought up. Will he be used against the Argies? No

He's only just come back from injury, he needs to reaffirm himself at Leinster before even thinking about international rugby. The same can be said about SOB.
